Tim Tebow In New York: Sees Broadway Musical, Gets Carnegie Deli Sandwich Named After Him
New York, get ready, Tebow's in town and you're going to hear about every move he makes. First up: Tebow sees a show! Though we're not sure if he needs any lessons on how to be popular, Tim Tebow went to see the Broadway musical Wicked in New York last night, according to the New York Daily News. Donna Vivino, an actress in the production, notified her public via Twitter of the new Jet's presence at the show.
Since this blogger is a bit of a musical theater nerd, let's look at Tebow's choice of show. Wicked is successful and has broad appeal. Despite its name, it's wholesome. It's not one of the two shows running that some might consider obvious picks for Tebow based on his very public religious beliefs: Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar. Unfortunately, West Side Story is not still running so we couldn't make a "when you're a Jet you're a Jet all the way from your first touchdown pass to your last Broadway play" joke.
In other Tebow comes to New York news, according to ESPN, tomorrow, the famed Carnegie Deli will unveil their "Jetbow" sandwich, their first sandwich named for a celebrity to use white bread and mayo:
The meal will be about 3.5 pounds and contain corned beef, pastrami, roast beef, American cheese, lettuce and tomato on white bread, and will be introduced Monday to coincide with Tebow's press conference.
"He's the poster boy for every parent and what they want their kids to be," owner Sandy Levine said. "Very religious, very clean-cut, an outstanding student, he does charity work. What more do you want as an athlete than him?"
And in the New York Times, conservative columnist Ross Douthat used both Christian and Hunger Games metaphors to discuss Tebow's arrival to what Douthat called "Babylon-upon-the-Hudson."
Meanwhile, if we want to talk about sports when we talk about Tebow. The New York Post writes today that current Jets -- who asked to remain anonymous -- "expressed disbelief at the team bringing in Tebow:"
The idea of a backup quarterback having a press conference is something they can't wrap their heads around, and they know it's just the beginning.
The Jets' press conference officially introducing Tebow will be held tomorrow at noon.
