Publisher Stays Mum on Author's Founding of Scientology

goldenage.jpgOnce again, the publisher charged with distributing the fiction works of L. Ron Hubbard has gone out of its way to ignore Hubbard’s signature accomplishment: the founding of the Church of Scientology.

In a release and accompanying promotional video touting a live-action performance of one of Hubbard’s fiction works, Galaxy Press, which sells Hubbard’s fiction under the Golden Age Stories moniker, goes to great lengths to hype Hubbard’s work with the United States Navy and his resume as an explorer. But it never mentions the controversial Church or Hubbard’s legitimate best-seller and Scientology blueprint, Dianetics.

Critics of the Church have argued that such stealthy actions are part of an overall effort to push Hubbard’s work into schools, which any association with Scientology could hinder.

Earlier this month, we noted that Galaxy Press did not mention Scientology or Dianetics in its commercials for the Hubbard fiction line or on its website, even though these are, by far, Hubbard’s most well-known accomplishments.

In a promotional video for the fiction line, Peter Breyer, the company’s senior vice president for administration, specifically mentions her company’s plans to “reach into the educational market... at the middle school, high school level."

Galaxy Press representatives have not returned any of our calls for comment.

As for the live performance, readers in the Los Angeles area can head to the Scientology’s own Author Services Theater in downtown Hollywood to see a reading of “The Chee-Chalker,” Hubbard’s tale of murder and drunken Indians in Alaska, supposedly drawn from his experiences as a private adventurer and leader of Naval expeditions. For the record, an examination of available military records appears to indicate that Scientology has been lying about just what an awesome Navy-man Hubbard was as a resume boost. Who wants to buy books from (or join the religion of) an undistinguished military washout?

Susan says:

“reach into the educational market... at the middle school, high school level."

How exactly does one "reach into the educational market?" without directly promoting the author, founder of the Church of Scientology?

And what happen with the revenue from those book sales? Is that taxable or Church-exempt?

They haven't returned your calls? Sad.
And there are so many trying to get them to STOP CALLING.
Why don't you print some of their "holy" upper level expensive brainwashing drivel? They be callin.
Seriously though... nobody wants to read his nasty, dated "adventure" fantasy poop. He was not a good writer although if you put a gun to my head I would read his adventure fiction before his medical and psychiatric fiction. Actually I might just allow you to shoot me.
Wasup? Nobody buying the bridge these days?

Galaxy Press only publishes the writings of L. Ron Hubbard as well as the re-writes David Miscavige did recently in order to sell more books and more bridges. Boy, Tom Cruise's "best friend" really knows how to make money and try to pass off his cult's front groups as valid companies.

I would also be very interested in knowing if these are tax exempt sales?

They have another front group called WISE,is there anyway you could find out if it is tax exempt?

I'm not very good at legal stuffs but I believe when I read their tax exemption documents they recieved in 1993 it called for the scientologists to get rid of their WISE business, which of course they haven't. Any chance you could do a story on that.

I think if someone could follow the money we would finally see an end to the cult.

David Miscavige says:

Scientology is, at best, a corrupt business that uses illegal bait-and-switch tactics to promise its followers one thing and fleece them with another. At worst it is a criminal conspiracy and a cult that preys on hopes, fears and ignorance to squeeze more money and support out of its believers. While I will maintain with full severity and sincerity that people have the inalienable right to believe as they choose, the practices of the church of Scientology are destructive and malignant. Scientology is a felony, and it must be quelled.

Larry Brennan says:

Personally I would enjoy hearing from the "publisher" its explanation for the following statement given to the IRS by organized scientology:

"The publications organizations also produce and distribute non-scriptural works of Mr. Hubbard's fiction, such as his sciencefiction, for the purpose of making his name better known so that the public will then read his works on Scientology and Dianetics".

See this link: http://www.xenufrance.net/csi-to-irs-bridge-bpi-nep-q2.pdf

My question for this publisher would be are you also selling these Hubbard sci-fi books in order to make Hubbard's name better known so that the public will read his scientology and dianetics books?

Let me guess at your answer...you're a separate corporation having nothing whatsoever to do with organized scientology and do not exist to help with the spread of organized scientology? In fact you don't even know who David Miscavige is. Am I right?

If nothing else, the publisher's answer should be entertaining! Larry Brennan

I guess the message is, "If you can't make it in the military you can't make it anywhere"? Does the writer of this article have any idea of how many Veterans have been offended? Why isn't the writer in the military instead of his key board? Shame on you for bringing military issues into this! What about the people ordered to torture at Guantanimo? I guess those are the people we should look up to? You all are a bunch of burnt out hippies liberals and religious extremists. The good new is that you have all found something to agree about.

Alex says:

Maybe the publisher isn't affiliated with Scentlology, and they're just embarassed about his "non-fiction" works. I would be.
