RETNA Mural Goes Up At Bowery and Houston

A new muralist is taking work to Bowery and Houston, following FAILE's creation installed in October. On Thursday Bowery Boogie blogged that the FAILE was in the midst of being painted over in white. Now, artist RETNA -- Marquis Lewis -- comes to the location, working in his signature style.
Before jumping into a Q&A, a piece in More Intelligent Life describes RETNA's art as such:
At first glance, the work of the artist Retna looks like an undiscovered ancient script: a series of hypnotic symbols--complex, beautiful and captivating. But Retna has created an original alphabet, fusing together influences from ancient Incan and Egyptian hieroglyphics, Arabic, Hebrew, Asian calligraphy, and graffiti. Each piece carries meaning, conveying an event or dialogue that the artist experienced.
Originally a street artist, RETNA has also become embroiled in the high art scene. For one, Jeffrey Deitch is a fan. Also, he had his first solo show in New York during Fashion Week in February of last year entitled "The Hallelujah World Tour." That exhibition traveled internationally.
