Medical Marijuana: Are Kentucky and Arkansas Next?

kentz.jpg
Though Kentucky has a rep as one of the most anti-marijuana states in the country, one of the commonwealth's senators has submitted a prescription pot bill to the legislature for consideration, according to The Associated Press.

Perry Clark, a Democrat state senator from Louisville, told reporters that he wanted to start boosting the proposed measure far ahead of the next legislative session -- which begins in January -- in hopes that cancer patients could acquire the "miracle plant" ASAP.

Because of its climate, Kentucky is a major producer of pot.

It was also the center of the U.S.'s hemp industry until federal restrictions barred the crop.

Kentucky isn't the only state considering such a measure.

In Arkansas, prescription pot proponents are busy gathering signatures to get medical marijuana on the ballot in November.

According to the AP, they have until the end of the day to wrap up their petition.

Come on, KY, do the right thing! I live here in KY and was in a bad car wreck last year and it messed up my back pretty bad. Marijuana helps kill the pain, but without the addiction that one would find with painkillers such as oxycontin, vicodin, percocet, hydrocodone, methadone, and many other painkillers. It would help so many people if marijuana was legalized here. It would be a Godsend and a miracle.

Thumper you don't know what you're talking about. Law enforcement is VERY laxed on our girl Mary j. And there are towns in every state like that. So stop being a know it all and take that chip off your shoulder.

A few years ago a MAJOR federal drug bust occurred in a small county in southeastern Ky. In the following two years almost every business on Main street shut down and the sheriff lost his house to foreclosure. The drug operation was the only thing keeping the town alive.

This bill has NO CHANCE of passing in Ky. It might as well be a gesture. The idiot redneck law enforcement in this state receives far too much money for "marijuana eradication" from the Feds to ever legalize any form of cannabis period.  If 49 states legalized cannabis, Ky would still hold on to prohibition. It will be the last state to legalize(There are still numerous "dry" counties that have never repealed alcohol prohibition and ballot measures to sell alcohol routinely fail) The sad fact is it would really help the poor areas of our state. The powers that be would rather keep them addicted to pain pills and meth to guarantee they have a revenue stream and people to arrest. Kentucky is the most corrupt and backward place in the United States. Out side of the two major cities people are openly racist and everyone knows a sheriff who sells pain pills. Its a way of life here and the people getting rich will never allow it to change.
