Gowanus Dolphin Finally Dies; Here's the Heart-Wrenching Video

Yesterday, Greg Howard reported on an injured dolphin that was trapped in the filthy waters of Brooklyn's Gowanus Canal, attracting crowds of spectators to the vicinity of the Union Street Bridge in the maritime industrial neighborhood just west of Park Slope.
Runnin' Scared provided updates throughout the afternoon, while it still looked as if there were a chance of saving the marine mammal. Representatives of the Riverhead Foundation and the NYPD Harbor and Emergency Service tried to develop a successful rescue strategy as the animal paddled slowly through the canal, surfacing occasionally and clearly in distress. Eventually, it began losing blood after colliding underwater with one of the piers.
The dolphin was first spotted around 9:30 a.m. It stopped moving around 5:30 p.m., according to a piece in Business Insider. A necropsy (animal autopsy) may be pending.
