Planned Parenthood Gets Over $3 Million in Three Days

The good news for Planned Parenthood didn't end with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation's decision to continuing funding screenings at the organization. In fact, the $680,000 that Komen was going to cut looks paltry compared to the amount of money Planned Parenthood raised in the wake of Komen's decision.

Planned Parenthood announced on its website yesterday that the Planned Parenthood Breast Health Fund had received donations totaling over $3 million over past three days.

Every dollar we received for this fund will go directly for breast exams and diagnostic services, as well as breast health outreach and education. And now that the Komen Foundation plans to continue their support, even more women will receive lifesaving breast cancer care.

On their website Planned Parenthood attributed their wealth of new funds to "outpouring of support online." Funny lady Julie Klausner echoed that sentiment, hilariously, by tweeting the following in response to a Gothamist story on the $3 million:

Earlier this week, Mayor Bloomberg pledged money to the cause.

Meanwhile, if you're wondering about Komen's fundraising techniques, Runnin' Scared's Victoria Bekiempis advanced the story behind those pink guns. Over at Jezebel, there is the news via Think Progress that right-wing pundit and former White House press secretary under George W. Bush Ari Fleischer was secretly wrapped up in this whole thing.
