Susan G. Komen for the Cure's Karen Handel Quits Over Planned Parenthood Polemic

Looks like there's more trouble in store for Susan G. Komen, the embattled breast cancer advocacy group.

The Associated Press reports that Karen Handel, Komen's VP for public policy, just quit because the nonprofit decided to keep helping poor women get diagnostic care.

Apparently, Handel was all about Komen's controversial decision to cut screening grants to Planned Parenthood -- and is angry that Komen backed down (via Washington Post).

"I am deeply disappointed by the gross mischaracterizations of the strategy, its rationale, and my involvement in it," Handel said in a letter cited by the AP. "I openly acknowledge my role in the matter and continue to believe our decision was the best one for Komen's future and the women we serve."

A source told the AP that Handel made the push to distance Komen from Planned Parenthood. Handel, who recently vied to be governor of Georgia, often waxed anti-abortion and criticized the family planning organization on the campaign trail.

Guess this means there's another opening!
