Lisa Marie Presley Removes All Mention of Scientology From Her Official Website (UPDATED)

Categories: Scientology

LMP404.jpg

After the jump: Less than 30 minutes after we pointed out one last CCHR mention on her website, Lisa Marie scrubbed it!

Yesterday, the Voice revealed the lyrics to the song "So Long" on Lisa Marie Presley's new album, Storm and Grace, which seem to confirm what she was saying in her advance single, "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet" -- that Lisa Marie has very much "blown" the Church of Scientology.

Some of our readers, however, noted yesterday that there were still links all over Lisa Marie's official website to Scientology entities, such as the notorious anti-psychiatry front group, Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR). As of this morning, those links are gone, and if you try to go to a gallery of Lisa Marie at a CCHR event which previously appeared on her site, you get the screen above.

Tomorrow, Presley's album officially comes out, and she's going on a major publicity push that will have her at Good Morning America and American Idol this week.

We doubt that the entertainment "reporters" that she'll run into will ask her about this stuff, but just in case they have the temerity to, here's what they might bring up with her.

The lyrics to her single, "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet"...

You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet

Lay down the law, don't make a sound
Just critical, just going down
I don't belong, I've lost the plot
Not gullible, can't be what I'm not

You can think that I'm evil and I'm off the rails
You ain't seen nothin' yet

If I don't get with your system then I'm sure to fail
Well you ain't seen nothin' yet

Lay down the truth, don't make a sound
Just a piece of fruit who's hit the ground
I don't respond, I've lost the plot
Unethical, not what I thought

You can think that I'm evil and I'm off the rails
You ain't seen nothin' yet

I'm a bit transgressive and suppressive as well
Well you ain't seen nothin' yet

Am I a disruption to your corruption?
You ain't seen nothin' yet

You can think that I'm evil and I'm off the rails
You ain't seen nothin' yet

If I don't get with your system then I'm sure to fail
You ain't seen nothin' yet

No longer elated, now you're frustrated
You ain't seen nothin' yet

You can think that I'm evil and I'm off the rails
You ain't seen nothin' yet

If I don't get with your system then I'm sure to fail
Well you ain't seen nothin' yet

You can think that I'm evil and I'm off the rails
You ain't seen nothin' yet

I'm a bit transgressive and suppressive as well
You ain't seen nothin' yet

As we explained last month, no Scientologist in good standing would ever describe themselves as "a bit suppressive." (See our previous post to understand why.)

We then obtained the lyrics to the rest of Lisa Marie's album Storm and Grace from her label, and wrote that after looking at the lyrics of the song "So Long," there's really little doubt that she's walking away from the church...

So Long

This here is a city without lights
Those are all the people without eyes
Churches, they don't have a soul
Soup for sale without a bowl
Religion so corrupt and running lives
Farewell, fair weathered friends
I can't say I'll miss you in the end

Chorus:
So long, seems that I was so wrong
Seems I wasn't that strong
Dead wrong, and now I'm long gone
Wrong side, I've been sleeping on the wrong side
Stains all over my soul I can't hide
Nothing's more clear than goodbye

These roads they don't lead to anything
These people they talk, they say nothing
Actors who don't have a part
Heartfelt people with no heart
I'll find a new crowd
Make a new start
Farewell, fair weathered friends
I can't say I'll miss you in the end

(Chorus)

So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, say nothing at all if you've nothing nice to say

In yesterday's post, former Scientologists Jefferson Hawkins and Jason Beghe explained how clear the message in this song is to other people who have left the church.

After our story yesterday, reader Paul Jay Salerno asked, if she's left the church, why are there still links to Scientology all over her official website?

I answered to Paul that perhaps she hadn't seen the site in a while -- a common thing for celebrities.

Then, this morning, I noticed that Scientology was completely wiped from her website.

Well, that's very interesting.

I want to give a quick thanks to Celebitchy, who credited us for breaking news of the "So Long" lyrics. Perez Hilton, on the other hand, just swiped them from us without even giving us a link. (And yes, I know he took them from us, because I made a couple of small grammatical corrections to the lyrics which the label sent me, and the corrections are in Hilton's post.)

UPDATE: It looks like there is at least one mention of CCHR still on her website. Salerno had pointed out that CCHR links were all over the place on the website just yesterday, and they seem to be gone. But in her "Overview" page, there is still one CCHR mention, as Jim Little pointed out to me. She refers to CCHR as one of several groups she works with in her philanthropic efforts. But any mention of CCHR (or other Scientology entities) has disappeared from her "philanthropy" page itself.

SECOND UPDATE: SHE'S NOW SCRUBBED CCHR FROM THE "OVERVIEW" PAGE! Less than a half hour after we noted that there was one last CCHR mention on her website, Lisa Marie (or her web master, obviously) removed it from the page! I guess someone is looking at our stories, eh?

Um, wow.

AND NOW IT'S BACK. Wow, this Overview page is really getting a workout. She's also restored CCHR to the Philanthropy page -- which was not there just a couple of minutes ago, as well as a CCHR page of its own. (Someone must have got a call from OSA!)

You can reach him by e-mail at tortega@villagevoice.com, and if you ask nicely he'll put you on his mailing list for notifications of new stories. You can also catch his alerts at Twitter (@VoiceTonyO), at his Facebook author page, on Pinterest, a Tumblr, and even this new Google Plus doohickey.

New readers might want to check out our primer, "What is Scientology?" Another good overview is our series from last summer, "Top 25 People Crippling Scientology." At the top of every story, you'll see the "Scientology" category which, if you click on it, will bring up all of our most recent stories.

As for hot subjects we've covered here, you may have heard about Debbie Cook, the former church official who rebelled and was sued by Scientology. You might have also heard about the Super Power Building, Scientology's "Mecca," whose secrets were revealed here. We also reported how Scientology spied on its own most precious object, Tom Cruise. (We wrote Tom an open letter that he has yet to respond to.) Have you seen a Scientology ad on TV lately? We debunked some of the claims in that 2-minute commercial you might have seen while watching Glee or American Idol.

Other stories have looked at Scientology's policy of "disconnection" that is tearing families apart. You may also have heard something about the Sea Org experiences of the Paris sisters, Valeska and Melissa, and their friend Ramana Dienes-Browning. We've also featured Paulette Cooper, who wrote about Scientology back in the day, and Janet Reitman, Hugh Urban, and the team at the Tampa Bay Times, who write about it today. And there's plenty more coming.

Glad she is awake! It took me 20 years of hell and back, losing my son, to realize how dangerous scientology is! If fake was all that made up crap was! It's more than fake, it's dangerous, and I hope many more wake up!

CCHR is still mentioned on her page at About Overview.  They still have their hooks on her, some people that say they leave never really do.

The video for You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet is out. Look at the smirk on her face as she sings  "I'm a bit transgressive and suppressive as well"!

Just bought Lisa Marie's album with booklet off iTunes. Zero thanks to, or mention of, Hubbard or anyone else in the cult. I count that as a good sign, and the album is actually quite good.

LMP's site has just had a new facelift, but unfortunately, the CCHR link is still there.

After the relative anti-climax of Debbie Cook and Jan Eastgate, I'm not getting my hopes up.  Time will tell if Lisa Marie P. is really truly out.

Here is the W magazine photoshoot of TC as his character from Rock of Ages, fake tattoos and all.  He looks ridiculous, although the feminine look with the make-up and longer hair really suits him.

I'd love to get a closer look at all the jewellery he's wearing to see if he snuck in a "double triangle" or eight pointed cross somewhere.

There appears to be a minor Scio celebrity blitz going on, with Tom C.'s Playboy article and tattoo pics coming out and Kelly Preston's interview about Scio helping her cope with Jett's death.  Scientology even made it briefly to No. 1 on the Yahoo Most-searched subject list.

Did she blow or didn't she? All the shenanigans on the website give one pause, but then again there's  the issue of her lyrics . . .

"I'm a bit transgressive and suppressive as well,

You ain't seen nothin' yet."

Am I a disruption to your corruption?

You ain't seen nothin' yet."

I just don't see what else that could mean.

I found this National Enquirer piece that Cruise has picked a $cientology husband for his daughter Isabella.  I thought she blew?

Story has been denied, but who knows.

“Tom Cruise has handpicked a husband for his daughter Isabella,” begins a piece in the National Enquirer, which goes on to say that the star is “so delighted” with his choice of music composer Eddie Frencher, “he’s promised to arrange the entire wedding and honeymoon.”

According to the tab, Cruise is willing to “arrange for the flowers, seating, everything” at his mansion, and “would even pay for the engagement ring his daughter seems to want so badly!”The mag says Cruise has known Frencher’s family for a long time because they are “prominent members in the Church of Scientology.”

“It wasn’t important to Tom that Eddie doesn’t come from money, what was important is that the family has Scientology values,” says a supposed “insider.”

Here’s what’s true: Isabella and Frencher are dating.

Here’s what’s not true: Everything else.

Cruise did NOT handpick Frencher as a husband for his daughter.

A source close to Cruise tells Gossip Cop that the Enquirer story is all “lies.”

LMP leaving the cult would mean so much to former members. I had lunch with a friend of mine who was in the Sea Org from the age of 14 and was used as slave labor to rehab Big Blue back in the 70s. She doesn't think that the lyrics could mean anything else but goodbye to the whole package. I hope she's right. LMP may not have full access to her own website knowing the paranoid machinations of the Tiny Terror™, hence the on again, off again quality of the links.

So apparently Tom Cruise has done an interview with Playboy where he broaches the subject of $cientology.

It wuold be nice (yet not at all expected) if she were to speak out about her support and advocacy of Scientology's frauds which she herself engaged in by spreading the CCHR bullshit. Her advocacy may have maimed people, gotten people killed, and undeniably caused people to get money swindled from them, both in Scientology's CCHR frauds and Scientology's proven deadly NarCONon frauds.

"Perez Hilton, on the other hand, just swiped them from us without even giving us a link. (And yes, I know he took them from us, because I made a couple of small grammatical corrections to the lyrics which the label sent me, and the corrections are in Hilton's post.)"

A mapmaker once included the cities of Goblu and Beatosu along the Michigan/Ohio border. They don't exist--he was an avid Wolverines fan ("Go Blue" and "Beat OSU"--get it?) and the fake cities were copyright traps, and, sure enough, they showed up on another map one day, so he knew they were stolen.

Tony's corrections are copyright traps, and Hilton fell for it.

On LMP's Facebook page, a Billboard magazine interview was reposted, with the question "what would you ask Lisa?"  Most questions concerned Elvis, tour plans or wanting to meet LMP, but this one comment made it through the gatekeepers:

Kim Loss:  I would ask Lisa if she has read the coverage of Debbie Cook's testimony and if we can expect any public announcements from her in the near future regarding the church of Scientology.

Sound like the is mad at the cult but believes that Psychiatry is still evil. Scientology is bad, CCHR is good. This tells me that she is lashing out more at individuals than the institution. She might be a candidate for the indy movement or worse, pulled back if the conditions are right.

JustCallMeMary
JustCallMeMary

I think this is a matter of jumping the gun on the website content with 'it's gone' then 'it's back'. First of all, the site was in much need of updating since there was only one little blurb on the main page about her new album, the rest being older materials. ( Her site should have been updated weeks ago - a PR faux pas ).

And the CCRH content itself?

How many exs still believed in CCHR game, the 'psychs are bad' mantra, and even the study tech itself etc after they left the cult? It took me years to want to even consider those things might not be truth. To this day there are some exs who believe in these things and yet they are out and some are even publicly stating so. Yet they believe in the things we others have found to be lies. Leaving Scientology is a process. It's an evolution. It's like peeling off layers of an onion. It takes time to become educated in the truth from the many lies. There would be no CCHR if there were not a least a bit of truth to some of what they rail about. This is how so many of us got sucked into supporting it during our years in Scientology.

So, if indeed Lisa has left Scientology, it does not mean she no longer believes in the parts of it that she sees as truth for which she was passionate about before leaving. It does not mean she is as educated as so many of us have become, about the lies, fraud and deception behind the front group programs. There are some good comments on this article that demonstrate that it was not an overnight change of thought on the whole of Scientology that lead to understanding the many tentacles, but a gradual revelation of the facts as they were faced.

It's easy to speculate on the songs, the website and the woman's membership in the cult but it's important to keep things in perspective. Anyone leaving Scientology has to do it on their own terms but we know from personal experience that leaving Scientology is a lot more than just walking through the exit door. If Lisa Marie Presley has left the organization, she deserves to find the truth about what Scientology really is on her own terms.

Once, when I worked at EarthLink, OSA called me up and asked me to take down a customer's website that had "confidential data" on it. I refused, telling them they had to go through regular channels. They didn't like it.

So, I can easilly imagine them strong arming some "asset" who has or once had administrative access to her site, "to help with her image and dissemination efforts", into tampering with her site while they try last ditch efforts to "recover" her so they can refute the rumors.

I wonder who's doing the changes on Lisa's website? I doubt it was her because she's in Memphis signing autographs and promoting her record.

Monday, May 14th at 7:00 pm, you can meet Lisa Marie Presley at Sun Studio and be among the first to purchase her new album, "Storm & Grace."

What better place to meet Lisa and get her to autograph her latest album than in the studio where rock 'n' roll was born? Sun Studio is located at 706 Union Ave in Memphis and will be open all day so arrive early and take the tour.

So far she hasn't admit the song is about scientology, but then again she hasn't denied it either. Lisa's pretty outspoken. If it definitely wasn't about scientology you'd think she would stop the rumors immediately to protect scientology.

Why is this unusual? The guy doesn't shut up about the cult. It's not like he's never "broached" the subject before.

Now if someone like LMP broached the subject, that would be significant.  Or deniers like Jennifer Lopez or Will Smith.  But Cruise?  Been there, done that.

He's just hyping his new movie anyway.

Early in my career I was a radio traffic reporter, and we knew other stations were stealing from us.  Every once in a while I'd make a deliberate, very minor error, like inventing a street name or getting a direction wrong.  Sure enough we'd hear the same mistake repeated by our competitor's traffic reporter in their next report.

About your last sentence... I wouldn't mind it in the least, if fate interceded for Lisa to find the truth about Scientology on Reitman's terms or Ortega's terms, instead of her own. Her own terms are as a child who was born a celebrity. A person so rich and famous that she's had people attempting to manipulate and use her to their advantage from the first day of her birth.

Other than her ability to Twitter about herself, we have no idea if she's interested in the web at all, enough to do the most basic searching for information about Scientology. For all we know, she may have had handlers that warned her about the entheta of using the web for any kind of information.

I hope some journalist, or someone close to her not only has the balls to ask her about how her lyrics relate to Scientology, but things like if she's read Reitman's book or saw Jason Beghe's video.

"I wonder who's doing the changes on Lisa's website?"

They never seem to rest. It's just one big PR crisis after another. They live in a constant state of alert, like at DEFCON 2 (war readiness) level. I think that's why so many of them crash and burn out at such young ages.

I think scientology celebrities are becoming more of a burden than an asset. I was in line at COSTCO and over heard two women discussing John Travolta and Kelly Preston. And it wasn't pretty what they were saying about scientology. I almost told them to look up Tony Ortega and Village Voice on the internet. LOL!

dlk4891
dlk4891

Mark, you bring up a good point. From my own observation and conversations with her many years ago I can say that, at the time, she did not appear to be someone who would back off or bend to external pressure. If she wanted something, she would go straight at it. She was (at that time anyway) a very, "oh yeah? you *uck yourself" so I HIGHLY doubt she has NOT done some internet research on David Miscavige and his crime syndicate / Church of Scientology. She always did things on her own terms. Granted she is or was on OT7, so she was subjected to much pressure to conform to the organizations influence, but I don't see that fire in her ever flickering out whereby she would be cowed into a corner. As JustCallMe Mary pointed out, LMP will follow her own points of interest and curiosity and look at all the information in due time. The onion analogy is still the best. Layers have to come off, one at a time. There is too much internal resistance to dive in too fast, and a person can become overwhelmed with feelings of betrayal. This is a phenomena that seems clearly misunderstood by those who were never in Scientology. Sorting out all the information about the church has to come in stages. Otherwise a person can reject the entire body of data because they find it conflicts with too much of what they currently believe. I have walked the same road as others I know what LMP is going through. Better that she come forward at a time when she has all her ducks in a row, not because of any pressure from any other sources.

CanuckXenu

I'm just guessing on this, based on my career involved in the music/radio industry:

LMP is now managed by one of the biggest, most influential management companies in the world (Simon Fuller's agency XIX Entertainment) and is signed to the biggest record company in the world, Universal.

Usually when artists are involved with companies like these, one or the other handles the website (label or management) and the artist has very little or no input in the content of the site.  There may be a small interactive section (rapidly being replaced with Twitter and/or Facebook, etc.) where the artist posts personal content directly, but that's rare.

Tony, have you tried asking her PR person, Bobbie Gale, for a statement? E-mail and phone numbers are at the bottom of LMP's press release on the website.  I realize the PR person will probably not answer, but sometimes the kind of non-answer tells you something.  Have you asked for an interview with the VV?  Start off about the music and at the very end pop the key questions.  I can't tell you how many times I've been warned ahead of time not to bring up certain touchy subjects with certain artists but there are ways of easing into it, and sometimes the artist actually wants to talk about those forbidden subjects if framed with respect and dignity.

I just realized how ridiculous it is, me giving Tony O. interviewing tips...sheesh...

Jgg
Jgg

Another thing to consider: she may be one of these indies who likes the anti-drug message of LRH but hates Miscavige and his fascist tactics.  Also, CCHR was co-founded by a non-scientologist, Thomas Szasz, who simply did not believe in mental illness (albeit for different reasons than LRH).  Under Scientology's rules, any dissent makes you an SP and she has done that.

SP 'Onage

Notice scientology wasn't brought up or her mother. I'm sure she requests it not be. Will we ever find out who everybody is?

Watched it. However, from the interview, if you weren't looking for it to be about Scientology, there wouldn't be a hint that it has anything to do with Scientology, except she said it was "everything" (except her children) around her that was bad. (In other words, she didn't make any exception for Scientology, or say anything about how "the tech" helped her through difficult times...) The lyrics in the song point more at Scientology than anything she said in the interview.

The interview was just confusing and confused. She babbled nervously about having to have other people fire these people, because she couldn't do it herself. People were taking money from her, "illegally."

I'm hoping the promise in the song is real, and that we "ain't seen nothing yet."

Meanwhile... another 47 articles about Kelly Preston talking about how Sciloontology helped her deal with Jett's death. Sweet baby Xenu!

I think the new website team just migrated everything over to the new site, and then they started cutting out the stuff that shouldn't be there.  The new site went live sometime between 4 p.m. Sunday and early Monday morning.  Yesterday afternoon (Sunday) there was still a direct link to Scientology on the old site, among the other links mentioned here.

In fact now that I'm thinking about it(while washing dishes!) Simon Fuller is the ONLY reason LMP is doing American Idol this week,  He owns and controls the Idol franchise and manages all the big Idol winners and runners-up.

Usually Idol only invites the cream of the crop of the music world; artists with a long and impressive career.  Or the hottest current artists. With all due respect to LMP, we all love her and respect her here, but her music career doesn't justify the appearance.  I can only presume it will be some sort of Elvis night on Idol.

I think I still have access to BDS, which monitors radio airplay in the US and Canada.  Just for fun I'll keep my eyes on the single to see how much radio action it gets, but apart from some feature play for curiousity I can't see LMP finding a place on most radio playlists.

Looks like in the last few days her entire website got a massive facelift.  Just last week its format and style was somewhat pathetic and outdated for someone with such a big name -- in addition to the CoS stuff, it also referenced her MySpace page (yikes!), and now that's gone and replaced by Twitter and Facebook.  I'm sure there is a team of new professionals monitoring internet chatter and working on her image.
