Scientology on the High Seas: Three Major Enemies Scalped!

HubbardMarySue.jpg
In November we started a new feature here on Fridays: the Voice has obtained hundreds of copies of L. Ron Hubbard's previously unpublished "Orders of the Day," which he gave to crew members as he sailed the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Our documents cover the period from late 1968 through 1971, and this time we're looking at what was happening the week of February 26 through March 3 during those years.

This week, L. Ron frets over the yacht's proximity to commie territory...

[Confused? Go here for our primer, "What is Scientology?" For recent controversies in the church, check out our stories on Debbie Cook, secrets of the Super Power Building, and spying on Tom Cruise. We know these 40-year-old ship's documents aren't for everyone, but they've been giving us some interesting insights into the mind of Hubbard as he ran Scientology from a yacht at sea. Check back here often for more breaking news about the church.]

February 26: LRH vanquishes his enemies!

Our News

According to Fred Payer in LA in the staff FSM preplay Ron's Journal 68 was received with a standing ovation.

---

If you think we are losing ground, according to a head count to date, three major enemies and the three biggest enemy names are finished.

Cecil King lost his directorship in the Bank of England and his newspaper claim which included the "Daily Mail".

Sir William Carr has also lost his directorship in the Bank of England and has been ousted from his papers and was last seen trying to unite with "Truth" newspapers of Australia, owned by Murdock.

Kenneth Robinson, ex Minister of Health UK has been ousted and is in disgrace with his group.

All three were also directors of the "National Association for Mental Health of the UK.

Three scalps.

Any more candidates for our "coupstick"?

---

The enemy raiding the Adelaide Org seized not only pictures on the wall but also the staff's made up pay packets. Made them awfully "popular" with the public when reported in the press.

---

The SA English language papers have turned for us. The two formerly favorable Africans suddenly turned against us there.

They have rats in the woodwork just now exposing themselves to view.

---

All orgs are open including Melbourne which has re-opened. This despite bans. We have now all original orgs functioning plus many more since 1963.

---

Many papers, persons, magazines and agencies are taking up our cry against psychiatric death camps and brutality. The enemy is worried and even desperate.

---

The UK "Inquiry" has finally gotten down to business and has subscribed (five shillings) to our broadsheet! A handout prepared by the Guardians Office WW.

---

Pubs Org is now safely and totally in Denmark. Still under its SO Captain, our W.O. Doreen Casey.

---

NY was just given by LRH Ed a cancellation of ethics files and a no condition to cool off turbulation. A Guardians Mission is there. They now have orders to locate the source of false reports that were getting people shot. Payer is going to NY to see that the RJ Congress runs well. New York was being 3rd partied to death.

---

The ship has been alerted to sail at least 3 times without sailing.

There are two reasons for this. (1) We are on a border within sight of a country allied to Red China and it is wise (indeed, it is SOP) to be able to get under weigh when you are in a potential war zone, and (2) we needed other data on what was going on in England and with incorporation actions in order to make a firm decision.

We are now waiting for AO Greece customers which should be showing up after Ron's Journal.

Meanwhile we have to get our safety, fire, radio letter which depends on our doing some additional safety work.

While waiting we decide to install the Gyro compass and auto pilot if possible.

We won't be here forever. When AO Greece is well established, we'll be taking a cruise.

---

HCO POL LTR 24 FEB 69 JUSTICE is of interest to all SO members as well as Scns over the world. It will be the basis of any future Missions and should be on the Missionaires checksheet. It unravels unjustices which entered into the ethics system.

---

MSH is well again.

---

I went for a drive today and got some nice pictures.

March 2: We need to learn from the buddy-system developed 80 billion years ago.

WINS AND LOSES

On their return, an FEBC [graduate of a Flag Executive Briefing Course] is expected to get the show on the road fast, not organize to the exclusion of upping existing production.

The Breedens rocketed DC to a week's Affluence immediately on return.

The SH WW UKLO teams have shot WW and SH stats right on up, zoom.

Our FEBCs at USLO ALEX and Bill have held the AOLA Affluence Trend and are tackling AOSH's danger trend.

BUT FEBC LONERS ARE HAVING IT ROUGH. Dick Peterson had a slump in his first week at Celebrity Center. Norman Herring, all alone in all SA, had a slump in his first week in Joburg.

LONE FEBCS CATCH IT ROUGH.

We already had data on this. One OT working alone in an area can get clobbered.

An old, most successful Whole Track pattern (probably the most successful space society, lasted 80 billion and probably still going) always ordered TWO beings to a command post.

It takes FIVE FEBCs to totally man an org's upper echelon. C/O or ED, PRODUCT OFFICER, ORGANIZING OFFICER, HCO AREA SEC and PES or DIST SEC (Consumption Officer).

An ED/Product Officer and Org Officer is evidently the minimum pair.

In the SO we only send a single out to observe. To get anything done we always send two. Bitter experience has made TWO mandatory.

So, Dissem and Dist FAO, YOU BETTER POUND THIS FACT HOME TO ORGS AND GET A SECOND HERE FOR EVERY SINGLE WE HAVE ON THE FEBC.

I can see the rule coming -- we will not train ONE FEBC for an org, we will insist on training TWO minimum.

STATS

Have had lots of congratulations on the high International Stat, highest since Nov '69. Thank you. But it took the lot of us.

LRH, COMMMODORE

2. Al Bornstein is ordered to thorough daily 2 hour study on his post hat. I have already sent Org Officer FAO a full checksheet on promotion for use in his hat.

Lt. Cmdr. Diana Hubbard, Distribution Aide

I hope Diana wasn't too tough on you, Al (wink).

BONUS 1970s AWESOMENESS

While L. Ron Hubbard plied the seas, back on dry land Advance! magazine was thrilling Scientologists with its tales of "OT Phenomena." Those church members who had reached the higher levels of spiritual training shared their stories of superhuman powers with fellow dupes -- er, enthusiasts. This excerpt is from Issue 22, February/March 1974...

My sister gave birth to a 9-pound boy (she is not a Scientologist). She had a rough time.

The day she came home she was rushed to the hospital because she started to hemorrhage. They rushed her in and started to operate.

This all happened in New Jersey. My mother called and told me they had just taken my sister back to the hospital and told me about the operation.

I was in New York City when I received this call. I calmed my mother down and acknowledged her. I then said I will do something and hung up.

I went to my bathroom and exteriorized out of the body to the New Jersey Hospital -- just in time to handle this.

My sister was very near death (at 28 years old!) and had a suppressive doctor! He was not in present time and started to move his hand to cut and it was shaking. I then moved his hand! The nurses looked surprised. I made myself very solid in the operating room and controlled the doctor and nurses, which was vital! After the operation the doctor sewed her up.

I went to see her again later that day with my body.

She opened her eyes and said, "You were there. You saved my life! I don't know how, but you did. I saw you!"

I said, "Yes, I was there."

Gene, my husband, a Class VIII Auditor, then gave her a touch assist. She said, "I will never forget what you have done."

She was out of the hospital in three days after having a major operation and was doing great! This is phenomenal.

I'm sure glad I had the tech and data to handle this! -- Arlyn Hobel, OT

I should ask illustrious commenter John P. to run the numbers on this for us. I mean, think about this for a minute. You figure that, today, it takes several years and about $350,000 to achieve OT VIII, the top of the superhuman end of the Bridge. That's supposed to unlock for you the ability to leave your body and, in this example, take over a physician's hand to do a little remote surgery...but is that really a good bargain? I mean, what's the cost of going to medical school and becoming a surgeon and not just some delusional Scientologist? I'd like to see the math on that.

Tony Ortega has been the editor in chief of the Village Voice since March, 2007. He started writing about Scientology in 1995. You can reach him by e-mail at tortega@villagevoice.com, and if you ask nicely he'll put you on his mailing list for notifications of new stories, which tend to come out each and every morning at 8 am, but can suddenly appear at any time of the day. You can also catch his alerts at Twitter (@VoiceTonyO), at his Facebook author page, and even this new Google Plus doohickey.

New readers might want to check out our primer, "What is Scientology?" Another good overview is our series from last summer, "Top 25 People Crippling Scientology." At the top of every story, you'll see the "Scientology" category which, if you click on it, will bring up all of our most recent stories. As for our regular features, on Thursdays we do a roundup of world press, on Fridays we visit L. Ron Hubbard on the yacht Apollo circa 1969-1971, on Saturdays we celebrate the week's best comments, and on Sundays we publish Scientology's wacky and tacky advertising mailers that people send us.

As for hot subjects we've covered here, you may have heard about Debbie Cook, the former church official who rebelled and is now being sued by Scientology. You might have also heard about the Super Power Building, Scientology's "Mecca," whose secrets were revealed here. We also reported how Scientology spied on its own most precious object, Tom Cruise. (We wrote Tom an open letter that he has yet to respond to.) Have you seen a Scientology ad on TV lately? We debunked some of the claims in that 2-minute commercial you might have seen while watching Glee or American Idol.

Other stories have looked at Scientology's policy of "disconnection" that is tearing families apart. You may also have heard something about the Sea Org experiences of the Paris sisters, Valeska and Melissa, and their friend Ramana Dienes-Browning. We've also featured Paulette Cooper, who wrote about Scientology back in the day, and Janet Reitman, Hugh Urban, and the team at the Tampa Bay Times, who write about it today. And there's plenty more coming.

Depends on the type of med school you go to. However, if you go to a school here in the States, you can either get the Military or HHS/NHSC to pay for your medical education in exchange for a couple of years in service. Pretty fair deal, I'd say

Sad to say ... your projections would likely hold true.

The difference comes in those on the "inside" do not know what we on the "outside" now have as fully documented and vetted information about the Real Story of Scientology.

It is all just a Classic Cold War Scenario.

With Kenneth Robinson, Hubbard counted his scalp a little too soon.

In 1968, the Church of Scientology started publishing articles that were of defamatory nature toward Robinson. Eventually Robinson sued the Church of Scientology of California and L. Ron Hubbard for libel.[12] The case appeared before Justice Ackner, and was entitled: Robinson v Church of Scientology of California and Others.[12] This resulted in a settlement between the parties on June 1973, where the Church of Scientology acknowledged that there was no truth to the published allegations, and offered its apologies to Robinson along with a "substantial sum to mark the gravity of the libels".[12]

OT Phenomena = sooner or later people find out they have been betrayed by their own imagination and L.Ron's OT 6.

I actually feel sorry for some of them because no matter what, this is the goal they worked so hard to get to they want these abilities, they envision being able to fly wherever they want to, talk to lost thetans, ashtrays, perfect memories, whatever else LRon promised them.

Is it crazy? Yeah, in my world of reality it is. That's why there is a disconnection policy, so your family and friends won't talk you out of this nonsense or commit you into mental health for evaluation because you think you're Gandhi or Hitler. Oh, hai Davey! *waves*

How many ex-sci's have come to this blog stating, how embarrassed they were for once believing in this stuff, a lot. It must really hurt when they finally wake up to the con.

Hopefully they'll realize the new in is getting out.

I don't know about you guys but I'm sure hoping Tony is going to dig into this story of the 6 year olds getting Scientology ads with their nursury rhymes.    My favorite part will be where "humpty miscavige sat on the wall......etc"   . I'm hoping that the next time Debbie Cook does an interview she mentions how Miscavige is now advertising to 6 year olds in hopes of filling his empty orgs .   I suppose that's where he gets these huge numbers of new people introduced to Scientology. I was wondering where that was happening.

Shortly after this 'OT phenomena' revelation, the sciopath known as Arlyn Hobel was forcing a little girl to eat her feces because she had deficated in her pants. She also had her pick lint from a shag carpet for hours as amends for being a 'liability'. She screamed and yelled at this child on a regular basis. If you knew Arlyn, you know what loud means. The late Lottie Adler once said she needed OT VIII in order to confront Arlyn.

After a while, when these methods of ethics didn't work for her on the child, she had her OT VIII husband, Gene Hobel, audit the child to remove her ( BTs (Body Thetans). He actually told her about Xenu. I found this out years later after I and another family member coerced the 13 yr old  into NY Org for a session with Bart Dobin. Warning : Never force scientology on people. They will hate you forever.

Anyway, getting back to Arlyn Hobel, back in the 70s she was charging the girl's heiress mother $50/hr for 'babysitting' and ethics handlings. She then charged her rent after having the mother move into the Hobel household/ mission, making her leave her husband who I later married.

The mother, who suffered from unresolved post partum depression, was afraid of Arlyn, who overwhelmed her. The Hobels totally controlled her. The child was 5 years old when the father last saw her. The Hobels refused to allow him to see her. We married 2 years later. I was a 'wog. 'Arlyn had had him declared a "Suppressive Person'. He told me " they are not doing scientology right'. He bropught me to a scientology mission for a seminar and Arlyn happened to be there. She threw us out. The whole thing pissed me off.  I said " You cannot let these people treat you like this and keep your daughter away from you.'

I talked him into taking the mother to family court to exercise his father rights. We told the court about what was going on, what the father knew then about what Arlyn was doing to her, and that the child was not being raised in her religion ( which I knew nothing about) and that the mother was incapable of taking care of the child by herself and had denied him his visitation. We asked for custody of the child until the mother out on her own, out of the grip of this group and the Hobels and was able to care for the child on her own. We won.

Back in the late 70s & early 80s when everyone and his brother were wrongly being declared SPs in the church, Int Mgnt and ED Int ignored Knowledge Reports about the Hobels. Gene Hobel was an old friend of Hubbards, an Old Timer. A CL VIII auditor. We gave up trying. I'd become a scientologist. We grew apart.

In 1983, the father and mother had died in separate 'accidents' within 3 months of each other while doing extensive Repairing of Past Ethics Handlings. The father died in a motorcycle accident. He was a passenger. The driver went through a red light. The mother had been repeatedly called and arrassed by the NY org reg calling her to get into the org. Finally, giving in, she died on her way,  during a bad snow storm. Slipped on ice into the oncoming train. Terrible and unnecessary tragedies. I later convinced the child, with the help of another family member who was caring for the child, to come into NY Org to get 'auditing' . This is when the information about the BTs came up. We wrote this up to ED Int and finally the Hobels were declared in 1985. We then arranged for her to go to AOLA. She was a teen by then. She tried but she just didn't want anything to do with scientology. refused to go back.  No one listened. I, being a brainwashed stubborn scientologist, tried forcing it. The child has hated me ever since. I can't blame her. No apology is going to make up for what she lost. What I know about Scientology, especiually now that I am out and unafraid to see what I had become, I only made things worse for her. This is the kind of 'help' scientologist give.

Arlyn Hobel was a mean, evil loud and extremely large and imposing woman. Gene was pussy whipped. People talk about them like they were good people but those who got caught in their web know the truth. That OT phemomena story is just one example of the real Arlyn Hobel. My story is another.

From Austrian Times: A British-owned iPhone App that plays nursery rhymes to kids is being used to advertise Scientology to children in Austria.

Scientology Target Kids

The campaign was exposed by dad David Millar, 46, who lives in the Austrian capital Vienna and who sent a letter to local media to complain when he was asked by his six-year-old son Michael "Daddy, What is Scientology?"

"Unsure where the question originated Millar had asked his son why he was asking - and discovered the US-based cult advertising on Nursery TV, an iPhone App from Rotherham-based company Music Factory Entertainment Group Ltd.

Peter Parkin, chief executive of the Yorkshire-based company, said he was shocked and disappointed and would be demanding an explanation from Google but said it was out of his control. He said: "The mechanism's that control advertising content are controlled by Google on Google AdMob, they look at browsing history and the type of App and in theory as I understand it this sort of thing should not happen."

Very sorry for your losses and experience.  I stick around only because I know there are children, lately in third world countries, that scientology still has in their sites and now today I hear about the nursery apps story.  This plague needs to be isolated and denied oxygen until it expires permanently.

I'm here because the IRS and the FBI and the States' Attorneys and U.S. Gen Atty will not do the job they are paid to do.  I don't give a damn anymore why.  Most people don't know that just one cell of scientology can still spread like a plague and do serious even fatal damage.  It is in its DNA to seek out the weakest, the youngest, the most vulnerable.  It turns good hearts into bad souls and evil pricks into weapons of cash destruction.

Scientology is the Black Plague of Mental Health. Innoculate your family now before it's too late.

Both were made to do Repairing Past Ethics Conditions because they were considered liars about the Hobels and out-ethics. They were made to review all past conditions and ethics applications, many of which occurred or were originally overseen by Arlyn Hobel. The Hobels were still in good standing at that time. One could not talk badly about them in session or in ethics if one was to stay on the bridge. They had to go digging into the mythical whole tract for reasons why they pulled in all this trouble.

Ever read this about Repairing Past Ethics Conditions?

Why the Death of Lisa McPherson Matters to Me From: "Alec"  Subject: I knew Lisa (was: Why the Death of Lisa McPherson Matters to Me

httpX:X//wwwX.XholysmokeX.Xorg/lm/it-matters-to-me.Xhtm ( remove the Xs)Quote: Her countenance of devotion made you ache with a burning desire to give your life to that game. We never had a clue to the deception in which we moved, lived, and had our being. She applied Scieno-Tech to me in a way I knew it should be applied--flawlessly.

But unknown to me she went one further and allowed that the RPEC was merely a trap set by Hubbard to attribute all wrong practices and mispractices of Scientology to ancient wrong-doings by the errant parishioner. It was extremely important for the survival of Scientology that all apparent mistakes in the Tech be blamed on the one who questioned it--and that is the function of the RPEC (Repair of Past Ethics Conditions) which lasts for the shortest of 1) eternity, or 2) the earliest remembered wrongdoing (usually thousands of lifetimes ago). Most members, rather than continue the process for eternity, are quite ready to settle for a quickly "remembered" wrong-doing that he/she committed much more recently (a more recent past life). Of course the rate of $3000.00 per course of processing extended through eternity would amount to a lot of hamburgers. One might consider he would never again enjoy a burger unless he found a quick self-condemning past ethics outness. But Lisa allowed that I might simply 'not' have committed a prior wrong-doing that was responsibile for the obstacle considered. Even in her total acceptance she transcended the "Tech" and brought the cycle to a quick end. And for that, COS declared her and invoked the ultimate Scientology Ostracism--a Scientology penal system sentence (the RPF). Two years later, as persistent a believer as ever, Lisa counseled me to persist in my engagement with my fiance (even after COS (Celebrity Center, Int'l) implied to me that my fiance was an evil and psychotic person (SP). Me and Lisa... two devoted fools who would follow Scientology to our demise. Luckily for me the sham snapped me out of the hypnosis. I wish I could have slapped Lisa's face during her episode at the accident site where she experienced her psychosis. I didn't and 17 days later her death was partly on my hands. End Quote

A good way to screw up a person is to have them do RPEC.

Her parents tried. Her mother was a good person. Never hurt a fly. A gentile, caring mother when given the chance. She was just way in over her head and the Hobels took advantage of that.  She eventually did what the court asked and we did return the child to her and her new husband. There was no animosity about it between us all. I felt we did her a favor and I think she knew it. She just had such a hard time standing up to them. She was not like some of the mothers who just hand over their kids. No. She loved being a mother and did what she could. She was bullied by these bullies.

The Hobels tried hard to keep their influence, getting her and her new husband to keep coming to course and auditing at their mission but that stopped when NY Org found out aboutwhat happened to the child and made them progress up to the org level. By then the Hobels had taken most of the mother's inheritence. After she died, the child was an orphan. Its a long, painful and heartbreaking story. I don't talk about it much.

I should explain that some scientologists who announce births and post pictures of their newborns and their Vital Statistics, such as in ASHO's (scientology upper level organization) "The Auditor" publication,  don't even list their weight or inches anymore.

They honest to god publish whether they are IAS lifetime members, and also what their status is (how much $$ coughed up) such as Patron. I'm talking about the newborn!  It's Puke worthy.

I would just love to hear a story about current (at least the last 3 years) Scientology Baby Showers.  I am trying to imagine what these would be like.  They just Must be Village Voice worthy.  I'll bet they videotape 'em too.

yeah ...i would not want to talk about it either . Since scientology seems to be focused only on ones own self  and own happiness...it just lays the ground for the inability to empathize ( i think that is pretty low on the tone scale )  That poor beautiful child ...i hope she found some peace in her life with whatever pieces of life fucking scientology left her . And i hope the same for you ....i am glad you are here and talking about your experiences.I have never been in scientology so i get pretty irate when i hear things like this . I hope you are well and safe and welcome to the coolest blog around ;)

Barbara/Sarah Schwartz Rathbun or Sarah/Barbara Schwartz De Rothschild's blog is hands down the strangest site on the internet!

To answer your question...Marty can help some of the people who believe he can help them. He's much like Hubbard in that way. However, Marty will not inspire people to give their life savings to him, and I don't believe he would take anything from a person, if he knew it would put them in a bad situation financially. Hubbard and Miscavige would both take everything they can get their hands on, and Miscavige wants people to take out loans, which is even worse.

So, Marty is better than Hubbard in some ways, right now at least. Marty is not going to be strapping anyone down and forcing the Introspection Rundown on them.

What does Barbara need help with? Her engram for her burning delusion of love for Marty Rathbun's doppelganger? Even Hubbard didn't come up with a solution for that. Now if she had clam jaw or a large inheritance burning a hole in her pocket...

You yourself wrote that Hubbard wasn't interested in having his books in libraries, read by "degraded beings" who couldn't afford to buy them. Hubbard was mainly interested in people with money or influence and Barbara has neither of those. Marty is like Hubbard. How much time did Marty and Mike spend flitting around Tom Cruise and other important rich people?

People who truly emulated Jesus, are like Mother Teresa, who helped the poorest of the poor, with nothing or little in return. Hubbard demanded EXCHANGE. If you were going to let him fuck with your mind, you were going to pay for it with money or by working long hard hours. Marty is very much like Hubbard in that way, but on a much smaller scale.

Marty isn't saving the planet, but he's doing something significant in bringing down the Church of Scientology. Wouldn't you like the money you spent on Scientology back, or be properly reimbursed for minimum wage for time you spent working in the Sea Org?  It could help you buy an emeter, more cat food or something. Maybe the cult will collapse and people like yourself can apply for a refund.

"Marty cannot help her"

Then can Marty really help anyone? Barbara has been writing about Marty for at least the five years I've been acquainted with her. Assuming Marty is right and she is mentally disturbed (his opinion, not mine), then wouldn't he reach out to the lady who is obviously crying out for help from him? If Marty hadn't opened his stupid mouth and falsely claimed to be an expert Scientology auditor, I would let it go. If he didn't have any tech training, he could claim an inability to help her. BUT Marty Rathbun claims to be an expert on the human mind and spirit. Yet he can't even get into communication with her?

I've communicated with both Marty Rathbun and Barbara Schwarz in e-mail in the past. Probably a dozen e-mails were exchanged with each one. In my opinion, Marty Rathbun can't help her or anyone else because he is beneath her level.

Barbara (once head of an Org in Germany) has some problems that are way beyond helping with Scientology. Marty cannot help her Jonathon. She doesn't even believe the Marty married to Mosie is her Marty. She thinks he's an imposter. If I were Marty, I'd do the same, leave Barbara alone.

Marty is not a loser. He has a nice wife, a nice house, and lots of friends who trust him. He's going to try to return their trust by being kind to them and giving them all "the tech" and ARC they can pay for after having to leave or be thrown out of the cult. Plus, they are united by a steaming hatred of David Miscavige. They found their "who" and they want to handle that who, before it is too late to save the planet with Dianutty processing.
