Congressman Todd Akin: "Legitimate Rape" Means "Forcible Rape" -- As If There's Any Other Kind
|Attention, Todd Akin: do yourself a favor and just shut up.|
He also clarified his comments that "If it's legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut [the pregnancy] down" by claiming that by "legitimate rape" he means "forcible rape" -- something he should try to explain to a rape victim with whom we spoke this morning.
Unfortunately for Akin, who's running for Senate in Missouri against Senator Clare McCaskill, science disagrees with his belief that woman can just wish away unwanted rape babies, which forced him to step away from his moronic ramblings during an appearance on Mike Huckabee's radio show this afternoon.
"I don't know that I'm the only person in public office who suffered from foot in mouth disease here," he said. "This was a very, very serious error."
Stupidity aside, Akin went on to explain that he was talking about "forcible rape" -- as if there's any other kind.
It could be surmised from Akin's initial bumblings that he doesn't consider "date rape," less-than-consensual sex, or anything short of a guy jumping out of the bushes and forcing his penis into a woman at knife point as rape.
Despite his stupid comments, Akin says he will not abandon his senatorial campaign.
"On the other hand, there are so many good people in Missouri who nominated me," he added. "I feel just as strongly as ever that my background and ability will be a big asset in replacing [Sen.] Clare McCaskill and putting some sanity back in our government. I'm not a quitter, and my belief is we're going to take this thing forward, and by the grace of God we're going to win this race."
That said, if the guy who thinks woman can end pregnancies by simply wishing them away is the guy who bring "sanity" to government, we're all fucked.
