James Franco Exhibit at Clocktower Gallery Leaves Us Thinking, "What Can't This Guy Do?"

We came to know him as an actor (Milk, Pineapple Express, Knocked Up, and soon, Eat, Pray, Love), then, as a brainy student (New York University, Columbia, Brooklyn College, Yale, and the Rhode Island School of Design). Now he's created his first solo art exhibit, The Dangerous Book Four Boys, a huge mixed-media experience supported by a high level of work and thought -- and carpentry. James Franco's ethos seems to be "Go big or go home, and look great doing it."

Update: MTA "Fixes" One Problem, Creates Another -- and So It Goes

As of yesterday, the MTA planned to lay off two bus drivers currently at war in Iraq and Afghanistan. In a humanitarian move, perhaps realizing that the stress of war need not be coupled with the stress of job loss -- or that they would be getting some very bad publicity -- the MTA changed its mind, the Daily News reported today. Now, the MTA plans to preserve the jobs of the two men at war, but to take away the jobs of two others as replacement. We know the budget gap is huge, but this just sounds mean.

Wonkette recently posited the question of whether the former vice presidential candidate did or didn't buy herself "a couple of luxury items," based on a certain white tee Palin was wearing and a photo comparison of that with other non-white zippy-uppy shirts she's worn previously. (We do have to say...she's looking a little more luscious in the white -- see for yourself after the jump -- but there's also a low-cut U in effect, and that can draw the eye, as you all know.)

A 48-Word Review of 48 Hour Magazine

48 Hour Magazine's Issue Zero, an experiment, was conceived by a small team of editors in San Francisco. One day, they announced the theme of the book -- "Hustle" -- and waited as 1,500 submissions poured in to team headquarters at the Mother Jones office, in Rolling Stone's former space. Seventy pieces were selected -- words, photos, drawings, graphs. Edited, arranged, printed, shipped -- all in two days. Forty-eight hours after its completion, I ordered a copy for $10 plus shipping. Two days later, it arrived. I think that was a coincidence. Forty-eight hours after that, I read the whole thing cover to cover.
