Nancy Gonzalez, Federal Prison Guard, Busted for Sex With Convicted Cop Killer, Ronell Wilson
A female officer in a Brooklyn federal holding facility repeatedly had sex in the jail with a convicted cop killer and actually got pregnant by him, and had an affair with a second inmate while she was pregnant, federal prosecutors said today.
The affair between the inmate, Ronell Wilson, and the guard, Nancy Gonzalez, took place over the four months between April and August of last year in the Metropolitan Detention Center. Other inmates evidently dropped a dime on their affair.
Wilson was convicted of murder in the shooting deaths of detectives Rodney Andrew and James Nemorin on Staten Island on March 10, 2003.
Gonzalez would pretend to do her rounds, but instead bring Wilson to a vacant activity room where they would fool around. One inmate allegedly saw her paramour exposing his junk to Gonzalez. When they learned of the alleged affair, the feds set up video cameras and recorded Gonzalez flirting with the inmate. She reported that she was pregnant that June during the period she was involved with Wilson.
The feds also learned that Gonzalez subsequently fooled around with another inmate at MDC who is now incarcerated in a state prison, after she learned she was pregnant. On Dec. 20, in a phone conversation secretly recording by the feds, she admitted to this second inmate that she was pregnant by Wilson.
"There was an inmate there that for whatever reason, I took a chance because I was so vulnerable and wanted to be loved and now I am carrying his child," she told the inmate, according to federal prosecutors. "I kind of got sucked into his world." She added that she "felt like, well, why not give him a child as far as giving him some kind of hope."
She went on: "I just basically got wrapped up in something that I should not have got wrapped up. I should have taken a different approach and really seen it as . . . you know . . . I had more of a better outcome . . . to try something with you and still probably would have had my job, you know what I mean than getting myself up with someone that is so high profile that when he farts it makes the news."
In another conversation with the unnamed inmate, she said, "I can't explain it. I know what's to come. I know what is going to be said about me. I know that for me as a parent, how am I going to explain this to this little boy? Mommy was in the military, Mommy was a C.O., Mommy got wrapped up. . . . And then the opposite end is with a person who took lives."
Gonzalez was arraigned today in federal court in Brooklyn. She faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
