Sad news to report as New Yorkers continue to deal with the wake of destruction left by Hurricane Sandy: the bodies of two missing Staten Island boys have been recovered.

Authorities say this afternoon that the bodies of the two boys -- Connor Moore, 4, and Brandon Moore, 2 -- were recovered this morning just 20 yards from each other.

The two boys and their mother, Glenda Moore, a nurse at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, tried to flee the storm Monday by leaving their Great Kills home and heading to Brooklyn in the family's Ford Explorer.

The vehicle stalled on the flood-ravaged Father Capodanno Boulevard in South Beach, just a few miles from their home.

Glenda Moore and the boys exited the vehicle to try and find help. But the water was too strong, and Brandon was swept away by the rushing flood. Shortly after, Connor, too, was swept away by the flood.

Glenda Moore reportedly spent the rest of the night knocking on doors in the neighborhood looking for her boys. They were found following an exhaustive rescue effort at about 10:30 this morning.

The death toll from Hurricane Sandy currently stands at 76, including 24 in New York City.
