Fifty Shades of Grey: Do Dudes Even Care About E.L. James' Steamy Trilogy?

FIFTY.jpg
You have surely heard a lot about E.L. James' porny Twilight fanfic recently -- probably too much. And we're definitely doing our part to foster Fifty Shades of Grey over-saturation.

But news keeps coming out about the novels -- and reports of an alleged Fifty Shades-fueled sexual revolution simply cannot be ignored.

Just today, for example, California gynecologist/sexpert Dr. Diana Hoppe issued a statement praising the books. She explained to the Voice this afternoon: "Women's libidos have been dormant, and it's kind of awakening them."

But we haven't heard as much about what dudes think about Fifty Shades, save for an article here and there.

So the Voice hit the street this fine afternoon and asked the first 10 men who would talk to us: "How has Fifty Shades affected your sex life?"

And what did they have to say?

Student, 18: "No. But my dad read Fifty Shades of Grey. It's on my Kindle Fire. I don't think it's something he wants to talk to me about."

Exchange student, 16: "No. I've never heard of it."

Painter, 32: "Not at all. I don't know what it is."

Electrician, 46: "I haven't read it. I guess whatever it is, I'm happy about it. Just this week, I was at the beach with someone who was reading it. It was a good topic of conversation and jokes and flirting and all that stuff. I don't know if it's affected my sex life, though. I don't know what's in the book."

Bookseller, 58: "My wife hasn't read it. I haven't read it. It hasn't impacted our sex life in one way or another."

Teacher, 45: "I haven't read it. I don't know what it's about."

Registered nurse, 37: "I have heard of the title, but I haven't read it."

Lawyer, 23: [Laughs.]

(His ladyfriend then told us: "We both read it and enjoyed the books. I would be more open to doing things like going to higher end stores.")

Business owner, 34: "Pff. My wife is reading it right now. I have no idea how it's affecting our sex life. I don't know if it's impacted it at all. Maybe you should ask her."

Real estate broker, 40: "None. No impact whatsoever. I've just heard about the book."

Guys don't care about FSOG because a) guys watch porn and b) after watching porn, soft-core like FSOG is no better than watching the models on HSN. Just sayin'...

Fear turns women on. That's why S&M, a perennial favorite for secret masochists, will always be on the menu.
