New Jersey Lawmaker Proposes Assisted Suicide Bill

Under Assemblyman John Burzichelli Death with Dignity Act, doctors would be allowed to proved terminally ill patients who have less than six months to live a lethal dose of drugs that would end the person's life.
The drugs would be self-administered.
Needless to say, it's pretty controversial.
Under the law, the person would have to be of "sound mind" when making the request to end their own life, and would require a 15 day waiting period between when the request to die is made and when a doctor hands over the drugs.
Following the initial request, the patient would need to make an additional verbal request and also one in writing. That request would have to be signed by two witnesses not associated with the patient's end of life finances.
"People don't make these choices haphazardly and they don't make them in thousands and thousands of numbers," Burzichelli said during an interview with 1010 WINS. "People should have the right, in my opinion, to control their body. This is a matter of personal conscience, a matter of personal faith, and a matter of personal choice."
Similar laws are on the books in Washington and Oregon.
