SMERSH, Scientology Breakthroughs, and a Funeral: Sailing on the Apollo, Dec 4 - 10

On November 18, we started a new feature here on Fridays: the Voice has obtained hundreds of copies of L. Ron Hubbard's previously unpublished "Orders of the Day," which he gave to crew members as he sailed the Mediterranean. Our documents cover the period from 1968 to 1971, and this time we're looking at what was happening the week of December 4 through 10 during those years.

After the jump, LRH names the evil entity that is trying to sabotage Scientology...

December 8: We found quite a few nice items to excerpt this week, and right off the bat we get a doozy...

We are continuing to make progress against the enemy who has shot at us and the planet for 18 years.

The code name he now has is "SMERSH" (from 007 fame) and his branch offices are "Black Hats."

He is oddly enough on both sides of existing political parties except in SA where he is mainly UP.

This was a hidden government. It aspired to world domination! If you can imagine a psychiatrist in such a role. He meant to eradicate all boundaries and constitutions and put himself in beside each general and public figure and "treat" them each week. Wonder what it would be like to be governed by shock cases.

Red as paint, he was really having a ball.

We were in his road. Because we were fully effective. We undid his implants. A real psychotherapy had come along. This was not part of his plans. He shot at Scn to discredit it. Because it was effective.

It would be a public service just to get them off the world's back.

Recently a check showed that we had never seen or heard of an "insane" person who had not been in their hands. And the question arises, is there any insanity at all? That is not manufactured by them?

One's first impulse on reading their literature (which is all about world conquest and not about cases as you'd think) is to laugh. Then one realizes they've really got people thinking that way.

So it is quite obvious that western governments are fantastically weak and very unaware. They cannot or will not protect their people or their institutions.

Thus, only one course is left open. To get rid of SMERSH and their thousands of kills weekly.

Oddly enough, we're doing just that.

The one BIG mistake they made was to attack Scientologists. Which they did from hiding for 18 long years.

It set us back, kept our field upset, our staffs enturbulated. But it also made us get tough and grow strong.

SMERSH was the hidden government. Long may it fail.

From the same dispatch...

The Commodore's session was disturbed shortly after noon today by banging noises on B deck. Occupants of cabins 134-138 (directly below his cabin) and any persons using B deck, port side, passage way should not have to be reminded that the Commodore researches daily, and anyone who disturbs this goes overboard.

December 9: A day after his SMERSH declaration, LRH points to evidence that someone was listening...

The Wog News item of 50 members of a ring being rounded up in Spain who intended to assasinate several leading Spanish Politicians (8 Dec 68 OOD) just could be the result of our comm and warning to the Spanish government re SMERSH.

They evidently deal in political assassination as every major assassin in the last several years saw one of their members just before the assassination and was defended afterwards by one.

From the same dispatch, some unequivocal words about prices...

In answer to Income Clerk's query, the following points apply with No exceptions:

1. Persons leaving SEA ORG get billed for all their courses they may have incurred as FULL price.

2. A Course whether finished or just started is always charged for at full price.

3. Reviews are paid for by the hour and at full price -- includes the leaving Review.

4. If the person has worked at an Advanced Org prior to coming to Sea Org any courses they may have incurred whilst there are also billed for at full price.

We are not in the business of free services and arrangements must be made prior to the person leaving regarding meeting weekly payments for the debt he has incurred with the Sea Org.

December 4: Anyone know where Lynn Moore is today?

Congratulations to Lynn Moore, she's CLEAR!

December 7

I have just made a fantastic tech breakthrough.

For some days I have been spending hours each day on a Personality Change Research Project. I find it is not Personality but anti-social behavior that neither the person nor anyone else likes that is the change point.

And I did it. I've got it.

All cases benefit as it speeds exteriorization. It makes OT far more OT faster. Also it resolves the slow case gain case, the no case gain case, also the psychopathic personality and the criminal. The violent and depressed, the well and the sane area all covered now by one process series where the person will sit still.

The Dianetic folder of a pc is used and what's already in it is reworked. It gives a schedule somewhat like this (not finalized):

1. 2 way comm and mimicry
2. TRs (case gain from)
3. Scn singles
4. Dianetic triples
5. Scn triples
7. Power
8. R6EW
9. Clear
10. OT Grades

6 and 11 are the added actions but they can be run almost anywhere that the pc is made auditable.

The substancde of it is to attain at 10 the Really You, one's Basic Personality and full OT Power.

But as a single breakthrough it is ver important as it opens the door not only to fast gains but also rids the universe of oppression.

There WAS a common denominator to all cases good and bad.

SO SAVE THOSE DIANETIC RECORDS AND WORKSHEETS. They are reused in this action and zoom!

Just continue as always on your road up. Nothing is changed. Something has been added that needs all the rest of what we can do.

A Class VI is required to audit it.

You wanted to Clear the planet and end off SPs on the track. Well, boy, we've really got it!

It's been a valuable several days. Thank you for keeping things cool and going so I could work.

From the same dispatch...

The crew is asked to give contributions to the Chaplain Gilbert Black for a Headstone for Corrie's body's grave.

I will pay the balance of the cost.

The Ship's Rep is to see to getting one made.

At the funeral the services went beautifully smooth and serene. The casket lead-lined, was a fine piece of wood carving and the cemetery is a quiet scene of magnolia and jacaranda trees.

A headstone is needed. I will give the Ship's Rep the inscription. I thought the crew would like to contribute something in memory of their shipmate.

December 8

The law banning Scn in Western Australia has been thrown out by the high court of WA. We lost in a lower court but won on the higher court. The law is declared nul and void.

This is a big win that counts heavily in other areas. We're on the road back thanks to MSH and the Gdn Office WW and ANZO and A/G Perth.

December 8

I am very happy with recent technical and administrative advances and very optimistic concerning the potentiality of total success on this planet. Suddenly it is within practical reach.

December 10

...We are unstalling cases at a fabulous rate.

The planetary campaign is lined up on this. Apparently, as people bought it, the psychologists judge on behavior that its all a jungle and that all men are animals.

So evidently there's a grade of "animal" according to the very best professors.

Looking it over, modern "education" and all, we then have the job of moving people up on this course of action with which there would be wide agreement due to teachings in universities.

Animal + Technique Zed = Human Being + Dianetics to Grade IV = Homo Novis + Power, R6EW and CC = Clear + OT grades to OT VII = Operating Thetan + what research I'm now doing equals ( ).

So its a possibly acceptable scale of

( )

There are a lot of in betweens and a lot of tech but those are the major points.

Anyway, we're rolling it up the line on Flag to put the whole ships company on up to Solo and pick up all the out grades below it.

The time per case on the basic rundown we're using hasn't been added up. Probabaly 4 to 8 hours. That's about, at a guess, 1080 hours for the actual rundown. However there are current pgms and cycles on some cases. So call it to be generous 2000 hours. That's a couple months to repair cases and complete the basic action. Call it 1 February, to include any new persons arriving or new FEBCs. That gives the whole company the basic rundown, should put quite a few on . Dn and Exp Grades on the rest should be completed and the rest on Solo or completed Solo by early summer '71!

You will see, however, the effects of all this (combined with organizing action possible through org breakthroughs) in just two or three weeks.

The place ought to be shedding sparks by 1 February!

Have a nice day!

December 4

So it turns out nobody wants to leave.

So Flag must not be such a bad place after all!

Hey, who can argue with that?

What is missing... what is Not being said....What is Not being seen...That is key to unraveling the lies of Hubbard.

I'm thinking about that mystery level ( ), the open parenthesis above OT that Hubbard was working on. Maybe it was "Excalibur" (EX), predicting a future of ex-Scilons, when they would meet on the Ex Scientologist Message Board.

The new SP Rundown at the SP building, is actually going to train a new generation of Suppressive Persons. Part of Davie's exit strategy? Now that the building might open next year, they are desperately trying to figure out how to lose the SP moniker. Calling Flag "Mecca" doesn't go over well, since 9/11, and even Flag Land Base sounds pretty absurd. Calling it their "cathedral" is silly too.

Let's face it, even if the cult keeps erecting these shopping-mall slick Orgs in places like Inglewood, they are facing huge funny obstacles.

Jesus is more a construct of the mind, because there are no videos or good historical records. I would not attempt to change people's minds about Jesus, and what He means to them (forgiveness, love, redemption). Even though Hubbard sold Sciloontology as "what is true for you," with records like this, just his daily "orders" and musings, we see a fraction of the vast documentation there is, that instead of being galactically wise, he was paranoid and quite a loon!

Instead of functioning in spite of people around him being incompetent, it was quite the opposite. It functioned and grew, because he attracted the bright, hardworking slaves and the successful celebrities, who were working to promote and sell the scam, even if Hubbard was as nutty as a fruitcake and the tech didn't work very well at all. He knew how to attract people, and control them.

This is where it often fails in an individual's life. Not everyone can be mini-Hubbards and have great success controlling and manipulating others, especially if their success is measured by money they donate or the numbers of people they get to buy into Scientology.

One young actor who started courses was offended by the idea of submitting a list of his actor friends who might be interested in courses, which would be like bestowing a  junk mail vampire bite. The person is possessed by Scilon junk mail for the rest of their life, until they contribute 50 million dollars to the IAS or a wooden stake is driven through the heart.

Interesting that LRH chose SMERSH as the Enemy, SMERSH was the counterintelligence organisation set up by Stalin to combat perceived infiltration into the Red Army and other government agencies , translated it refers to 'Death of Spies',I must conclude that LRH saw his organisation(Co$) as a group of Infiltrating Spies that may be exposed and threatened by those opposing it's tactics!

How many MAJOR BREAKTHROUGHS(!!!) did Hubbard have in a year? Was it every time he read someone's article and stole an idea? How many of these ideas were considered "planetary saving" or one of the greatest in the century? His smallest unit of galactic idea importance measurement seemed to be the century.

New Era Dianutty was advertised as up to 100 times more powerful than that old Dianutty. Was that Hubbard or the evil midget? Does it matter, if it is the midget pretending to unearth Hubbard nutty or making some new stuff up?

You people haven't got a clue, and I am fed up with wasting my time with you!

I was on the ships back in 68, and remember reading his Orders of the Day. I was just a kid, barely a teenager. I believed everything he wrote..just young and dumb. It makes me sick to read it now, brings back memories I wish I didn't have, like being thrown overboard. "I comit your sins and errors to the deep in hope you arise a better man, throw him out".

He was a nut job and I was raised by parents that were his followers, I guess thats how it all began. It's a sad thing to be a cult member, a form of slavery, the body isn't chained but the mind is. It's hard for people to understand, if you haven't lived in the bubble chances are you never will.

Thank you Tony for publishing the above, as hard as it is to read, it's important people know how crazy he was.

It's fascinating that someone so paranoid about psychiatry provides such a textbook example of bipolar disorder.

Amazing stuff, Tony.  Would hope that sometime in the future, you will be able to include some "Orders of the day"  from the June 1971 timeline when Susan Meister died on the Apollo from a gunshot wound to the head.

No doubt when people read these (who were never "in") ..your first thought is: "How could *anyone* believe such a madman?" (or some such version of that). The truth is: IF we could LOOK at him as you are, seeing just the insanities, we would have never bought it, either.

However, every Scientologist I know who joined Scientology (Most of us joined before it was really a Church....which is still is not, but in the old days, they said "It's an applied philosophy". Had they really been into the church aspect, I would have never joined.

Also, Hubbard stole many great concepts from people well respected, repackaged them, and said he wrote it. Many of us were young (I was 22), and just were not familiar with ALL these writings, and the *true* sources of what he stole. (*And keep in mind, we joined WAY before the Internet had arrived, so there was zero access to the true facts you now have at the touch of your phones-certainly your computers. :)

Thus, most people got into Scientology because of "the tech" (short for technology) that Hubbard pitched, which sounded good. (Not these Orders or the day, and remember, they were ONLY seen by Sea Org, which was and still remains a small part of the organization, although they are the full time, round the clock workers). As my Father (who was a Professional Football player for the Chicago Cardinals, and in the 60's a "color man" with Curt Gowdy) used to always say: "Monday Morning Quarter backs are a dime a dozen. Why? Because they are telling you what "should" have happened, after the game. They were NOT In the game".

Thankfully, more and more people can now SEE and Read and Hear who this person really is. Super thanks to ALL who help speak out and expose the abuses of C of $. Blessings to Tony and the Village Voice! You all ROCK. Happy Holidays, one and ALL :) Tory/Magoo

Regarding the above "possibly accepted scale" published in the December 10, 1970 OODs as (from top to bottom) "OPERATING THETAN, CLEAR, HOMO NOVIS, HUMAN BEING, ANIMAL", Hubbard revised it later. I have a copy of a later scale published in a 1982 FSM pack. I've emailed it to Tony with the hopes he will web it here. In the 1982 scale Hubbard listed himself ("Source") at the top, with the following in descending order: "SOURCE MATERIALS, MANAGEMENT, ORGS/MISSIONS, Scientologists, PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS, GOOD CITIZENS, CRIMINALS, ROCKS, INSECTS, FENCE POSTS, FBI, CIA, INTERPOL, SQUIRRELS, PSYCHS".

SMERSH (Russian: СМЕРШ, acronym of SMERt' SHpionam, Russian: СМЕРть Шпионам, English: Death to Spies) was the counter-intelligence agency in the Red Army formed in late 1942.   (Wiki ref)

Judging by the e-mails I've received from Mark Miglio lately, he's actually very happy that we're posting these excerpts from the Orders of the Day. It is Source, after all.

I'm beginning to think the only people left in the cult are pedophiles or pedophile protectors.

Let's see what happens now that Jan Eastgate/Meyer has been requested to attend a trial in Australia over charges of perverting the course of justice in covering up systematic child sexual abuse.

This sick and twisted little sect is going down.

Sharone my apologies if my question prompted that. I was NOT seeking to discredit your confirmation of Hana's account, just pondering out-loud my curiosity as too how widely known it was outside of the circle of people who witnessed the kid in the chain locker event first hand.

You are correct.  There are many commenters here who don't have a clue.  Myself included.  Those of us who were fortunate enough to live normal lives.  Grew up in loving families with a full-time mother and father and did not become living orphans due to that abhorrent practice of disconnection.  Had no direct experience of the devastation visited upon unwitting victims by this man's psychosis.  The families torn asunder.  The potential unrealized.  The stolen childhoods on that floating abomination where the demented freak lorded it over his deluded subjects.

That we ridicule the madman's machinations does not disrespect, nenigrate nor discount the suffering of those of you who were there.  It doesn't mean that we don't recognize the evil inherent in this sickness of a cult.  It simply represents another example of real humans caring enough to educate themselves on this inhumanity and speaking our mind about it.

If you *are* Sharone Stainforth, please know that we do acknowledge what you have lost as a result of being ensnared in this cult.  If you are a Sci-troll, or worse, this is for you too.

Sharone- please explain what you mean. For so long, you have been such an excellent voice AGAINST the cult, I think that your comment, in its abruptness, is leaving so many of us flummoxed. We are interested in what you have to say.

I know you left ESMB in much the same way, and I, for one, would like to know what's going on that has you so upset.

Thanks, and my best to you this holiday season...

The clue we have is that Scientology is a fucking cult created by a man who was fucking crazy filled with a bunch of crazy fucking people that are brainwashed into believing his fucking teachings.

If you're here to defend Scientology then don't waste our time. If you really want to though then send an e-mail to Tony Ortega like Mike Migilio has been. It's like he's lost whatever balls he had defending the cult on this blog and that's the only way he want's to get his point across.

What time have you wasted? This is your first comment on this article. If you can't be bothered to give someone a clue then don't attack them for not being able to read your mind.

If you're the same Sharone Stainforth who posts on ESMB, then I'm baffled as to why you persist in lashing out at the very people who are most inclined to sympathize with you.

Sharon, would you like to elaberate on your comment? Who's waisting time, after waisting so much of a life in the Sea Org?

I've heard about the OT stuff and the Xenu crap but I still can't believe how much bullshit Hubbard spit out over the years. Reading these orders really gives one an insight into how paranoid and fucked up L. Ron Hubbard really was.

Thanks for this Tony! Keep'em coming!!

My heart goes out to you dmac, and I'm so glad your able to look back at it now and see the craziness. Since you were a teenager in that timeframe, did you by chance hear of the kid in chainlocker incident during your time on the ship?

We'll get to the June dispatches from 1968, 1969, 1970, and 1971 in...June. Fun, eh?

In addition, wouldn't it be an unprecedented research project to correlate the "Orders of the Day" with ex-sci's memories of those particular events!!

Tory, I have a sincere question. I was not a Scientologist, but I have read everything I could regarding it, including some of Hubbard's books. But the one thing I can't clearly determine, is just what Scientologists mean when they say "the tech".

The Independent Scientologists like to say that "the tech works", but it has always seemed to me that "the tech" is every stupid rule that Hubbard ever made, including those damaging rules that place Scientology itself above individual human rights and personal happiness for the members. Wouldn't I be applying "the tech" if I sent someone to RPF, or disconnected from my family? Aren't those who continue to pretend that Hubbard was the source of special ways of living (if you only apply the tech) intentionally ignore the tech that hurts people?

What specifically, exclusively does "the tech" include in your eyes?

At least Hubbard had an excuse - it's obvious that he was certifiable.  I am still not sure whether or not the current clown will be able to hide behind the same defense.

Tory, your you/tube videos (torymagoo44) have answered many questions I've often pondered. Just thought I'd let you know, thank you. Happy Holidays to you too.

I completely understand what you are saying!

When I was lost and looking for guidance in the old days, few books and fewer teachers.  Later, Borders and Barnes and Nobles had some religious/philosophy books.   Later, everything could be had on Amazon or other websites. Now, any ebook is instantly yours, no effort required.

Hopefully, the predicament you were in (being fooled by the con artist) will be prevented by universal exposure of the con.

Synthia Elizabeth Fagen
Synthia Elizabeth Fagen

Like you said, these OODs were not seen by the rank and file.

One of the lessons I have learned here, though, is that just because one thing is true, doesn't automatically make another true. Duh. The mind can get lazy. It wants to believe and not have to work so hard. So I think what happened is that, at least for me, I got sucked in because I saw a lot of truth in what I was introduced to in the very beginning. That, coupled with the desire to believe in this science of miracles, is what set the trap.

Later I thought, well, these people on their OT levels seem so certain and if it was all bullshit, they would have left by now. Boy, my critical think switch was turned off!

I question everything now. One thing that I think I gained is that I don't think I will ever be so easily fooled again but it is something that one always has to keep one's guard up against.

This can't get out. There will be a loud protest by the insect rights movement that they are ranked lower than rocks. I wonder where the Source's feces are ranked? I'd say they'd fall behind the Source of course, but ahead of Source Materials.

Fence posts?

There are reasons you can't question Hubbard on any of this lunacy. You have to focus on following and paying up, or working long hours to sell it.

Oops.  "denigrate" not "nenigrate".   Don't seem to have that fabled Edit button.  Must be part of the "Advanced Technology®"

She's not a Scn defender. I think her problem is that we're not outraged enough.

Are you talking about Tiger Turly who supposedly climbed out the hoss pipe, CofS Exit Zone? I was on the Athena at the time with Amos, Tolk, Berry, John, Yoka, etc. It was all a long time ago but my memory is still very clear.

Thank you, SP 'Onage. I'm VERY happy to hear that. My goal is to educate the serious abuses of C of $ with two wishes in mind: One: People "in" WTFU and get out. Two: People learn who and what they *really* are, and don't ever get suckered "in".Happily---I've had great success on both counts-which gives me (and them) great joy :)I not and for some time have heard from people from other Cults, who have watched my videos and they're free, too. Sooo cool~

I also work on telling people things C of $ won't tell you, or twist to try to make it something it really is NOT, or really IS and they claim it is not. "The truth shall set you free" is one of Hubbard's lines (and many other people's before him, and after).Oh how true that is. :) I like to remind Scios "in" of that line. If so, why can't they read ALL the information and FACTS? Happy Holidays to ALL :) Tory/Magoo

I especially liked a part of Tory's recent video where she said she met someone recently in charge of PR for Hubbard, as Hubbard sailed from port to port in the Mediterranean. They had to use strict Hubbard tech and it was always a failure with the locals, just causing more suspicion.

When Tory was called in to "handle" some PR situation (not on the boat, but years later), she was successful because not being a Sea Org member, she just used her natural abilities and what she learned from her parents.

You get out of this cult and don't have to attribute every success in your life to "the tech."

So true, Synthia Elizabeth. As I tell everyone who calls (just out) and to those who are regretful: "Don't waste time in regret. It's your life: Celebrate all you loved, and learn from what you didn't. I can tell you this: You will *never* get F***d like that, again, will you?" It always brings a smile, if not an out an out laugh and "oh yeah!" Hard lesson, but an excellent one we've each learned, re con men and women, and critical thinking! :)

One of the things I like about the way Tony does his blog, is posting such a great variety of things for the public to see, including links to other articles about it. That eye-catching goofy photo of Hubbard, launching into his Bond stuff. And it is all authentic source material.

It may kind of bug some exes (not you Synthia), to see a comment by someone who says "These people are all crazy."

I just see a person who is new to the subject, will never get involved in Scientology themselves, and will probably warn family members and friends. That's all it takes. So, I love to see those comments from the Monday Morning Quarterbacks. They're new. That's wonderful. And they've read enough, or are reading enough to see that it is wild and crazy.

I have seen articles in the mainstream press, that if you didn't read them closely, they can almost read in part like ads to try Scientology.

Anyway, to something you mentioned Synthia, about not being fooled again. I never thought of that, how the increased discussion among exes, combined with the research opportunities the web provides, makes that all different.

Before the web, Scientologists who left, some did get fooled again! They were so interested in self-improvement, human potential or transformation, they walked right into another cult or scam. It usually wasn't quite as much of a trap, and usually not  as expensive, but still a trap never-the-less. They were baited and switched. The bait was usually something about it being scientology-like (or not like scientology at all), with the abuse, control and high cost removed. Groups like Avatar and EST.

Now ex-Scilons won't be vulnerable like that. They get to read about the wide variety of people's experiences, and it helps them work through their own feelings. And of course, they can research details on something they want to try, and find people who were in that group or did those courses, or brought law suits for being defrauded.

Exes like yourself and Tory went from getting involved in Scientology, wanting help, or the ability to help others, and end up speaking out and REALLY helping others.

I think this is a really great post, Elizabeth.

It's great to question everything, and above all trust your intuition.

Lots of great stuff to learn in Buddhism, and Advaita (Hindu) for cheap resale book prices.  No ongoing auditing fees either!

No not specifically.. I was loosely referring to the incident Hana Whitfield has discussed and documented several times over the years, and that Sharone Stainforth confirms with her own childhood account of life aboard Hubbard's ship.

I've always wondered if it was more widely known amongst other youngsters on the ship, and whether or not fear of that type of punishment done to children as if they were adults factored into life onboard those blasted tubs.

General Semantics and psychoanalysis are the big ones as far as I'm concerned. People also say Eastern religion, but I can only see very, very broad influences, nothing very specific.

I'm curious,

Scientology defenders always say Hubbard was borrowing from prior traditions.  The independent scientologists say the same.

Who was Hubbard borrowing from?  Crowley the satanist?

Correction: Last line, first paragraph: "I not" was supposed to be  "I now and for some time" FTR :)

Scientology = TechTech = rubbishTherefore:Scientology = ....

I love your comments Mark.

Ya know, due to this experience and then the experience of being out and having all these great discussions, my critical thinking skills are very much being honed - not to the point of excess the other way (which would be closed minded in another sense) but, for example, I am not only questioning spiritual solutions, religions etc. (which I have decided are all crap btw, but, that's me and I digress) but I am also starting to ask myself, "so why am I taking these particular vitamins?", "What do I really think of chiropractic?", etc.

I bought into a lot, I mean A LOT of various different solutions, ideologies, philosophies, etc. without inspection. I have not determined what I fully believe on just about anything yet. That's okay with me. What I am currently doing is "inspecting".

The best thing one could teach a child, IMO, is critical thinking, inspection, etc....that is supposedly what Scientology was supposed to teach! It was a very insidious trap. It's hard to understand how people get so stuck into it when you view it in the context of all the knowledge we now have. Boy! Wow! I am so glad to be out and so thankful for all the intelligent, thinking people around me now.

Thank you!
