A Note to Village Voice Readers

Categories: Announcements

An article by Helaina Hovitz critical of the plans for the South Street Seaport has been removed after the Voice learned that Hovitz is the daughter of a member of Community Board 1's Seaport/Civic Center Committee. While we have no reason to think Hovitz skewed her coverage as a result of that relationship, the fact that she didn't inform us of it falls well short of basic journalistic standards. We regret the error.

The Voice Will Be on the Streets Tomorrow

    sandyvoice_550.jpg

Along with Lower Manhattan, The Village Voice offices have been left without power since Monday evening due to Hurricane Sandy. Our staffers (many whom are without power as well) have been working hard, and we will have an issue with Hurricane Sandy coverage out on the streets tomorrow afternoon.

Our red boxes will be standing upright and filled in no time.

Meet Nick Greene, Runnin' Scared's New Weekend Blogger

    NickGreenePizza.png
Pizza enthusiast and humanitarian, Nick Greene
We are happy to announce that you'll be in new hands over the weekend, as, you've probably noticed, Rosie Gray has joined us on the weekday circuit over here. Welcome Nick Greene, who interned with us in the spring and has made various appearances since on our blog, including in his irreverent and hilarious science column, Death by Science. He masterfully memorialized Elizabeth Taylor's obit writer in the moments following Elizabeth Taylor's passing, compiled alternate culinary terms for a "sugar-coated Satan sandwich," and called the BBC out for roundabout BS. And he's a good friend reliable Twitter harasser of Mike Bloomberg. Consider him your Gatorade during those desperate hungover weekends (or maybe we're projecting -- whenever you want news!). Follow him on Twitter at @nickgreene.

Meet Rosie Gray, Your New Runnin' Scared Blogger

It is my pleasure to introduce the newest member of the Runnin' Scared team: Rosie Gray. Rosie has been our weekend blogger on the site since January, and she interned with us during the halcyon summer of 2010 (remember the old days)? She's done amazing work, scoring exclusive interviews with Dov Charney, providing extensive coverage during breaking news events including the Gabrielle Giffords shooting and the death of Osama Bin Laden, live-blogging the royal wedding, and being on point, savvy, and hilarious in posts like "Please Welcome 'Hampsters,' the Hamptons Hipsters" and "Men Only Want Sex, Women Only Want Relationships, and Other Tired Old Clichés" -- not to mention my personal favorite: "Crazy Guy Tries to Marinate Cat." She is going to tear shit up on this blog, and we are all very excited. Welcome, Rosie!

Follow her on Twitter at @_rosiegray.

Nick Pinto is the Voice's Newest Staff Writer

    WeirdScience.jpg
If you read this piece, then you are already familiar with Nick's work.
Runnin' Scared is happy to introduce Nick Pinto, the Voice's newest staff writer. You may have already seen him in our pages with his recent cover story on the Schapiro Group's questionable data that led to the removal of Craigslist's adult classifieds. Nick comes to us from CityPages, our sister paper in Minneapolis, and he says he'll continue to "debunk junk science and expose charlatans" under our banner. Originally from Jersey, Nick's return to the Tri-State Area is both a boon for us and the Twin Cities' charlatan population. Welcome, Nick!

Runnin' Scared is happy to announce that Francesca Stabile has been named the Village Voice's web editor, filling the formidable and stylish shoes of Zach Baron and, previously, Camille Dodero. Francesca (if you're lucky she'll let you call her Frannie) has been the Voice's social media coordinator since December 2009, and has likely entertained you at one point or another as the voice of @VoiceStreet. Catch her starting today on the @VillageVoice Twitter, and all around VillageVoice.com.
