Cuomo Will Stump for Obama, but Remember, He's Not Running for President in 2016

It's no question by now that

Governor Andrew Cuomo tends to get nonstop flack from the nonstop speculating press about his chances of running for president in four years. It happened when he was elected, it happened after he passed the marriage equality bill in New York, it happened when he spoke at the DNC in September, and it happened again yesterday. But this time around, he's really telling everyone to back off and leave him be.

In a radio interview with Albany's WGDJ-AM, the governor announced that, per request from the campaign, he would be traveling across the country to stump for President Obama. "I'll do whatever they ask me to do," he said, and, according to The New York Times, Cuomo doesn't get out (of New York) much.

This, of course, is due to his fear of presidential speculation: "But I don't want to step over a line that could fuel potential speculation of, 'Well, Cuomo's looking to run in 2016,' you know?"

Whoever denied it, supplied it, Mr. Governor.

As of now, the governor told the radio station that he has no idea where the campaign is sending him, even though it will most likely be the swing states (think Florida, Virginia, Iowa, somewhere that is not New York). We'll check it with his stump speeches after he has given them.

And don't forget that Cuomo hung out with Obama and Romney last night at the Waldorf-Astoria for the annual Alfred E. Smith Foundation Dinner. So maybe he's leaving the state with the president himself and talking about presidential things on Air Force One.

But continuing on that notion of it's-not-political-I-swear, the governor had some harsh logic to drop on speculators:

"If you politicize me, you cast aspersion on my motivations and intentions; you suggest I have my own political agenda for doing things; you're going to hurt my capacity to serve as governor. And I just won't allow that to happen."

Damn. All right. We'll leave you alone. Sorry. We'll be in this corner if you need us.
