Sleep No More Remixed: Version 2.0, April Fool's Joke, Or Phishing Scam?

SleepNoMore.jpg
Prior to receiving the above "telegram" today, we've been to the McKittirck Hotel twice to engage with Punchdrunk's Sleep No More.

Now, it seems the production is about to undergo a radical change.

Or engage in an April Fool's Day prank against would be returning customers.

Or maybe, as the click through site tells you to return in two days to purchase tickets, it's simply a phishing scam to get your credit card data.

Either way, it's an intriguing mystery.

Of all the options, the April 1 date leads us to believe it will merely be an April Fool's prank. But it's odd if this is merely a marketing ploy. The production has been routinely sold out and extended for months. Perhaps the hotel's marketers think Fair is foul, and foul is fair.

As for needing to "remix" the show, this seems unnecessary. There are something like 96 rooms in Sleep No More across about 100,000 square feet, so repeat "hotel guests" can easily remix each visit on their own. Between the first and second time we saw it, we discovered an entire floor (!) we'd missed the first time, and finally saw the goat blood-covered, strobe lit naked orgy we'd heard so much about after our first time. Perhaps this is just Something wicked this way comes.

Or maybe it's a Hitchcockian/Scottish take on ye ol' Ethiopian spam scam. Could just be Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.

Perhaps we shall sleep no more until we get to the bottom of this.

Got a clue? Get at us.

Did anyone end up seeing it? I'm dying to know what it was!

I know someone who works in the show and it's not a phishing scam - they are doing a special extra show on Sunday, April 1st only for guests who have already been to the show.  (There isn't normally a Sunday evening show.)  They do have an email address for questions  (info@sleepnomorenyc.com) if you want to do any fact-checking next time.

What a horrible accusation. Why not check with the source first? Jeez

Hope this is just a prank because the original show is good and no need to remix it!

I agree with the two previous commentors.  What you said wasn't cute.

I agree with Kevin. To suggest that this is a phishing scam is ridiculous and irresponsible. Sleep No More has already hosted some similar holiday-attached parties with clever marketing emails and nothing has ever been malicious.

Don't you think it could be damaging to Sleep No More to suggest on your blog that their April Fool's Show announcement could be a phishing scam to get people's credit card data without doing some checking first?  To me that goes speculation and into irresponsibility. I'm sure you could call their press office or marketing department to find that out.

I saw it...the only major difference was it was all music from the 80s, and I think about every 30 min they changed which actor was playing what part (like the black bald witch started out then the white one took over acting then back to the black one, it took a while to catch on actually). The actors danced a little differently in a couple of the scenes and seemed to have more fun.

If this was a phishing scam, certainly it would be by a third part and not by Sleep No More.
