"People hate soccer in America. That's like, the only challenge we have."

On Sunday, we asked U.S. soccer supporters of all stripes about their life watching a game the rest of the world calls football, but if you call it that here, you're met with confusion at best and derision at worst. And that's just its name.

That said, the U.S. defeated Turkey 2-1 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, in front of record crowd of more than 26,000 fans -- including what looked like a few hundred bros from the frat in Neighbors, who chanted "U-S-A! U-S-A!" in waves throughout the day, fueled by Coors Light and patriotism.

Before that though, we skimmed along the psyche of the American soccer fan and were met with descriptions like "tragic," "frustrating," and finally, "we're not as good as other countries." That underdog status may serve U.S. fans well as they watch from New York barstools the team's three games in the Group of Death (Ghana, Portugal and Germany) later this month during World Cup in Brazil.

All that negativity (and shaky American defending) aside, there was this excellent finish by Fabian Johnson off a perfectly weighted pass by Michael Bradley:

The World Cup starts June 12. Start following @usasoccerguy now.
