Greg Kelly Will Not Be Charged With Rape

The District Attorney's office has decided not to charge the police commissioner's son, Greg Kelly, with any crimes, following the conclusion of a two-week-long investigation into accusations that he raped a woman last October.

Kelly's accuser is a 28-year-old paralegal. She told police that she met Kelly for drinks in Lower Manhattan, and that he later raped her in the office where she worked. In the state of New York, rape is defined as "sexual intercourse without consent," due to force, fear or impairment. Throughout the investigation, the woman maintained that she was too drunk to consent to sex.

However, the District Attorney's investigation found that there was insufficient evidence that a crime had been committed. Kelly's lawyers pointed to flirtatious text messages as evidence that the encounter had been consensual. The DA's office will not bring a false reporting charge against the woman, who has not been named.

"I am thankful that the investigation established what I've known all along, that I am innocent of the allegations that were waged against me," Kelly said in a statement to the press. He hopes to return to work as an anchor on Good Day New York soon.
