Thug Life: Finding Miladin Kovacevic

Posted by Heather Muse at 10:39 AM, June 27, 2008

You just know this Serbian-thug-on-the-run story is going to have its headlines ripped next season on Law & Order. My money is on Criminal Intent, so that the viewers can look into the mind of the villain based on Miladin Kovacevic.

Both tabloids have Kovacevic on the front page, but the Post wins out with an exclusive interview with Kovacevic's parents. It's a fascinating read, and the Post seems like it delights in pointing out the inconsistencies in the interview with Branka and Peter Kovacevic. What are some of these contradictions?

First, the Kovacevics decry the "media circus" that has stemmed from this case, one that Isabel Vincent points out, "they helped create." Miladin's parents say the Binghamton basketball player is in hiding in Serbia not because of the law, but because of the reporters camped outside his parents' door. There is very little sympathy for the Kovacevics, as demonstrated here:

"Kovacevic's mother said she flew to Binghamton to be with her son while he was held in lieu of $100,000 bail—and whined that she'd lost close to 50 pounds from worrying about her boy."

Later on in the piece, we learn that Kovacevic was "a real a--hole," according to a former classmate who also tells thePost that Kovacevic was a crappy basketball player.

The Daily News concentrates on a rundown of the night of May 4, when Bryan Steinhauer was savagely beaten. The paper also has a comment from a family friend in Serbia, who tells the paper, "You'll never find him!" They also cover the loophole that allowed Kovacevic to board a plane three days after making bail. We learned yesterday that with the help of the emergency passport, he was able to flee. Since Kovacevic posted bail, he was no longer declared a wanted fugitive and appeared on no "no-fly lists."

Kovacevic's parents insist that the thug didn't have to give up his passport after his arrest, but the Post reports that the passport number that Kovacevic used to leave the country was different from the one he used to gain entry to the United States. Both papers feature a quote from Sen. Chuck Schumer decrying the Serbian government's assistance in helping Kovacevic leave the country, which Schumer called "a despicable act and a violation of US and international law." The Senator also is asking Secretary of State Condolezza Rice to get the Serbian government to strip Serbian Deputy Counsel Igor Milosevic of his diplomatic immunity. Milosevic allegedly helped Kovacevic flee by providing him with the emergency passport. Milosevic is on the run as well.

The Post also features photos of Kovacevic partying it up with a cigar and a shotgun, which spawns the banner headline, "KISS MY ASH." Inside is a picture of his parents looking morose and upset as they sit on a couch in their home. You'd almost feel bad for them if you didn't know that Bryan Steinhauer is still in a coma, which his father says "there is hope he'll come out soon from the coma, but nothing is guaranteed."

"a despicable act and a violation of US and international law"
AKA a taste of your own medicine
good

Looks like poor ol' Bryan Steinhauer got smashed up real nasty, and I'm willing to bet he deserved it. Even if he didn't, I guess sometimes you just gotta punch someone in their face. Sorry Bryan, that's just the way it goes sometimes. Maybe if you wake up, you'll learn.

Sto si cackao mecku? hahaha

You'll never find him!!!!!

americans dont like so much serbs.

Posted by: niko at June 28, 2008 6:07 AM

A question.
How many american kids do have a photo with a shootgun made after a two sixpacs?
Prove anything?
When an american cittizen runs down a kid on a pedestrian crossing, somewhere abroad ,he/she do not wait for a local police. He/she runs in to the ebmassy. Then local US embassy/consulate ships him/her home ASAP and all local police got is an affidavite of ".. he/she is ready to give an official statement on the accident and take the future legal consequences of... blah, blah" ... while sitting at his/her home in the USA in a front of his/her big-screen TV!
Serbia is obeying all treaties of international law ... at least as mush as the US!

At 6'9 he's not going to be that difficult to find and if Serbia is still interested in being an American ally and receiving any American funding they'll smarten the **** up and turn this piece of trash over to the authorities.

And to his friend Pavel who posted above, be thankful you're still in the United States where you can take absolute pride in being a grade A A**hole and not have to worry about some degenerate 6'9 mother***** pummeling your own degenerate ass and getting away with it.

YOU DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SITUATION TO MAKE SUCH CRASS REMARKS
NOBODY DESERVES TO BE KNOCKED OUT AFTER TWO PUNCHES AND THEN LAYING ON THE FLOOR OF A CROWDED BAR AND REPEATEDLY KICKED IN THE HEAD BY A BEAST WHO IS A FOOT TALLER AND OVER DOUBLE THEIR WEIGHT
OVER A GIRL HE WAS DANCING WITH
I HOPE SOMEONE DOES TO YOU WHAT HAPPENED TO BRYAN
AND BAD OLD MINJA WILL GET HIS KARMA AS WILL YOU FOR SUCH REMARKS

GOD BLESS YOUR UNDESERVING SOUL

Whose idea was it for SUNY Bing to have a Division I team? What a total nucking waste of tax payer money. Binghole is going into the crapper they are building a Div I team. Yikes! BTW, What was a Division I basketball player doing in a campus bar with the weanies (who pay their own freight), not to mention on Disco night? For shame. Seriously what was wrong with that guy. Didn't he know Division I don't do campus bars unless it has been cleared of losers, and there is a bouncer at the door to keep it that way?

As far as Steinhauer, Vaya con Dios. It could have been me at that campus bar on Disco night.

Posted by: George at June 29, 2008 11:06 AM

If what that Serbian thug did was justified, why did he run off to Serbia?

The guy was a foot and a half smaller than him. Reagrdless of if Steinhauer groped this girl or not, beating him into a coma was way overboard! Perhaps it was a case of "tall man's syndrome." (a tall man thinking it's his right to throw his weight around, regardless of the consequences)

Posted by: C Hamre at June 29, 2008 12:55 PM

I just find it ironic that a group of 6 black thugs beat the shit out of some white boy to the point of a coma and the whole nation is appalled and rises in their defense (Jena 6?). Some drunk idiot decides to grope a girl at a bar, her friend hits him after being provoked again, and the whole state is against this guy, and now its a GDed international incident. Why? Because he's a foreigner. Something is seriously wrong with this scenario and this country's value system. If my boyfriend can't protect me in a bar, then I'm moving to Serbia!

Maybe the U.S. should spend it's time and resources prosecuting AMERICAN criminals that are within its own borders.

How about the three thugs in the NYPD that shot and killed Sean Bell on his wedding day, who by the way was weaponless? Or the four policemen/murderers who emptied 41 bullets into unarmed immigrant Amadou Diallo? How about the entire station full of cops that tried to murder the Hatien immigrant Abner Louima, but only succeeded in sodomizing him with a plunger, violating him orally with said plunger, and putting him into the hospital for 2 months?

The fact that these American criminals were acquitted helps to show the U.S.’s lack of priorities within the justice system.

I went to school with this idiot up in binghamton. He's a real scum bag if you ask me. He walks around campus like he owns the place disrespecting girls, and acting like a complete idiot (He sucks at basketball and he's a terrible and disrespectful person, he never belonged in this country). He likes to talk about his guns he has back home in Serbia, always threatening kids not to f*** with him. Minja is 260 pounds and he beat a kid into a coma who is 130 pounds, wow what a tough guy. Hope one day he receives a beat down into a coma from someone who is 520 pounds and benches 700 pounds. What an idiot this kid is. He got kicked off the basketball team and is an awful student. I think the administration and athletic department at suny binghamton should be extremely ashamed of themselves for ever giving this kid a chance at success in the U.S. He was a failure the moment he stepped foot on U.S. soil. Good thing they gave him a full scholarship for basketball to put another student in a coma, show's where college education priorities are in today's society. I hope justice is served on Minja and everyone should pray for Bryan Steinhauer to pull through most importantly!

"No deserves to get beaten to death you god damn Serb!!! Thats good to post that to see how stupid u look!!"

Shut up dummy he isn't dead. Yet, anyways. I wasn't talking about who deserves what, who even cares about any of that anyways? I'm talking about the facts of life meaning sometimes you go to a bar, have a few drinks, get too brave, and end up getting lopped up... sorry buddy that's life. Something you wouldn't know nothing about anyways. And neither does Mr. Bryan, from the looks of it. Maybe if he hit the punching bag every once in a while and wasn't such a pussy he would have some backing to his barroom provocations. That's his own stupid fault. So he got fistsies and bootsies in his face, end of story. I'm on the same page as Mr. Kovacevic 100%

"Good, one less Euro-Trash in our country, time to get rid of the Million others."

If you want to get rid of the "euro-trash" in North America, I recommend you pack up your things and go back to your frozen rainy little island, sir.

"At 6'9 he's not going to be that difficult to find and if Serbia is still interested in being an American ally and receiving any American funding they'll smarten the **** up and turn this piece of trash over to the authorities.

And to his friend Pavel who posted above, be thankful you're still in the United States where you can take absolute pride in being a grade A A**hole and not have to worry about some degenerate 6'9 mother***** pummeling your own degenerate ass and getting away with it."

The only ones in Serbia who are interested in recieving your filthy funds are the traitors, cowards, the brainwashed, the ones who have sold their people to your sh!t-stained investors and bankers for a quick penny so that the Serbian people are enslaved by you nitwits on their own land for generations to come. To turn the tables, if America was interested in being Serbia's ally, they wouldn't have bombed a civilized Christian country in the interests of the same "investors" who ravage our economy today. So fvck all those in Serbia who have interest in being allies with the US in the first place, as$hole.

I'll be thankful or otherwise for anything I damn well please you clown, because if someone who is 6'9" stepped up to me I would knock their monkey ass out so hard they wouldn't even know what hit em. And if I was the one getting smashed, then thats what happens when I don't hit hard enough, fast enough... And please belive, I'm the mellow guy and I DO NOT like to fight, I'm not trying to give off a tough guy impression I've just seen it all. But if the circumstances call for it I'll slap anybody regardless of size, and I have the scars on my face to prove it, so don't test me. And if I get pummeled and they get away with it, the last thing I would do is visit the police station and cry about it. Maybe if you had a little of what they call honor you'd get it.

"If what that Serbian thug did was justified, why did he run off to Serbia?

It's totally justified, just not legally, on paper. What can I say? Maybe Steinhauer developed himself a little Napoleon complex and Kovacevic's fist of thunder put him in his place real quick. Sometimes you get in a jam and have to make a quick escape, nothing wrong with that. laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate

Tune in people, it's a Big Showdown tonight, with Kovacevic in white shoes and red shorts and in the far corner we have Steinhauer in black shoes and blue shorts and the first bell goes off its Steinhauer bobbing and weaving and moving towards Kovacevic and OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH MY GOODNESS LADIES AND GENTLEMEN I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE MY EYES KOVACEVIC KNOCKS HIM OUT IN THE FIRST!!!!!!!! AND THE WINNER IS KOOOOOOOOOOOVAAAAAAAAAAAACEVIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE CROWD GOES WILD DING DING DING!!!!!

Sounds like it's settled to me.

Look, get yourself an education and a system of morals. There is nothing proud about having your 6'9 friend step in for your own problem (it WASN'T HIS GIRLFRIEND). There is also nothing proud about repeatedly kicking the living shit (just about literally) out of a knocked out college kid because you want to prove a point.

I went to school with Steinhauer, and I didn't particularly like him, but there's nothing he could have possibly done - even if he tried - to deserve being the focal point of a barbaric rampage. It would probably benefit you in future situations to think your words through before you spew them from your mouth. If that's the best calibur of conclusion you can logically create for yourself, perhaps you need a good old serbian beating yourself.

Hey schoolboy, a college education never taught anybody anything about bar fights. Go write a paper about it while a million other people in America and elsewhere are getting their faces stomped out in all kinds of bars, alleys, clubs, parking lots, etc etc but nobody bothers to get philosophical about it because everyone understands that that's the way the world works. People get violent to other people. No point in making a big deal about it, right? I mean sure they talk about crime statistics, but not every individual gets such finely plumed articles devoted to their misbehavior. The cases of the rest of those unfortunate bruised and battered souls aren't reported with such sensationalist bullshit as "You just know this Serbian-thug-on-the-run story is going to have its headlines ripped next season on Law & Order" because they simply aren't politically convenient. Come on, with a slew of people debating the Kosovo issue and others, you think the Western press, in coalition with the NATO pact and the leaders of the NWO in whose interest it is to persuade as many people to be against Serbia's territorial rights and other such issues, won't gobble the opportunity to make Serbs look bad especially when the son of a wealthy Jew is attacked? Try to re-judge the caliber of my conclusion with the thought in mind that since you've certainly been sheltered from the real world you talk about it in the sense of what's right and wrong because somewhere in some book you were only reading to make that grade, you read about an idealized "system of morals", whereas I'm only talking about how it is. And I've read plenty on both morality and philosophy, ask away if you have any questions. Think about it shit, Durso.

I am Serbian and I am appalled by Kovacevic's brutality and his cowardly flight, but I am equally appalled by ignorant remarks about Serbs, Jews etc. This violent crime has nothing to do with race or nationality. The moron who helped Kovacevic escape has aleady been fired and I hope Kovacevic will be brought to justice soon. Please refrain from insulting people because they are Serbs, Jews, WASPs or whatever.

Posted by: sanja at July 4, 2008 1:03 PM

Sanja I feel ashamed as well that the Serbian Government is again helping the criminals such as the ones who illegally bombed us, are taking our land in Kosovo, and buying up our country while at the same time having the audacity to make "demands" of extradition of our young hero, Kovacevic. At least they aren't helping the criminals by handing Kovacevic over to them. As if they would extradite to Serbia an American citizen who committed the same act. Give me a break. Why isn't Clinton in the Hague???? And who's the one helping criminals again? Shame on them.

Posted by: at July 4, 2008 4:29 PM

I knew both. Seen them both around campus. I am all for Koavacevic's cause. Real nice kid. This other guy, Jewish kid, looked like an arrogant asshole. He probably got what was coming to him for a long time. However, this story is blown out of proportions.

Posted by: Jason at July 4, 2008 9:23 PM

Serbs will protect their own. You will never catch him, Mladic or Karadzic. CCCC

Posted by: Bokababe at July 4, 2008 9:47 PM

i think this all cultural misunderstanding, i worked in belgrade for a little while, it is very different when you go out there. you respect women, you dont grab them, and everyone respects everyone else, no matter how drunk they are, because the cost of acting stupid is very high, in the end its a very civilized place... when i studied in the US on exchange (i'm from UK), americans always pretend to start fighting but never do, and i see people grabbing girls/etc which would never fly over in europe the same way. the serbian guy did what was natural to him (and to me), as did bryan, but he went too far.... if he was in belgrade and did that, that would have been a death sentence....

and i am sick of americans complaining about people running from justice, when you people commit crimes all over the world, you run to the embassy and the marines take you home "because the justice system is not fair there," the irony of this incident is beyond thought!

Posted by: brian at July 5, 2008 1:40 AM

First, it's remarkable that those who defend this felon-go straight to the "Jew got what he deserved thing". Second, "the racist and Jewish media"? Um, do you mean the racist Jewish media that protected and promoted the black Presidential candidate against the most connected white Presidential candidate in history? Third,
while I will acknowledge that "shit happens"-stomping the head of an unconcious person deserves to land someone in jail-period...

Posted by: bp at July 5, 2008 6:49 AM

I suppose that is what you get with the unrestrained immigration. The USA has enough of its own homegrown thugs and criminals ...we do not need to import more idiots.

Just another story of a very ungrateful foreigner taking advantage of our system. Parasites! The moron says that he does not trust our judicial system, and yet he'll come here to go to school.
The only good thing to come of this is that if he is not extradited, at least he will never live here again . Rot wherever you are you ugly coward!

Another proof of US two-standards politics. The Serbian diplomat did the right thing and protected Serbian citizen from unfair trial.
Kovacevic done the right thing and protected girl from horny drunk student.... it's quite normal thing to do...just Bryan didn't have luck so ended in coma.
Kovacevic is Serbian citizen and will have a fair trial here in Serbia for what he has done.

Perhaps there should be more focus crime here. Last weekend in Chicago there were 27 shootings. Few have found suspects in custody. Are these shootings examples of American thuggery?

And, as for the trolls that are unaware of the history of even their own country

Why are there so many people whining about Serbs when in reality they don't know anything about them? You guys need to stop believing everything you read in books and hear on the news. Open your eyes and see the big picture. The country you are standing up for is defiantly not as incident you may think. Have you ever really wondered about how many millions of people the US killed, that just so happened to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time? Let’s not even mention that afterwards they went back home to their families and lived happily ever after. What about all those souls they killed?
There is probably a reason for the occurrence of September 11th. Others are just getting fed up with the US barging into their country and killing their people. Maybe sometimes a little taste of your own medicine hurts the most.
All this drama over this case is absolutely ridiculous! So what if the man went to Serbia? He's doing what he thinks is best. There is so much more to be talking about, so many more severe situations to be worrying about, and here you are spreading nonsense about Serbs.

Miladin don't want so called "US justice". He is willing to face justice in front of Serbian law. US citizen in abroad, when commit crime always run to USA, why is wrong when Serb does the same thing. THINK ABOUT THAT!

What round goes, round comes ;)

Absolutely disgusting piece of trash. What kind of bizarre Soviet-style double think are him and his family engaging in with the whole argument of the US Justice system not giving a fair trial? Serbia is apparently a bastion of peace, tranquility and fair-mindedness excuse me. Would be laughable if someone wasn't on the brink of death because of his ape-like behavior. The worst part is Kovacevic's parents, enabling his escape! The disrespect they have for this country's laws and pursuit of justice is disgusting yet they don't mind living and working here eh? Disgusting.

Posted by: at July 10, 2008 10:11 PM

I enjoyed reading all the comments from the people supporting Kovacevic. I didn't even know anything about Serbia before this. Of course after reading up, I have no doubts he will be brought back to the US to stand trial. Who cares if he is from Serbia or Kansas, put the jerk in jail. Once there, he'll find a nice boyfriend!

Posted by: at July 10, 2008 10:28 PM

Its crazy people can defend this guy, Serbian, American or whatever. If these two guys were both native American citizens and one fled the country this would still be an issue. Any of the idiots on here that think Kov is being targeted because he is not native to the US are so far from understanding. This is about crime, and a criminal that should be held responsible. If he was French, British, German, Thai, Japanese, whatever.... The US would be trying to get him here just the same. This guy is a coward; coward for beating on a kid half his size, coward for packing his shit and leaving, and mostly a coward for trying to justify his actions with race or nationality. He will get what he deserves, a fair trial and a fair sentence, in time... 'cause it always happens that way, no matter how far somebody wants to run there's somebody on the other side of the world waiting for them.

Hey stupid Americans, without us "European bastards" you wouldn't have moved technologically, so stfu, read some history books, then post...ignorant bastards...
Your precious USA will crumble under its own weight...its just the matter of time...
Just keep lookin' in other people's business

You will never fucking find him.

Posted by: Vorda at July 13, 2008 7:23 AM

Serbia, just like the USA has a law that forbids the extradition of its nationals to other countries. So from the moment Kovacevic entered Serbia, there was no legal way for Serbia to extradite him. That's why the State Dept is talking to his parents and not to Serbian authorities. I feel bad for the guy in the coma and I hate guys like Kovacevic but the USA has no right to be enraged by this. Remember Captain Richard Ashby and more recently the Blackwater incident.

What a way to go through life - 6 ft 9 - 280lbs and WANTED by the F.B.I & Interpol.
This will definitely take it's toll on him.
Life in a cave in Serbia.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT SERBIA OR AMERICA, THIS IS ABOUT THE FACT THAT ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS LIFE MAY BE GONE, I HAVE KNWON BRYAN SINCE I WAS 14...THIS ALL MAKES ME SICK, ITS SO EASY TO COMMENT ON A SITUATION WHEN IT DOESNT HIT CLOSE TO HOME...EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN OPINION ON JUSTICE UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO THEM, THE PROPER JUSTICE SHOULD BE TAKEN PLACE IN AMERICA, WHERE THE CRIME WAS COMMITTED...EVERYONE WHO GLORIFIES THIS MILADIN CHARACTER FOR HIDING IS THE MOST INHUMANE AND DISGUSTING INDIVIDUAL BECAUSE A REAL MAN WOULD FACE HSI CHARGES, HE ONLY PROVES WHAT A COWARD HE IS AND HOW PATHETIC HIS FAMILY AND COUNTRY IS...LOOK AT THE MERE DIFFERENCE IN SIZE BETWEEN THE TWO, IF BRYAN DID FIGHT BACK OR HIT MILADIN,WHICH IS HIGHLY DOUBTFUL, ONCE HE WAS ON THE GROUND ONLY A TRUE MONSTER, A SOCIOPATH, WOULD HIT AN INJURED DEFENSELESS PERSON. I FOCUS MY ENERGY ON MY FRIEND'S RECOVERY BUT PEOPLE SHOULD REALLY WATCH WHAT THEY SAY AND REEVALUATE HOW THEYH WOULD FEEL IF IT WAS THEIR LOVED ONE, SOMEONE THEY RESPECTED...YOU CAN BE HEARTLESS AND SAY HE DESERVES IT OR VIEW THE SITUATION AS POLITICAL, WHICH IT VERY WELL MAY BE, BUT LOOK AT YOUR LIFE AND HOW MUCH YOU VALUE YOUR EXISTENCE AND TRY AS HARD AS YOU CAN, WHICH YOU NEVER WILL IF YOU ARE BREATHING AND CONCIOUS, TO HAVE YOUR LIFE RIPPED FROM YOU AND TO BE TRAPPED IN YOUR OWN SKIN...UNABLE TO VOICE YOUR THOUGHTS OR TO LIVE THE LIFE YOU WORKED SO HARD TO CREATE...MILADIN CRUSHED MY FRIEND'S DREAM AND THE ONLY THING THAT SHOULD BE SAID ABOUT THIS SITUATION IS THAT ONE HOPES BRYAN WILL RECOVER...FUCK MILADIN AND HIS SAD EXISTANCE, HE IS NO SHORT OF A BEAST...JUST PLEASE STOP, I HAVEN'T COMMENTED ON ANY SIGHTS YET BUT REMEMBER THERE IS A LIFE INVOLVED, HE HAS A FAMILY, HE IS AN ONLY CHILD, LOOK AT SOMEONE YOU LOVE AND REALIZE THAT IT COULD BE YOUR CHILD OR PARENT ETC THAT WAS HURT AND THAN REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE ADVOCATING THE FREEDOM OF A PERSON THAT COULD VERY WELL DO THIS AGAIN AND IS CAPABLE OF RUINING A LIFE

Will anybody say, what the influential house-friend of Bryan's parents, congressman Schumer (also a Jew), mentioned in his very own statement:

Bryan's coma WAS MEDICALLY INDUCED, NOT THROUGH MILADIN'S BEATING.

Stop your unexhaustible propaganda against Serbs and Serbia - you are not even able to sort out your own lies, but on the other hand, would like to have a trial against Miladin Kovacevic for something that happens day in day out in your wicked and god forsaken country, the USA - without even being noticed.

Pathetic, as only the Americans can be...... I am disgusted by you......

Posted by: Dragan Zebeljan at July 16, 2008 12:12 AM

I am from Serbia and very proud, and that doesn't mean that I am protecting in any way what Miladin Kovacevic did. All I have to say to this that I am sorry for the victim and his family and I hope that he wakes up from the coma. I understand why a lot of people are upset that Miladin fled the country, but u have to put ur self in that situation, What if you were in Serbia and you got in some kind a trouble. Would you like to be prosecuted in Serbia or back home in America. Cuz if u are a lonely American in a Serbian prison... Good LUCK... and same goes here, if u are a foreigner in a US prison, it will not be the best experience... So I think that Miladin was in the wrong, but he has to have a right to fair trial and the only place he can get that is in his home land.

Posted by: Daniel at July 16, 2008 2:28 AM

The ethnicity of both the victim and the alleged perpetrator are completely irrelevant. Any attempts to turn this issue into a Serb/USA/Jew (even Albanian) bashing exercise completely miss the point. This is not a political incident. A young man has been gravely injured and the man alleged to have committed the assault has fled the country.

While the act of fleeing may be reprehensible to many (including myself) it is hardly surprising. Expatriates living in countries all over the world attempt to flee their host countries after committing crimes. Many even receive the active aid of their native governments. Both Serbia and the United States follow such policies but neither should be singled out for attempting to protect their own. No country in the world will openly extradite one of its nationals to a country where they believe they will not receive a fair trial. My own government in Ireland recently refused to extradite three suspected IRA members to Colombia to face sentences for aiding FARC Guerrillas. I have lived in the United States and I currently live in Serbia. The fact of the matter remains that, while many of us know differently, there are very few Serbs who believe that any Serb can receive a fair trial in the United States. They fully believe that in the recent past they have been the victims of massive and brutal US oppression, not only militarily but also economically and especially in media coverage. This may seem absurd to many readers but this is how they really feel. I know because I live here.

This successful resolution of this matter will take some skillful diplomatic maneuvering. I believe the US authorities are doing the right thing by talking with the alleged perpetrator’s parents. Perhaps they can reach some sort of agreement whereby the man could return to face trial in the US. Alternatively the US could accept a Serbian promise to try the accused themselves. If the case is as cut and dry as it appears the Serbian judiciary system (while far from the world’s best) is capable of reaching a conclusion that would be acceptable (or at least tolerable) to all. It may not be a perfect settlement any side hopes for, but in a complicated, international, and highly publicised case such as this it may be the only acceptable outcome.

I hope and pray for the speedy and full recovery of the victim.

with all the crime going on in the U.S., this one thug is placed above all the rest (and far worse) and makes it to the INTERPOL most wanted list?

if anyone makes a movie out of this, it should be a comedy...

hold on a second.

with so much crime going on in the U.S., this one single thug is placed above ALL the rest for a bar brawl AND makes it to the INTERPOL most wanted list?!? i've never heard of anything like it lol...it does raise some interesting questions...

if anyone makes a movie out of this, it should be a political satire/comedy. period.

The best time for Yugoslavia was when Tito was alive, he was able to keep all of you, Albanians, Croatians, Serbs and Bosnians to shut up,and make cheap little fucked up cars (yugos), and I used to enjoy to go there on the Adriatic sea for a very cheap vacation. Tito , Tito, where are you??

WOW! This big ugly thug clearly f*cked up, and what balls for anyone to come to his defense, Serb, Jewish, whoever. Anyone who thinks his behavior is commendable is clearly as worthless as this stupid jock himself.

Congratulations on a successful life, you pathetic losers. Must make you feel like a BIG MAN to hide behind your computer screen and spew nonsense at the world.

I'm gonna guess that Miladin Kovacevic's past will catch up to him. Big, dumb-ass piece of shit. My guess is he'll end up in a dirty Serbian prison for a very long time. Let's see how tough he is after spending 10-15 years in there...

Posted by: troy at July 22, 2008 6:13 PM

Bar fights happen all the time, big guys smash smaller guys, etc. They go to court, a jury determines their fate.

The issue in my eyes is that the Serbian government posted his bail, then issued him an illegal passport after his official one was held by the US courts because he was seen as a flight risk. This is Serbia spitting in the face of the US justice system and government. I would love to see the US government refuse entry to all Serbs until he is returned for trial.

Posted by: at July 24, 2008 1:35 PM

Lets see now. A 5'6" pipsqueak sucker punches a 6'9" guy and he throws a punch back and knocks him in a coma. Big guys like the Serb are usually pretty placid unless they are provoked. Sounds like the pipsqueak provoked him.

Posted by: bjorktree at July 25, 2008 10:03 PM

ok i really dont even want to read what the previous fucks had to say..
i just want to let you americans knows that you will never get kovacevic and that i do not support what he did. i dont like fights.but your gay government sure is enjoying to have something against the serbs such as kovacevics case..
after bombarding us in 1998 and taking kosovo from us and leaving thousands and thousands of serbs without jobs their homes and their families i think kovacevics case is just bs and that you need to loook at what you are doing to serbia first...

Posted by: Cetnik at August 2, 2008 1:31 PM

ITS NOT BECAUSE HE'S A SERB! It's because he is a criminal! Why are all the Serbs and eastern Europeans joyous in the fact committed an awful crime and escaped?

Unlike most people who posted here, I actually know Minja. Unlike EVERYONE who posted here, I was actually at the bar the night of the fight. At college I was friends with Minja, not great friends but he used to always come to my frat's parties and we'd see each other downtown every now and again. Anyways, Minja wasn't provoked, it was an over the top show of force not self defense or anything like that.

What really angers me is that many people are completely excusing what he did simply because of his heritage.

By the way Dragan Zebeljan: Steinhauer's coma is medically induced because as long as he remains in the coma his vitals are likely to not get irregular. He isn't staying in the coma so his parents and Schumer can get extra media attention. Also, it's SENATOR Schumer, not Congressman. And maybe he is leading the charge because he is a New York Senator, and the other NY Senator was running for president earlier in the year? Not because he and the victim are both Jewish. Don't be a moron!

Bottom line of this long rambling post, think of the situation for what really happened and what it is, not based on your Serbian loyalties!

Posted by: Dan at August 5, 2008 12:56 PM

I dont know what happened there, untill proven gulty someone is innocent.

Americans are known for creating certain sitations in the world to justify their bizzare actions against other countries.

This is one of them probably. I think this is the only one case where senators are involved and one country is bein sanctioned. This should become practice then.

Posted by: clostry at August 5, 2008 3:31 PM

lets start by saying its not that hes Serb, or even that he fled, who wouldn't. but the point is that he has such little respect for human life. we all have been in a situation similar. why this happened is understandable, but dont take that as approval. when you knock the guy out its over, everything after was taken to far and he deserves to pay for it. "for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord." (Romans 12:19)
dont worry everyone he will get his, God is almighty.
