Unemployed NBA Players Attempt to Help Obama Avoid Similar Fate

obama-basketball.jpg
While all NBA games are effectively cancelled until at least mid-December, a lucky few will be able to watch some top ballers in action--if they're willing to donate to the Obama Victory Fund. The first annual "Obama Classic" will feature current NBA stars, retired players, and even a few women's basketball legends on December 12th at a court in D.C. to be named later. Meanwhile, NBA team owners and the Republican Congress are planning to steal all of Obama's flubber before the game.

The list of participating players, via Barack Obama's website, is as follows:

Ray Allen, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Vince Carter, Tyson Chandler, Jamal Crawford, Kevin Durant, Baron Davis, Patrick Ewing, Derek Fisher, Rudy Gay, Blake Griffin, Tyler Hansbrough, Dwight Howard, Juwan Howard, Antawn Jamison, Dahntay Jones, Brandon Knight, Kevin Love, Jamal Mashburn, Cheryl Miller, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo, Chris Paul, Quentin Richardson, Doc Rivers, Steve Smith, Jerry Stackhouse, Amare Stoudemire, Tina Thompson, John Wall, and Russell Westbrook.

If you are wondering how competitive this "classic" will be, two names immediately stand out: Patrick Ewing and Dikembe Mutombo. Both are legendary players, but both are hobbled by knee injuries that provide them with the mobility of dining room tables. Even a special effects-heavy Snickers ad with Ewing couldn't hide this fact:

Seat prices range between $100 for general admission to $5,000 for courtside. Politico reports "the Obama Victory Fund can collect up to $35,800 from a single donor, with the first $5,000 going to the campaign and the remainder going to the Democratic National Committee."

No information yet on whether or not President Obama will suit up. If so, we advise him to back off John Wall--he's got no jumper.

Another sure fire way to gather support from the independents. Will there be a special price or free tickets for the occupy (I don’t like to work?) crowd. $5K might be a little high for them. What could someone do with $5K, maybe eat or sleep in a bed? Obama has not given them the lesson needed. Work hard, don't blame others and work on making better decisions in life. If my kids had spent $130K for a degree in African Art or spend a year looking at the mating habits of cows instead of getting a degree with value, shame on them.

Could be HBO (Help Barrack Obama) will get the video rights and Bryant Gumbel will be there to "press the flesh" with the po' "boys" of the NBA. For context, see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Maybe Barrack can drop off their unemployment checks when he picks up the campaign contributions; that's how it works between the Democrats and unions, nowadays, doesn't it?
