We thought the Beach Boys were all about fun in the sun; the nice beach tides and "Good Vibrations;" and a whole bunch of fun until daddy takes the T-Bird away. Apparently not.
This little gem released by the forerunners of "professional" celebrity journalism, TMZ, captures on tape remarks made by Bruce Johnston. For those of you who don't know him, he's one of the background singers on "California Girls." He's also not a big fan of Obama. And he is absolutely vocal about it.
"Obama is an asshole," said Johnston, "Unless you're interested in never having any money and being socialized... you're fucked." Those are harsh words from a group that once sang a song called "Wouldn't It Be Nice?" Until this point, scientific evidence showed that the Beach Boys did not even have the ability to curse or say anything bad about anyone. My, how the times have changed.
As the Beach Boys embark on their 50th Anniversary tour, Johnston spoke his mind outside of Manhattan's Beacon Theatre. From the looks of the video, it is unknown what sparked the political outrage. But at least his criticisms were fair and balanced:
"And who's the Republican asshole?", he quipped, "Our guy [Romney] isn't any good." To Johnston, the electoral characterizations are set: Obama will take your money and turn this country into France; Romney, on the other hand, has all the money but still sucks. And life's a beach.
So there you have it: even the Beach Boys, who were supposed to be the guys girls were proud to bring home to their parents, don't like Obama. At least he still has Betty White.
