Mitt Romney To Speak at Jerry Falwell's Liberty University (Seriously)

Phew.

At first, it seemed like Mitt Romney wasn't going to sink to Rick Santorum levels to court the religious right -- which would have been super boring for those of us who keep our eyes peeled for cringe-inducing campaigning.

Like all Republicans who want to win, however, Mitt has realized that he must woo evangelical voters -- who often mistrust him for being Mormon.

And what better way to start than by giving the commencement speech at Liberty University, the college created by televangelist/Moral Majority founder Jerry Falwell?

For reals.

From Liberty U's website, we learn that Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. announced today that Romney will give grads a talking to on May 12.

"We are delighted that Governor Romney will join us to celebrate Commencement with Liberty's 2012 graduates," Falwell said.

"This will be a historic event for Liberty University reminiscent of the visits of Governor, and then presidential candidate, Ronald Reagan to Liberty's campus in 1980 and of President George H.W. Bush who spoke at Liberty's 1990 Commencement ceremony."

Expected on the scene will be 14,000 graduates and 34,000 guests. Mitt will also have a massive web presence -- Liberty's 70,000 online scholars.

No word whether a water slide is part of arrangement.
