Gwyneth Paltrow Launches 'GOOP City' App, Reviews St. Marks Bookshop

Gwyneth Paltrow, ever the entrepreneur, has launched an iPhone app called "GOOP City" (after her uber-precious GOOP newsletter). It's Paltrow's guide to New York City, and according to Gawker video editor Matt Cherette, it is "worth every penny." It's also presumably kind of spacy and just for rich people, like Gwyn herself.

On GOOP, Paltrow writes:

I have always dreamed of finding a city guide that would be just right for me, like a trusted friend whose opinion you knew you could count on. After years of being steered in the wrong direction by bribed concierges, biased opinions and just plain bad suggestions, I decided to create what I had been missing: The goop City Guide! We begin with New York City and you can expect many more over the coming months. This app will be your resource for the tried and tested of the best and coolest of Manhattan (and Brooklyn, and a bit of Queens, the Bronx and New Jersey). After a lot of careful curation and hard work, our first ever app (that will update from time to time with the freshest, most cutting-edge info) is ready for purchase on the App Store!

"A bit of Queens, the Bronx and New Jersey" -- yeah, right.

We don't have an iPhone and can't access the app, but luckily Cherette has tweeted a number of gems from it. For example, Gwyneth on the St. Marks Bookshop: "St. Marks Bookshop is in NYU territory and so it's no surprise it stocks a bevvy [sic] of scholarly titles in Cultural Theory."

Gwyneth on Cafe Habana: "Very quiet but sometimes very noisy."

On taxis: "You can pretty much find a taxi at any time. All you have to do is walk to the corner and stick your arm out to flag one down."

Insightful and in touch as always. The app is available now and costs $3.99, which sounds like kind of a lot for wisdom like "You can pretty much find a taxi at any time," truth be told.
