Which Was the Worse Gaffe: Herman Cain's "Princess Nancy" or Rick Perry's Dementia?

These Republican debates are getting more bizarre every week, and last night, we were treated to not one but two epic moments. Herman Cain, the one time Godfather's Pizza CEO and implausible front runner in primary poling for the GOP nomination, has been on the ropes the past couple of weeks for, as Gloria Allred crudely put it, offering "his idea of a stimulus package" to female colleagues.

With woman after woman coming forward to charge him with sexual harassment, calling the previous Speaker of the House "Princess Nancy" may have not been Cain's best phrasing to show he has respect for professional women.

But perhaps an even more embarrassing moment came when Rick Perry, sober this time but apparently suffering from extreme dementia, couldn't remember the third department of the federal government he had promised to gut. (For his sake, hopefully it's not Health and Human Services, which funds the very "brain science" Newt Gingrich was flogging as the answer to lowering health care costs.)
Mitt Romney, who's been running for president the better part of the past decade, just let the buffoonery speak for itself around him.

The real star of the debate, though, was Jon Huntsman. He showed a human compassion in discussing the economy all the other nominees were sorely lacking, displayed a clear and articulate command of the facts and issues, and showed off a head of presidential hair that, lacking the greasy veneer, is even better than Romney's. But, given that he supports domestic partnerships, believes in global warming, and seems something of a compassionate sort, he hasn't got a shot among this bunch.

Wow.  Suprising comments here.  When did Voice readers get so bitter and conservative? In any case, regardless of whether you agree with his policies (999= lower taxes for the rich, higher taxes for poor and mid class--who really supports that??!!), Cain is obviously a shoot-from-the-hip blowhard.  Not the person to lead the most powerful nation in the world.

Pelosi should file sexual harassment charges. Anonymously.

Yeah -- none of the charges is anonymous.  Cain knows the name of every woman who has accused him.  *WE* don't know, but Cain does.  And by trying to get the NRA not to release the records, he's keeping at least two of the names an intentional secret from the U.S. public.  The one remaining woman under a gag order can't come forward and tell us -- her "anonymity" is forced upon her by Cain's settlement agreement.

The title goes to Perry.

It would be fitting to have nominate a decent, respectful and qualified candidate representative of the conservative approach to governing from the Republican party.  Yet, they continue to bring forth a display of wrong-thinking, ill-manner misfits that no one has noted as accomplished on public record.

"Princess Nancy" was not a gaffe, you morons. Pelosi is an ignorant moron. Thats what Cain SHOULD have said. As far as I am concerned, he was being nice.

One ofthe biggest problems facing the United States is the twin issue of mountingdebt accrual and deficit spending, an issue that is only being dealt withsuperficially by the GOP candidates.  The fact that corporations aresimply not paying their fair share is a large part of the issue.  Sincethe Great Recession, corporate tax revenue as a percentage of Washington'stotal revenue has fallen from a high of 25 percent in 2006 to 14 percent in2011 as shown here:

Untilthe tax playing field is leveled and the GOP cuts its ties with CorporateAmerica, it will be increasingly difficult for Washington to balance its books.

I agree with your Blog and I will be back to check it more in the future so please keep up your work. And it does a pretty decent job of presenting the material.

There is no term too vile to use in referring to Nancy Pelosi.  She has used the vilest terms to refer to Republicans besides making what is probably the stupidest statement a politician has ever made: "You have to pass the bill to see what's in it."  She has said that Republicans want women to die.  She is a vile, despicable human.  Herman was on national TV and of course couldn't have called her what she really is.

Ankhorite

She accurately reported the Tea Party as an astroturf movement taken over by billionaire funders.  Cain, OTOH, reached for a gender-based insult with no basis in fact.

And given a choice between protecting female life v. protecting fetal life, a Republican on the campaign trail will pick the fetus every time.
