This Is What Happens When You Screw With Central Park Carriage Horses

grossman.jpg
Andrew Grossberg

The man pictured above is Andrew Grossberg, and his face is what happens when you screw with carriage horses -- and their handlers -- in Central Park.

Grossberg says he was attacked last month in Central Park after he and other anti-carriage horse advocates hassled a horse and a carriage driver. Admittedly, Grossberg made comments to the driver and then tried to take a photo of the carriage's license plate.

"The next thing I knew is I was being beaten severely and I could not even stand up to escape from the brutal beating of a deranged horse and carriage driver," he says. "Left for dead on the sidewalk outside of Central Park, I woke up in New York Presbyterian emergency room with a fractured nose (broken in two places), a concussion, a heavy bruise to my jaw, and pain radiating all over my body."

That's his side of the story, anyway.

Following the August 25 incident, Steve Malone, the president of the Horse Carriage Association -- the union that represents horse carriage drivers -- told the Voice that Grossberg and another woman were the aggressors.

According to Malone, at about 9:30 p.m. on the night of the incident, the two activists -- Grossberg and a woman -- followed a driver through Central Park harassing him. At the end of the ride, Malone says the man punched the carriage driver in the face -- apparently for nothing more than guiding a horse through the park. Malone says these types of incidents often go unpunished (which, we learned, is far from the case). He says his group has no problem with protesters, but that they "step over the line" when they get physical.

The driver of the carriage who allegedly beat Grossberg is Emin Karsavuran, whom the Coalition to Ban Horse Drawn Carriages says "reacted in an extremely hostile manner" towards activists who also were hassling him just days before the alleged attack on Grossberg. Nobody was attacked in that incident, the group says.

Moral of the story: If you mess with horses in Central Park, there's a good chance you'll end up with a mangled face.

I think the tone of this article is all wrong, like..  "If you mess with horse's you will get this" And really says nothing about the way the horses are abused, kept in awful stables, and generally have a miserable life. It also makes it seem like the guy messed with the horse, not the violent, idiot exploiting the horse.

The people doing this know there days are numbered, that is why this jerk would have such a reaction.. he is running scared. I hope the guy with the bloody face sues the hell out of the jerk who beat him... Just imagine how this violent jerk treats his horse.

That is truly shocking. I will post this all over the UK on fb and other social media sites telling people traveling to New York to steer clear of the carriage horses.

I hope the person responsible for this is severely punished.

One cannot help wonder how he treats his horse if this is an indication of his aggressive and violent nature.

The carriage drivers are very violent! I've seen them punch protesters in the face, intimidate people, get in their faces, threaten them, curse at them, and use homophobic/racist/sexist slurs. A carriage driver named Ian McKeever once WHIPPED a woman. He's also thrown horse shit at protesters. Many of these incidents go undocumented because the police hardly respond and when they do, the carriage driver who assaulted someone has already left.

If Eva has video as she says she does, she will have to turn it over to the other side anyway.

At a hearing at City Council a few years ago, where people were offering testimony for a bill to ban horse drawn carriages in New York, one woman testified that she had gone up to one of the carriages and was in the process of writing down the carriage's license number, when the driver turned around and hit her with his whip. This was a middle aged woman, and did not look like the type to start a physical fight with one of the drivers, she was merely copying down his license number. I have my own experience with drivers and carriage owners. At one of the hearings, a woman who was testifying in favor of a ban got into an argument with one of the owners, who happened to be a woman. After the argument, the woman who was there to testify for a ban was facing front listening to testimony from other people. The carriage owner came up in back of her, with a couple of her colleagues, and was acting in a threatening manner. I stared at her and she saw me. I wanted her to know that I would see anything that she did. After a minute she left, but she had walked up very close behind the woman she had been arguing with. At another hearing, the same woman and her colleagues were mocking and harassing myself and other women who were there to testify for a ban. My point is, I am not at all surprised to hear that the man was beaten by a carriage driver. I have known some of the carriage drivers to act in a threatening manner to the activists.

So the Voice is endorsing brutal violence?  You guys really are scumbags. I guess I shouldn't be surprised at people who make money from child prostitution and trafficking of women.

Some of the drivers have temper tantrums and angry outbursts, where they curse and shot the finger at people. Check out this video I just posted to YouTube, originally filmed on 21 Aug 2012 : http://youtu.be/xxpN0yxhQn4

What Andrew Grossberg fails to mention is that he was BLOTTO drunk, and stalked/harassed a carriage driver through half of a ride in the Park, verbally abusing him and his passengers.  At the end of the ride, Andrew hit the driver, and the driver hit him back.

We have it all on video.

So, Mr. Grossberg, you had better be ready for some rough waters in your 15 minutes of fame, and I hope your lawyer can explain away what is plain on the video for all to see.

 @Horsesneedhomes Yes she did, Roxanne Delgado received those summonses in March 2013, BEFORE she was arrested for assault this summer.  She's a very busy, disturbed bee.

 @geemisscrabtree Eva, Everything you say is money-motivated. You are an angry, miserable person. You're a coward to exploit innocent animals. Shame on everything you stand for.

 @geemisscrabtree Why was the horse and carriage driver arrested with no injuries and Grossberg was NOT arrested and sustained major injuries?Everyone else in this comment section is posting videos, why can't you post the one you cite to?"you had better be ready for some rough waters in your 15 minutes of fame" It sounds like you are threatening Andrew Grossberg Eva Hughes. I hope he reads this and gets a restraining order against you. You sound disgusting and nasty.

There are individuals in the horse carriage industry who engaged in marriage fraud, gained their U.S. Green Cards, and getting their U.S. Citizenships soon. What a beatiful Country! There is one individual among them, who introduced all of them with the marriage fraud crime network. What a free Country! But freedom is not free, these scams should be picked by the authorities soon.

@MichaleenFlynn @BauervanStraten Is that so? Post the video.

 @geemisscrabtree I hope there is video of this rabid person's assault on working driver.   The driver should sue her as well for any medical bills and  loss of work.  Did she pay her fines for those summonses?

geemisscrabtree
geemisscrabtree

 @HorseLove Nice try, but, um, no.

We are saving the video for the trial; a clip of it was already aired on local news when this occurred.  Anyone with a brain would know that the 'rough waters' statement refers to Grossberg's lying being proven in the video.

All my statements have been vetted, please do save them, and refer to them when this all comes out in the wash.  Then I will accept your apology.

BTW - ask Andrew how drunk he was that night, and how long he stalked the carriage through the Park.

@TameTheDrew Why would I post the video? It's being saved 4 court. Told you that when you friended me on FB, remember? ;^)

@TameTheDrew @MichaleenFlynn Yeah, where is this video? Drew was sent to the hospital, not the driver. I'm gonna be prayin fo ya soul.

 @Horsesneedhomes  @geemisscrabtree

 Yes, where is the video, witness and/or evidence that the activist assaulted the driver? The "rabid person" certainly has evidence of assault. I hope the injured man sues the pants off of the driver. His reaction was entirely unreasonable, "rabid" even.

kathy.burke
kathy.burke

 @geemisscrabtree  @HorseLove

 I did read your post. Why would you not post the video if you did in fact have one? Why would you "save it"? If it exists it will eventually come out, so why not just put this all to rest and post it? I think we all know why. *wink* I mean, how would the driver have recorded a video while he was pummeling Mr. Greenberg? And if Mr Greenberg threw the first punch as you claim, the carriage driver must have come down off of the carriage and afronted Mr. Greenberg. What exactly is the story?

kathy.burke
kathy.burke

 @geemisscrabtree  @HorseLove

 Regardless of whether the man was or wasn't drunk, regardless of whether he "stalked" and/or "harrassed" the driver, it does NOT give the driver the right to physically assault the man. That's not MY opinion...it's the LAW.

HorseLove

 @geemisscrabtree  @Horsesneedhomes Eva, what are you on right now? I think you need to go lay in bed and just go to sleep. You're obviously not well, you're not making any sense, no trial has been set, every time you're asked about the video your story changes, and I don't think you realize you're actually typing on a computer. Stop embarrassing yourself. I figure you're about two bricks shy of load about now. O_o

HorseLove

 @Horsesneedhomes  @geemisscrabtree What is this video going to show? Andrew NOT getting beat up by the driver? I think the pics are evidence enough. That's way more than one hit! And does his lawyer know you're harassing Grossberg for all us to see. :)

Horsesneedhomes

 @geemisscrabtree  @HorseLove You should send your video to the press immediately and prove the driver's innocence before his name is maligned longer.  A rose may smell just as sweet but a man only has his one name.

HorseLove
HorseLove

 @geemisscrabtree Half a brain? For someone who is so self righteous you harbor a lot of anger. And your comment is definitely a threat, harassment in the least. Who cares if he was drunk, that's not illegal, 3rd degree assault is however. Andrew (innocent protester)=Not Arrested/ Emin Karsavuran (carriage driver)=Arrested. Sorry Eva, you're not getting an apology from me. I think if you had a lawyer he'd tell you to shut up about now.

@MsLettieMae @MichaleenFlynn Thanks Lettie. Ur right. And if he had this so called video why not post it? Ignore them, they're monsters.
