Thief Does Not Want Your Stupid BlackBerry

No one wants.

Obviously, people everywhere are angling to steal your wonderful, beautiful iPhone. Not to mention that shiny iPad you're always waving around! As evidence, the New York Post reports today on a duo that has been taking iPhones at gunpoint on the Upper East Side: They've stolen at least 3 phones in the last few weeks. What could be worse than having your iPhone stolen at gunpoint? Having your subpar and totally lame technological device rejected by a thief. How mortifying.

Murray Weiss writes of a Morningside Heights mugger who has at least twice demanded iPhones, at gunpoint, from students at Columbia University -- except when the students hand over their BlackBerries, this happens:

The thief looked at it and immediately handed it back.

"I want iPhones," he snarled, according to a source.

Then another student suddenly appeared in the hallway. The gunman pointed his weapon at him and demanded his iPhone.

That student immediately pulled out his phone and handed it over. It, too, was a BlackBerry.

"Once again the suspect handed it back when he saw it was not actually an iPhone," according to a police report.

The thief then left.

There is a very clear lesson here: Buy a decoy BlackBerry that you can hand over to muggers when they demand your iPhone.

But, seriously, be careful out there! Also, what's up with all these Columbia kids having BlackBerries?
