"Day of Resistance" and The Case of The Rightbloggers Who Didn't Bark

tomt200.jpgDid you miss the Day of Resistance? Don't even know what it is? Well, it was a tea-party style throwdown last Saturday, in which thousands of your fellow citizens went packing in public to give Kenyan Pretender Obama the old cold-dead-hands salute.

You might expect our friends the rightbloggers would have something to say about it. A bunch of them did, before it took place, and at great and amusing length. But when the guns came out, they went suspiciously quiet.

This isn't the first such national rally in recent days; you may have missed "Gun Appreciation Day," held on January 19, just in advance of the Presidential Inauguration, to let Obama know how many armed opponents he had in the hinterlands. (Gun Appreciation Day was presumably timed to issue a similar warning to NASCAR drivers or Oscar nominees.)

Flush with that success, Gun Appreciation Day organizer Larry Ward endorsed the upcoming Day of Resistance. "Despite the clear message that the American people sent on Gun Appreciation Day, President Obama is still having a hard time understanding what 'shall not be infringed' means," Ward told Newsmax. "We'll use the same successful organizational and marketing tactics that brought Gun Appreciation Day to the forefront of public discussion to bolster the Day of Resistance."

"Gun Appreciation Day caught moonbats by surprise last Saturday," wrote Moonbattery. "Unfortunately, it also caught many patriots by surprise; if more people had known about it, and had known that the sleeping giant is waking up again, attendance would have been still larger -- as it will surely be," he added hopefully, "for the Day of Resistance rallies planned for one month from today."

This seems to follow the Tea Party formula, which began with small rallies that grew with each iteration until the phenomenon wound down. In fact the Day of Resistance site was sponsored by Stop the Insanity, aka TheTeaParty.net, which greeted visitors with a request for their names, email addresses, and zip codes, probably for use in further insurrectionary emails.

The event got early publicity from several of our traditional subjects. Susan Duclos of Wake Up America gave a heads-up; "The tea parties tapered off," said Donald Douglas of American Power, "but now we may be having Second Amendment parties"; "if the Rabbit People are frightened over the exposure of a single fake book reviewer, this announcement of a large scale public protest by gun owners should have them seriously popping pellets," cheered Vox Day.

If we and the British had these at Yorktown, the Indians could have just walked over our corpses and taken this country back.
"From the response that we've been getting we believe this is actually going to be larger than the Tea Party wave in 2009," organizer Dustin Stockton told the Guardian. Breitbart.com's Matthew Boyle pimped the event ("Stockton hopes these new rallies can begin to rekindle the 2010 conservative magic"),

In addition to the opportunity to demonstrate their gun rights, the DoR website let patriots know this was also an opportunity to invest in a "Day of Resistance Silver Coin." "As people begin assembling to assert their right to keep and bear arms," read the press release, "you can almost feel that buzz of revolution, reminiscent of the early 2009 Tea Party days. The 'Day of Resistance' as it has been named, even has their own investment-grade silver coin. Minted in partnership with Texas-based Coins for the Cause, https://dayofresistancecoin.com (the website where they are being sold) claims to 'encourage those who have lost faith in their government to "stack silver" as a form of resistance against the constant intrusions by their federal government.'"

In a "Why Silver?" section of the shop, Day of Resistance further explained, "While the government is making a grab for our guns, they have already taken away our gold and silver (by leaving the silver standard for our current, fiat, debt-based currency). Owning physical silver is a form of protest and resistance to the paper system that has been forced on us for so long."

To illustrate their point, the DoR people offered a video in which one Chris Duane told viewers to look ahead to a future "global destruction of paper currency" which he said would lead to a new Dark Ages. "90% of your money will towards food and fuel," he said. "...most will not be able to make this transition and unfortunately will die, and that is before wars, riots, and violence take even more people down," etc. Duane acknowledged that silver is not currently used as money, but "I believe that with the mathematically inevitable collapse of the worldwide currencies, this new monetary demand will push silver through the sky... all of humanity will be crying out for real money as they try to recover from the fiat something-for-nothing dream."

At TownHall John Hawkins told us "5 Reasons 2/23/2013 is Going to Be a Day of Resistance," among them, "The Democrats want to take our guns away," and "Less than three years after the worst defeat they've suffered in fifty years, the Democrats are acting like the whole country has become another San Francisco."

Hawkins' #1 reason: "Barack Obama feels empowered: Liberals are always vulgar in defeat and hubristic in victory, but Barack Obama has become so toweringly arrogant that it wouldn't be a surprise if he were getting himself fitted for a crown. He's acting as if he expects to have anything and everything he wants handed to him on a silver platter and if anything gets in his way, he'll simply shred the Constitution, ignore the law, or issue an executive order and dare the Republican Party to do something about it." No citations, alas.

"We need resistance every day, but this is a good start," said Gina Miller at Renew America. She applauded efforts to "combat the lawless Barack Obama (or whatever his name is)" and promised, "This is the start of our civil disobedience. Hopefully many more states and local sheriffs will step up to thwart the unconstitutional federal attempts at a massive un-American gun grab, but where they don't, the people themselves must stand against this illegal move."

Miller admitted that was "a scary prospect, because none of us want to be at odds with our own federal government" -- yeah, we rolled our eyes too -- but necessary, because "where do we finally draw the line after so much lawlessness has already emanated from this diabolical commie in the White House and his fellow travelers in the administration and Congress?"

Miller also informed us that "non-Defense Department federal agencies have been planning ahead, snapping up billions of bullets, as well as thousands of guns, without explaining why they would need this amount of firepower here in our own country, other than to say it's for 'training purposes.'" This is such bullshit that even Instapundit's Glenn Reynolds has refuted it (after spreading it). But it's also been disseminated by WorldNetDaily, American Thinker, and other such outlets.

As part of their minority outreach, people of the gun also delivered a video with Harry C. Alford, CEO of the Black Chamber of Commerce, who told us that "the National Rifle Association was started, founded by religious leaders, who wanted to protect freed slaves from the Ku Klux Klan... many of us wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the NRA. "You'll never learned this in BLACK HISTORY MONTH!...#DayOfResistance" tweeted Chris Denhart.

Elsewhere, black Tea Party fave Lloyd Marcus explained that the Day of Resistance was not just about guns: "Perhaps the reason why Lot's wife looked back while leaving the doomed city is because she had begun believing that homosexuality was normal -- maybe God and her husband were out of touch with the times," he wrote. "...I am witnessing such a scenario among folks I once respected as rock-solid conservatives. Since the re-election of Obama, far too many folks on our side are willing to compromise basic foundational conservative principles, thinking it will win them coveted low-info voters. This is why events such as the Day of Resistance are so important."

If the brethren needed more encouragement, TV talker Stan Solomon announced that gun-grabber-in-chief Obama and his Administration planned to "put together a racial force to go against an opposite race resistance, basically a black force to go against a white resistance, and then they will claim anyone resisting the black force they are doing it because they are racist." His guest, Gun Owners of America president Larry Pratt, told Obama through the camera that if he "starts playing the massacre game the way you did at Waco, well, you're going to get surrounded, you won't be able to go home safely, your family won't be safe."
