MTA: L Train Back in Action, 14th Street Tube Dry

"L trains resumed through the 14th Street tube at 3 p.m. with 10-minute headways returning service to stations from Eighth Avenue to Broadway Junction," the MTA announced moments ago.
The L is one of the busiest subway lines in the city. It connects Brooklyn neighborhoods like Williamsburg, East New York, Bushwick, and Canarsie to Manhattan.
Following last week's hurricane, the 14th Street tube was flooded with 15 feet of water for its entire length of 3,400 feet. MTA crews have been working tirelessly to drain the tube ever since.

"We continue to progress toward the complete restoration of service and will continue to do so incrementally, but only when it's safe and doesn't overcharge the system," said MTA Chairman and CEO Joseph Lhota says. "However, much work remains to restore service in the Rockaways and along the Sea Beach Line in Brooklyn, which were devastated by Hurricane Sandy."
The MTA says the A line in the Rockaways suffered "extensive damage." As did the Sea Beach Line on the N from Eighth Avenue to Coney Island. There is no timetable for when those lines will be reopened.
