Rick Perry's Anti-Gay Ad Features Music by Gay Composer Aaron Copland [UPDATE]

• I've got five cars - 3 female and 2 male - deal with it. ;-) 

• I think it's been pretty clearly established that there is a right of equal protection afforded by the 14th. Equal protection being equated to equal rights. I am not a lawyer type-guy.

•  The Right which is protected is not a Right to Equality.  It helps if you do not quote only part of the section. "nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." The rights of which we may be deprived without due process are life, liberty and property. Then the amendment makes clear that the laws which are enacted to give life to these rights may not be denied without equal protection of the laws, which again refers to due process.  Substantive rights are not the same thing as Procedure.  If you take the time to understand the difference between Substance and Procedure, you will see why Equality is not a substantive right, but instead "equal protection" refers to Procedure which protects the Rights.  Equality is still not a substantive right; life, liberty, and property are Rights.

• "Equality is not a constitutional right" eh, I don't know, the 14th looks pretty good to me: "no state shall ... deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." 

• "In this attitude they are very self defeating as all they do is lower themselves to the same intolerance they are claiming is coming from the ones they accuse of 'homophobic verbal and physical attacks'"    It seems to me that anyone who is, for example, pro-war is lowering themselves to the same intolerance they claim their so-called enemies have for them. We create our enemies. Intolerance breeds intolerance. Calling the homosexual community repugnant reflects on you.

• As a real working cowboy, I get really tired of the "Broke Back" comments. I have nothing against gay men, but I really get tired of being called gay when I'm not, just because I'm a cowboy. The jacket is a common western work jacket and has nothing to do with being gay, so do everyone a favor and keep the criticism to the actual point and stop making stupid insinuations based on baseless associations. He is very conservative Christian and closed minded, but that has nothing to do with his western heritage.

Obama even killed the Boeing plant in South Carolina in favor of unions/right to work so that he'd get union donations for his campaign! (don't get me started on Biden's 2011 "yes! more rapes and murders!" comments, in regards to a $35 Billion bill that $8B goes to LE and the rest to teachers unions so they can give $1B to Obama this year for his campaign). Obama is just a bully and a Dictator.  First down-grade of our credit rating in the History of our nation. Obama Care which is a direct violation of our Contitutional rights.. Solyndra, Rev Wright..  Wake up!   Otherwise eventually it will be the communist chinese or some Pakistani middle-easterners telling you how offensive your gayness is.. your choice.  I could personally care less, and hav lived in Key West, FL for almost a decade, which has the highest ratio of gay to straight citizens, even over San Francisco, CA! The contributions of the gay community are obvious to me in their creativity and advancement of the arts.. were any of kids gay I'd love them the same amount not matter what.... but WHAT DOES THAT HAV TO DO WITH GOV'T??  Lets get back to Basics on why we hav a military, what gov't is designed for, and how to get back to the strength America has always shown as a nation.  We can tolerate these differences only if we acknowledge we will not agree on every issue...but don't let sensationism like this divide us for that is how we fail.  Don't believe everything pumped at you via an INET site or Cathorade Tube. Everything these candidates say is scrutinized under a microscope..look at the facts and statistics of the important ISSUES and don't sweat the minutia.    We are healthier and living longer than anytime in our known history. Our country has more religious tolerance than any other.  America doesn't hav all that gold in Ft. Knox representing dollars anymore, and we are a faith-based (credit) system. Right now confidence is down because everyone is scared to death, so they are not spending and that contributes to our economy grinding to a halt when it should run like a well-oiled machine.  But the biggest thing is military (you know thats why we are not 50 separate little countries, and we are 50 United States.. to hav a Combined military) everything else is gravy.. your programs, schools, heck even our roads...so lets get back to having job security, recovering from the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac (Barney Frank should be in jail) debaucle, and focus on the KEY issues of NOT letting the middle-east (don't get me started, thousands of years of civil unrest, yet it's all the fault of our little 200 yr old country) get a stronghold, and rebuilding our manufacturing base/JOBS. Oh, and energy development too.. that will help.   I am pressed for time here and this is not as fluent as I would like I am sure...  I hope you read this in the spirit of which it was intended.. we are a smart people, but lets not go from freedom right back into bondage...    Hey, it's my .02, but thats whats so great about this country, isn't it?        ~MOMMY    .

• Most striking for me, in both the original (wrong) story and the ensuing commentary, is that there is an awful lot of hysterical angst in the 'Progressive Movement'.  Which seems out of keeping with the arrogant certainty to being on the 'right side of history'. Whine on :)

• Please take the time to learn history.  The Constitution refers to the Declaration of Independence when the Preamble says that one of the purposes of the Constitution is to Secure the Blessings of Liberty.   Equality is not a constitutional right, nor is equality one of the inalienable rights set forth in the Declaration, which enumerates only three inalienable rights: (1) Life, (2) liberty and (3) the pursuit of happiness. Because there is no inalienable or constitutional right to Equality, Gays are off on a wild goose chase.  The constitution forbids the government from singling out Individuals and placing them in a "group" like Gays, Jews, Blacks, Whites, Christians, etc and then passing laws that discrimination against the Individual based on his/her group identification.  Equality plays no role in Gay liberties, but sad to say, most Gays are as ignorant on this legal point as right wing Christians.  They should pay attention to Lawrence vs. Texas, 539 U.S. 558 (2003) which makes crystal clear that Liberty (freedom) is the sole basis for "Gay Rights."

• I would never vote for someone who is running on a religious platform - I agree with separation of church and state and would go so far to say that religion should be no more than a hobby, or something we read about in history books. That being said, there doesn't actually seem to be any indication in this ad that Rick Perry hates gays. He's making an untactful, and ineffectual, inverse correlation between being openly gay and being openly christian, as if to say, "If gays can be open, why can't christians?" You don't have to like the guy, and maybe he does hate gays, but - it should be understood that what he says doesn't necessarily by itself mean that he hates gays. Try and analyze what he ACTUALLY says; My scientist training leads me to this conclusion.

I'l try to keep my comments simple for you, that way you can pick up what I'm laying down better. 1.)  It's okay to be gay, its also okay to feel otherwise, its not okay to harm someone because of this or give unfair treatment.  this is simple and goes for both parties, we are a minority of people and often problems with exceptance cause one party or the other rectify some kind of stance often in violence and or legal matters if not taken care of. 2.)  I am 100% certain that you may have some credible reason to portray gays in such bad lighting, but what you are not saying is that those traits are not only ours but shared by the entire world population.  They are no more common in our community than yours and THAT is what draws the invisible line that pisses people off. 3.)  "Spoiler alert"  hey guess what being gay for most gays is not based on sex... shocker i know.  I am not implying we don't screw, what i am implying is that its about love for some people "gay or straight" and sex for others "gay or straight".  When as a gay person i demand any right... such as getting married then its because its fundamental and fair.  no i don't want you to feel sorry for me i just want freedom and fair treatment, its simple. 4.)  I am not forcing my gay views on you or anyone, if you knew me personally you would never have even known it about me, this is because I contribute to society and I fit in however i can, i have the same feelings as i go about my day as you do and eat drink S**T and sleep the same life.  in the end i am on your team and you don't even know however if you want to be the man that draws the line and says you are not like me, i will happily dance all over it and pretend it was never drawn.  I know the truth about who i am and what i stand for, i have core value and i am a strong man.  those are the things i look for in other people. 5.)  we don't look at people as gay or straight, oddly enough we just see people.  in the end thats something i can put in the bank and honor it for what its truly worth because thats the core or equality.  we are labeled gay in a straight society that we do not in return label as straight, we are seen as "QUEER" and although we laugh it off but in reality this is demeaning.  we will stand and fight for what is right. end of line

• I think that the fundamental flaw in your thinking is that you view homosexuality as a "choice".  You need to come into the 21st century and recognize the wealth of research indicating that sexual preference is no more a "choice" than is skin color.  You have no more inherent right to find homosexuality "repugnant" than you do to find black or brown or yellow skin "repugnant".  Not that it matters, but I am a 62-year old straight man and father married for over 41 years.  I wish that everyone could enjoy the blessings of marriage.

But straight people engage in sexual activities that have no connection with reproduction because they enjoy it. However, may I correctly assume that since you mentioned "the male/female human anatomy and the need of procreation", that you are also intolerant of oral, anal and manual sex and sex between any two people who cannot procreate (the infertile, the post-menopausal) and all types of birth control? Of course, that all raises the question of exactly why you feel that it's your right to have an opinion on anybody else's sex life except your own and your partner's...frankly, I find the idea that a total stranger is even considering my sex life to be the most repugnant concept I've come across in some time.

• My experience of the homosexual community is quite a negative one. From what I have seen they do consider themselves a 'protected species' and all they have to do is make an accusation of homophobia and that is a 'get out of jail' free card.  It seems that they fail to look at themselves from any other perspective then their own, in that, rightly or wrongly they can not see how anyone can think two men or two woman engaging in sexual relations with each other is 'queer, peculiar, strange, not normal' which given the male/female human anatomy and the need of procreation, this view is understandable.  However, in my experience the homosexual community is totally unwilling to be see this point and are now so militantly aggressive that no one can disagree with them. In this attitude they are very self defeating as all they do is lower themselves to the same intolerance they are claiming is coming from the ones they accuse of 'homophobic verbal and physical attacks' This only makes me ask the question of the homosexual community where is the tolerance you demand, for people who disagree with your lifestyle, you keep demanding your 'rights of sexual preference' what about the 'rights' of those who disagree with your choice of sexual preference?  There is also the issue of individuals from the homosexual community who make very HETRO-phobic comments which once again is very self defeating as it only generates even more dislike of those with-in the homosexual community. I would like to encourage those of the homosexual community, who are so quick to make accusations of 'homophobia' to be willing to look at your lifestyle from the other side and see how repugnant they may find it and to these individuals be willing to extend the same tolerance to them as you are demanding from them.
