Animal Rights Activists Exploit "Illegals" in Central Park Horse-Carriage War

As we've chronicled, there is a war going on between the labor union that represents Central Park horse-carriage drivers and animal rights activists who think keeping horses in midtown Manhattan is dangerous and inhumane.

Now the activists are using illegal immigrants as PR ammo against the union.

The Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages sent us an e-mail this morning with the subject line "Illegals in Horse Carriage Trade." In the e-mail, the group outlines how the union employs illegal immigrants, one of whom "foolishly lied about an animal activist, Roxanne Delgado, attacking him at the hack line."

The group says another "illegal" was picked up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers about six weeks prior.

"Allegedly spurred on by Stephen Malone, President of the Horse & Carriage Association of NYC, and Demos Demopoulous, Teamster Union representative Rojas stuck his neck out, probably never thinking he was going to get outed," the group says. "Perhaps he thought that nothing would happen because the administration appears to have the back of the carriage trade, ignoring their many violations."

The group goes on to say that "illegals" "operate in a world of entitlement because the Administration and all agencies that oversee them look the other way."

"What good is a law against illegal immigration -- especially those who have criminal records -- if one of the city agencies ignores it? What good are rules and regulations over the carriage trade if they are rarely enforced," the group asks.

It might come as a shock to the animal rights activists, but "illegals" are human beings -- and they're not all criminals. The vast majority of them come to the U.S. to try and better themselves by working crappy jobs for low pay -- like shoveling shit at a horse stable.

Illegal immigration is a serious problem in this country, and it's one that animal rights activists apparently want to solve -- right after they tackle America's ongoing horse-carriage problem, that is.

Eva Hughes, representative of Horse Drawn carriages and in alliance with Teamster local 553, you have been advised several times here and elsewhere of slander and the repercussions.  You chose to deliberately ignore them.

slander n. oral defamation, in which someone tells one or more persons an untruth about another which untruth will harm the reputation of the person defamed. Slander is a civil wrong (tort) and can be the basis for a lawsuit. Damages (payoff for worth) for slander may be limited to actual (special) damages unless there is malicious intent, since such damages are usually difficult to specify and harder to prove. Some statements such as an untrue accusation of having committed a crime, having a loathsome disease, or being unable to perform one's occupation are treated as slander per se since the harm and malice are obvious, and therefore usually result in general and even punitive damage recovery by the person harmed. Words spoken over the air on television or radio are treated as libel (written defamation) and not slander on the theory that broadcasting reaches a large audience as much if not more than printed publications.

One person listening.  Typical loser chained to her computer eating non stopped.  Knowing that this person is so miserable with nothing better to do on a friday evening is some consolation for all her abuse.  Sometimes all the evil and hate starts reflecting on the outside and this person looks the part.  Karma is real, just ask Jesus.

So please color me confused. Pun intended. Since when does Roxanne Delgado's physical assault that was witnessed and documented matter less because of the drivers immigration status ?   From the context written above it would appear that this group "?" run by Elizabeth Forel (who from a little google search works for New Yorks Housing Authority ) Is condoning the physical attack upon that man because he was an immigrant ? Does the housing Authority know that one of their own is condoning physical violence as long as it was directed at an immigrant ? Or is she condoning physical violence because he was a carriage driver ?

To everyone reading this article - ask yourself this:  HOW did these animal rights activists KNOW that Jesus was arrested?

Isn't also interesting that he was arrested before Roxanne Delgado's court appearance for assaulting him?

This: "In the e-mail, the group outlines how the union employs illegal immigrants, one of whom 'foolishly lied about an animal activist, Roxanne Delgado, attacking him at the hack line.'" is the lie. The attack was documented.

And Ms. Forel, you are the one that needs to get over yourself. I get that you’re upset that NYCLASS is stealing your thunder and that you may want to distance yourself from it, and, really, I can’t blame you, but as you well know this debate has NOTHING to do with the animals – it’s all about money and real estate. As you yourself have said: ““The hand writing is on the wall. When this industry goes down, it may well be because of the Hudson Yards/Hells Kitchen real estate development project that will wipe out two stables. And then move uptown to take the others. Manhattan real estate is very valuable and many developers have their eyes on the redevelopment of the far west side. You can rant at NY Class and the ASPCA all you want – but you can’t stop this kind of progress.” (link on file)

Mr. King:  You really need to get over  yourself and consider doing some real journalism.   So far, you have misinterpreted us twice for a the sake of a "sensational" story.  BTW - i just deleted your e-mail address.  You are on your own now.  A real ethical writer does not kick a "gift horse" in the teeth.  An ethical and smart journalist does his own research and gets it right.

But if you are not going to do your own research, then at least get the story correct.   We did not say this:   "illegals" "operate in a world of entitlement because the Administration and all agencies that oversee them look the other way."

But we did say this:  “They operate in a world of entitlement because the Administration and all agencies that oversee them look the other way.  No one is minding the store.  “ – referring to the carriage trade as a whole.  The proof is the many violations that have been documented but unpunished.

I care about this - don't you?   I like to think that my city enforces the laws equally.

http://banhdc.org/vid.shtml

We also did not say the union employs illegal immigrants – it is the carriage trade that does.  Please  - if you are going to put yourself out there – get your story right.

And btw – I would put the tissue box down.   These  men are not “shoveling shit ” as you say for dramatic effect.    They are driving carriages.  They commit violations while driving their carriages, often hurting the horses  and the city looks the other way.  This might be OK with you as you turn the other way - but it is not OK with us and it should not be for any law abiding citizen.   So it sounds like you are saying that just because someone is illegal - an undocumented worker - maybe on an expired student visa - or maybe something else  - and that because you feel sorry for him because you see it as the "cool" and "progressive" thing to do, then it is OK for him to continuously break the law?    It is OK for him to go to Times Square before the law allows him; to double shift his horse, to overload his carriage.  It is OK all because he is here illegally  - and those bad animal rights people who said this only care about the horses  - and you feel guilty.  Sorry but it is just not that simple.

Our concern and reference here is not about the hard working undocumented workers who are doing jobs that no one else wants to do simply to help their families.   I feel for them and I realize that it is a difficult problem that needs a fair and just  resolution.  Most of them would be very careful about breaking the law.  They do not want to call attention to themselves because they would get in a lot of trouble.

No, sir,  our concern is about how this trade gets away with breaking the law.  And our concern has always been about the horses.

It is not OK to support a business  that continues to violate the law with abandon, hurting the horses  - whether from double shifting; overloading their carriages, overcharging on the street and through their web sites.

And it is not OK to twist what we say into something that sounds like it it anti-immigrant.  All of us are from immigrants.  But we are anti-carriage horse business.  I hope that is clear enough for you.  Do I have to say "read my lips?"

And  also it is not OK to support a business  that is cash only - when no one, including the Department of Consumer Affairs really knows how much they bring to the city - or how much they pay in taxes.  Taxi drivers - many of them immigrants - have to account for every penny.    Is it fair to them?

And as much as you want to believe this to make you feel comfortable with your preconceived ideas - Carriage drivers  are not poor blue collar workers.

So because they are illegals, the laws shouldn't be enforced?  i don't understand Mr. King's logic

@ElizabethForel You use propaganda loaded words like 'illegals' knowing that they inspire nothing but hate.    You know exactly what you said, so your attempt to spin it here is transparent and insulting .   The rest of us are not stupid.    Humanity is humanity..to all creatures...especially the defenseless and unprotected of ANY species.          You are an embarrassment to your cause.

Causing even more suffering.

@LiveandWell  @HeatherSmith Roxanne, how many screennames are you going to make up?

Are you saying that you DIDN'T kick Jesus?

Why then did NYCLASS photoshop you out of their group photo from that day?  Why did they remove your picture from every one of their photo albums?

Thank you for demonstrating the level of discourse the carriage folks must endure from the RARAs.

Ad hominems, misogynist attacks, unfounded accusations -- everything but rational debate..  I am perfectly fine with being the target so that you all can be exposed for what you are.

You are simply unable to compete in the arena of ideas or debate.

@rockclimber  @geemisscrabtree  @LiveandWell OH give it a rest. Your god complex is going to leave a mark. Do you really think during an open case ANYONE would post evidence publicly.  It must have really stung when NYCLASS photo shopped you out of their pictures after your arrest.

@geemisscrabtree  @LiveandWell  @HeatherSmith Racist Eva Hughes making her rounds all over the internet spewing her slander.  Eventually she will have to answer for her harassment.  Where is the video or photos?  There is none and she is  quite aware of this fact but continues to post slander.  Eva Hughes, VP of the horse carriage association in NYC in alliance with Teamster local 553.

Why don't you prove to  the whole web the truth- post your evidence.  There is none and the out of state supporters will always have to answer for their reiterating your slander and harassment.  You went over the line Eva and you will be held accountable for your slander and harassment.
