Journalists From Rupert Murdoch's The Sun Arrested

News of the World? Old news. Months after the that paper was shut down in the wake of phone hacking revelations, the Associated Press reported this morning that four current and former journalists from another one of Rupert Murdoch's British tabloids, The Sun, were arrested for allegedly bribing police. One police officer was also arrested in the investigation known as Operation Elveden.

As Daily Intel points out, the arrests came as a result of News Corp's own Management and Standards Committee, which is there to "drain the swamp," to put it as a source did to the Guardian.

According to the Guardian, News Corp said the following in a statement:

News Corporation made a commitment last summer that unacceptable news gathering practices by individuals in the past would not be repeated.

It commissioned the Management and Standards Committee to undertake a review of all News International titles, regardless of cost, and to proactively co-operate with law enforcement and other authorities if potentially relevant information arose at those titles.

As a result of that review, which is ongoing, the MSC provided information to the Elveden investigation which led to today's arrests.

No comment can be made on the nature of that information to avoid prejudicing the investigation and the rights of individuals.

The Sun's crime editor and its former managing editor are among the journalists arrested.

As of press time, Rupert Murdoch has not tweeted anything about the new developments.
