SPITZER EMBROILED IN PROSTITUTION SCANDAL

Categories: Spitzer Sex Scandal

Embroiled in a prostitution scandal, Gov. Eliot Spitzer said he needed time to dedicate himself to his family, but the first-term Democrat did not indicate that he would resign amids reports linking him to a high-end prostitution ring.

"I have acted in a way that violates my obligation to my family and violates mine or any sense of right and wrong. I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public, to whom I promised better..." Spitzer said in a hastily called press conference in Manhattan. "I must now dedicate some time to regain the trust of my family."

Spitzer made announcement after the New York Times reported his involvement with a prostitution ring on its web site. The Times is reporting that Spitzer is one of the men named in court papers made public last week when authorities busted a international prostitution ring.

Last week, authorities charged four people for their connection to the Emperors Club VIP prostitution ring that charged wealthy men as much as $5,500 an-hour for trysts with high-end hookers. According to the Times, Spitzer is the person named in court documents as "client 9."

Mark Jeffery Koch says:

When a Republican gets caught cheating on their spouse they immediately are forced to resign their office but when a Democrat is caught cheating on their wife somehow they are allowed to remain in office, and the left wing pundits declare their private life no one elses business. When you disgrace the office you were elected to serve you should resign immediately, irregardless of whether or not you are a Republican, Democrat, or Independent. When we continue to make excuses for the character problems our elected officials have and allow them to remain in office we dumb down morality further and further. Some day, a politician will get caught embezzling money or even for murder but if the economy is doing well, and the trains are running on time voters will excuse their "moral lapse." It's long past the time we set and MAINTAIN higher standards for those we put in power.

Spike says:

MJK, I haven't seen a single left wing pundit say that about Spitzer. And I suspect the reason is because he was a total hypocrite in his ardent prosecution of prostitution. Same reason people go crazy when Republicans are railing against the very thing they do.

Koch is a moron says:

Mark Jeffery Koch: David Vitter got caught with a hooker last year. He didn't resign. Do you know who David Vitter is? Why don't you do a quick search, then come back and edit your post. BTW: The Gov. should resign ASAP.

a regular guy says:

When will we overcome our puritannical taboos about sex and prostitution, and make it legal? Then everybody can afford a little relief from the drudgeries of life, not just the well-to-do.

Tom Cooper says:

Say goodbye Elliot. You hypocritical bag of shit. You didn't mind prosecuting others for prostitution but now that you get caught you say that you are above the law.

I agree with "Regular Guy" that prostition should be legalized. But it is illegal *and* the Gov. prosecuted others while prostelitizing about the big bad prosecution rings. So this one is simple, prosecute him under Federal statute and throw him out.

Cut the man some slack! His political career is over and all you heartless professionals are tripping over each other trying to come up with the best insult.
My heart and thought go out to Governor Spitzer and his family.

"Cut the man some slack! "

Why? He didn't show any mercy to the people he prosecuted for the very same act.
