Timothy Morehouse and Beezie Madden

We finish up our spotlight of New York Olympians in fencing with a star in the sport and introduce an equally legendary Olympian in equestrian. Both of these Olympians have raised the profile of their individual sports and have scored previous silver and bronze Olympic victories.

Name: Timothy Morehouse

Age: 34

Olympic Event: Fencing

Hometown: New York, NY

A rock star in the fencing world, Timothy Morehouse is credited by many as the face of the sport. The credit is well deserved, as Morehouse has earned a Silver medal in Men's Saber at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, is an eight-time US National Team member and has won seven Pan American titles. The Teach For America alum is the author of American Fencer: Modern Lessons and from an Ancient Sport , founded the Fencing Masters Tournament and in 2011 created the non-profit Fencing In the Schools Foundation. The summer games mark Morehouse's third time competing at the Olympics.

Name: Beezie Madden

Age: 48

Olympic Event: Equestrian

Hometown: Cazenovia, NY

Born Elizabeth but nicknamed "Beezie" after her great-grandmother, Beezie Madden has been riding horses since the age of three. Madden's parents, who owned show horses, encouraged her to begin riding competitively at a young age and during her junior year of high school she participated in the Florida show jumping circuit. The summer games are Madden's third time at the Olympics; she was victorious at both the 2008 and 2004 games. While she is hopeful for a third medal win it won't be easy without her beloved horse Authentic, who had to be retired to Madden's home in Cazenoivia, NY due to a tendon injury. Madden has broke many barriers for women in the sport, becoming the first woman to earn more than $1 million in show jumpings and in 2004 she was the first woman and first American rider to reach the Top Three In the Show Jumping world-ranking list.

Check back tomorrow when we get to know more about a rookie and a veteran in the equestrian show jumping scene.
