The off duty cop was having a conversation when he heard yells for police assistance and confronted Sanford.

During the tussle, the off-duty cop's gun went off, and Sanford was struck in the lower back, cops said.
Sanford was taken to Harlem Hospital and is in stable condition. He was charged with forcible touching, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
