Medical Marijuana: Feds Crack Down on California's Harborside Health Center

Federal authorities, in their ongoing campaign against California's legal cannabis corps, are now trying to shut down Harborside Health Center -- America's largest and most famous medical marijuana dispensary.

As detailed by the Los Angeles Times, the feds filed complaints for forfeiture of properties in Oakland and San Jose, where Harborside -- the subject of Weed Wars -- has set up shop. What this means: if Harborside's landlords don't give the businesses the boot, law enforcement officials might confiscate the landlords' property.

Harborside was founded in 2006 by Steve DeAngelo, a medical marijuana advocate.

Unlike other prescription potpreneurs -- who tend to keep a low profile -- he has often taken a vocal position against the federal government's drug policies.

DeAngelo told the Times in an interview Wednesday that he will fight the Justice Department's decisions "openly and in public" and push back against his landlords if they try to evict him.

As we have reported before, this isn't the first time the federal government has gone after pot shops' properties or financials -- including cash and land confiscations and targeting dispensaries' bank accounts.

Marijuana should be legal! It might lessen the addiction to far more harmful drugs, like alcohol, tobacco, crack, and meth. Marijuana is a very healthy food if taken as an edible, not smoked. There is a great $2.99 e-book on medical marijuana: MARIJUANA - Guide to Buying, Growing, Harvesting, and Making Medical Marijuana Oil and Delicious Candies to Treat Pain and Ailments by Mary Bendis, Second Edition. This book has great recipes for easy marijuana oil, delicious Cannabis Chocolates, and tasty Dragon Teeth Mints.

Good way to double dip. Get money from them paying their sales tax and then shut them down and get money from fines.

Estimates show that marijuana is America’s number one cash crop, making more money than corn and tobacco. However, marijuana remains untaxed.   Over 500 of the nation’s top economic professors from prestigious schools such as Harvard, MIT, University of Chicago and George Mason University have shared their opinion in supporting the removing the prohibition and imposing the taxation and regulation of marijuana as a way to slow the federal deficit.   Please join and sign the petition at supporting the taxation and regulation of marijuana.   When you sign up for electedface members will automatically be connected to their state legislatures, allowing users to lobby their point of view in numbers.
