Ryan Beauchamp, Alleged Subway Slayer, Charged With Misdemeanors In Death Of Joshua Basin

Ryan Beauchamp, alleged "subway slayer," charged with misdemeanors.
We're told the man suspected in the "subway slaying" of Joshua Basin has now formally been charged in the 20-year-old's death -- and he's been charged with a couple of misdemeanors.

A source tells the Voice that Ryan Beauchamp, 33, faces one count each of misdemeanor attempted assault and harassment (although, the charges haven't yet been confirmed by the Kings County District Attorney's Office. We've contacted the DA's office, but are yet to hear back).

Basin, as we mentioned, is dead. Beauchamp allegedly is responsible -- yet he's only been hit with a couple of misdemeanors. Obviously, we have a few questions.

Below is the story we got from the New York Police Department describing the incident:

About 10 p.m. Friday, NYPD officers responded to a call that a man had been hit by a train at the Bedford Avenue subway station.

The responding officers determined that the victim, Basin, was arguing with the unidentified suspect (later identified as Beauchamp) while the two were riding on the "L" train.

When the two men exited the train, the suspect started a physical fight with Basin that resulted with both men falling onto the tracks. The suspect managed to get off the tracks and flee on foot. Basin wasn't so lucky -- he was hit by an oncoming train.

Basin was brought to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Other media reports claim that Beauchamp was drunk at the time of the scuffle, which we haven't been able to independently confirm.

Aside from allegedly being responsible for Basin's death, Beauchamp walked away from the incident and never reported it to police -- even as every local media outlet in New York City reported that he was wanted for questioning.

Again, we've contacted the DA's Office looking for an explanation of the seemingly light charges. We'll let you know if we hear back.

Oh, just to put into perspective the charging habits of Kings County District Attorney Charles Hynes, he's the same guy who charged a Brooklyn man with a hate crime for ripping off an old guy. In other words, he's not afraid to throw the book at someone just because the law says he can, which makes the misdemeanors for Beauchamp even more bizarre. Just sayin'...
