The Bible Via-Manny Pacquiao: Gays Shouldn't Get Married, They Should Be "Put To Death"

The gayz have a new enemy -- and he's a 5-foot-6 Filipino who could probably kick your ass.
*UPDATE 2: Since this post was published, the "journalist" who claimed Pacquiao quoted a Bible verse calling for the death of all things homosexual has come clean -- he admits Pacquiao never said it. Get the details here.

*UPDATE* See our list of gay people who could beat the crap out of Pacquiao.

Lovable Filipino boxer/congressman Manny Pacquiao, it turns out, is a bit of a dick.

In response to President Barack Obama's announcement that he's now pro-gay marriage, Pacquiao says he doesn't agree with the president's position and that according to the Bible, homosexuals should be put to death.

In an interview with the National Conservative Examiner, Pacquiao quoted Leviticus 20:13, telling the publication that "if a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

He went on to say that society needs to "put God's word first."

Pacquiao, apparently, missed church the day they explained the "Golden Rule."

(We reached out to Pacquiao to give him a chance to explain his idiotic comments. He hasn't gotten back to us yet. We'll let you know if he does).

The boxer went on to say "God only expects man and woman to be together and to be legally
married, only if they so are in love with each other. It should not be of the same sex so as to adulterate the altar of matrimony, like in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah of Old."

Aside from being a boxer and congressman, the feisty Filipino also is a devout Roman Catholic, who recently talked about giving up boxing to focus on his religion. Considering how badly he seems to interpret the "good book," maybe that's not such a bad idea.

Again, Pacquiao's camp didn't immediately respond to our request for an explanation. We'll let you know if he gets back to us.

Shame on this James King, whoever he is, for being a scoop-whore, dick-head! This is irresponsible journalism at its height. Wrongfully attacking Manny Pacquiao on a misquote, based on a no-name blogger?  No one on this site even have the integrity to apologize. Your haste to destroy others is the TRUE evil.

this shows how idiotic you and other liberals are for not checking sources and for jumping to conclusions in your endless witchhunt of intolerance in the name of so-called tolerance. Its funny to the right of the page is an ad for a musical called 'american idiot' with a grenade. where's the uproar over that?

Still no apologies from the Village Voice to Manny Pacquiao for spreading the lie that he said gay people should die? All he gets is an insulting pseudo-retraction that calls him names and tried to pass off the blame on others.

They're so quick and catty to malign others, but don't apologize where an apology is due. And they call themselves journalists. Lol.

I certainly do hope the Village Voice gets sued for treating a completely and transparently  bogus conservative propaganda site without skepticism and slandering the name of the greatest hero of most Filipinos and of so many boxing fans around the world. Of course few will read the retraction. The damage is done. I'm sure I will be defending Pacquiao from charges that he wants gay people dead for years to come.

Just read some of the posts below. How many of these people will come back and read this article again and see the retraction. Not many. The Village Voice fucked this up. Bad.

So the "put to death" quote was added by the writer and was never spoken by Pacquiao. This is typical of the bullying tactics of an intolerant unevolved reprobate.  James King should apologize and be very ashamed, that is if he has any shame within himself.

of course he won't. he'll just continue the blame game. pathetic.

You guys nailed it. What can we expect from these journalist-wannabes who: 1. don't even know how to write properly and caused all these brouhaha2. don't even have the basic sense to verify what they are writing badly about before they go spouting from their behinds in their excitement(titillation) at being able to spout their gay agendas

That thing called integrity is the least concern for pathetic, journalist-wannabes like James King.

Pacquiao never said that!  The writer of the article should be sued!  Journalists are snakes!

Pacquiao did not mention Leviticus 20:13. It was that stupid Filipino writer who made it look like he did. But Pacquiao is an idiot nonetheless. He should not be commenting or criticizing the president of the free world and expousing his views against same sex marriage. Live and let live people!

Look beyond Manny, because the writer of this article is justifying his own emotions using this situation. Calling Manny a "dick" is already controversial. You are making a mockery out of Manny by focusing on what he commented on.  I suppose the only way for you to get attention on your writings is putting people down first.  Your foul language already justifies you.

The media should be put to death. They make a big deal out of opinions for their own ratings.

This is another example of IRRESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM. The writer from the Examiner, Granville Ampong, said that he and Pacquiao were misquoted. He admitted that he was the one who quoted the bible verse, NOT Pacquiao. The only thing that Pacquiao said was that he was against same-sex marriages and he is entitled to his opinion, but he NEVER said that gay men should be put to death. This blog is clearly an exaggeration. So to the writer of this blog: Before you start a smear campaign against someone that could likely ruin their reputation, get your facts straight first.

Manny need not worry.. understanding God's Word and being blessed by it entails love of God.. those who hate God or choose not to believe God do not know and do not care they are missing out on the awesome grace - God's true love, which makes those who truly believe in God at peace, joyful (even in this dying world, which is getting uglier by the day - just read the despicable words in many of the comments to this blog and replies to comments) and free (from slavery to sin).. many are blind to how sad their lives are.. i was one of them.. it's not too late to believe in God so i pray eyes be opened now for God desires for all to live life to the full and it cannot be attained from  believing everything we read on the internet or from cursing and putting down Manny Pacquiao just because.. Manny may win or even lose his next fight but he knows the truth (relationship with God NOT religion) so what matters for him and every Christian is in all things God works for the good of those who love God.. you take your stand.. do you love God?

i just abhor how closed-minded this catholic -dominated country is. we only live once, you know. give everybody a chance to be happy. i'm looking forward to the day that gay marriages will be allowed in the philippines. and as for my case, divorce too.

Fuck homosexuals they are a threat to society and are not good role models to kids, they deserve to die.

Swingguyy

Ditto! We should all emulate those like Pacquiao and the church...fuck around on our wives, have some illegitimate children, then have those children molested by church members...then claim it's the gays that are ruining our society. I wonder how long it will be before Pacquiao admits his own homosexual tendencies like the many religious zealots that have preceded

My next question to him is whether his country follows Ezekiel 18:13, regarding debt-based currency.  I already know they do not follow it.  Debt-based currency is far more important than gay people.

Dear Manny Pacquiao, the BIBLE is in GREAT DANGER in your hands! Do the Catholic Church a favor, leave the preaching to THEOLOGIANS! #scary

It's marketing strategy. With this interview, expect half of the audience on his June bout vs. Bradley to be composed of lesbians and gays booing him to the roof!

Christian here.

The Bible doesn't say that, or anything close to condemning sexuality.

I was going to make a "too many hits to the head" joke, but it's probably just as tired as this claim that conservative and/or fundamentalist Christians can't stop making.

He may be a boxing superstar, but he is still very ignorant, just like her mother Aling Dionisia. I lost my respect to this guy when he entered the political and religious arena. I hope he loses on his next fight badly.

Money can't buy Manny wisdom nor compassion. Tsk! Tsk! I'm sick of religions and bible-thumpers propagating separateness and hate against others who aren't part of their "tribe." Their sermons speak of love but their actions promote discrimination. Sigh.

Who is this man to speak for any deity? And if he claims to have conversations with this God of his... maybe he needs to be put in a small white room with pillows for a while. But then again maybe he also believes in the slavery and polygamy that can be found in the bible as well. What a jerk.

then only idiot is the low life writers trying to raise controversy.  I wonder how James King would feel if someone stuck a penis up his rear end?  Bet he wouldn't like thaat....or would he?

I think Manny is only quoting a verse in the bible and this isnt  actually his words. But maybe his interpretation of it is too literal. Also, I think i would like to see the whole article so i can give a proper opinion.  sometimes part of an interview can mean a different thing compared to reading the whole of it. let us not judge until we hear the whole of it.

What would happen if someone said that everybody that eats crustaceans should be put to death?

If it was anyone else other than God that commanded that than I would say that the person is just trying to hoarde all the crab and shrimp to himself.....I do love crustaceans :)

Pacquiao should have kept his own opinion when it comes to this kind of sensitive issues. If you think you are right, then may I ask you... Do you eat 'Dinuguan' (pigs blood)? - if not then that's good. you are following the Bible. Did you ever commit 'Adultery'. - if not then that is also good. Are you 'HOLY'? - If yes, then we should listen and follow you. - IF NOT THEN JUST KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.
