Young Woman Sexually Assaulted in Upper West Side Apartment Elevator

Police are searching for help to capture a suspect accused of sexually assaulting a 27-year-old woman in her Upper West Side apartment elevator.

Early Tuesday morning around 2:30 a.m., the victim was just returning to her apartment. She was being followed. A young, fit Hispanic male with dark hair, about 5-foot-9 and between 150 and 170 pounds, trailed her through the lobby and to the elevator. He was relatively well-dressed, in a grey button-up shirt with a white collar, blue jeans and black shoes. When the elevator doors opened, they both stepped inside, alone. That's when he attacked.

According to the victim, the suspect sexually assaulted her. NYPD told the Voice that the woman wasn't raped, but touched forcefully for the duration of the elevator ride. When the doors opened, the suspect then fled on foot, leaving the woman in the lift.

Surveillance cameras caught the suspect walking briskly away after the event. In addition to his outfit, he was described as wearing a brown, beaded necklace. Anyone with any knowledge of the crime should call the Crime Stoppers anonymous hotline, 1 (800) 577-TIPS, or visit
