The Obama Presidency's Legacy of Hate

nancyr.jpgObama's first press conference is already a hit with rightbloggers! "Obama uses his first press conference to make fun of an elderly widow," says Liberty Lounge, referring to Obama's mild joke about Nancy Reagan today. "Say what you will about President George W. Bush," dudgeons NewsBusters, "but I don't recall him ever mocking an elderly widow in his pronouncements." "Never mind that there is no record of Mrs. Reagan ever having speaks with the dead," sniffs Sweetness & Light. "Obama Bashes Nancy Reagan for Alternative Religious Beliefs," headlines Red Alerts. "Making fun of beloved, sick and elderly former First Ladies," weeps American Pundit.

"The Dow has dropped by more than 100 points since his press conference began," says National Review's David Freddoso.

Who'd have ever imagined John Podhoretz would be the class of the field?

Awesome! Does this mean the winguts now approve of an Astrology-based decision matrix? One hopes.

Rob Taylor says:

I'd assumed someone from the Voice would be willing to stand up for religious freedom, since your stomping ground is so close to where Herman Slater's Magickal Childe (formerly The Warlock Shop) was located. Having spent many afternoon there I can tell you there are many New Yorkers (myself included when I lived there) into more than astrology.

I guess it's not "cool" anymore to have different beliefs in NY. Shall we all begin to resin ourselves to being ridiculed if we aren't left leaning protestants?

Where were these people when John McCain made his IED joke on the Daily Show? Joking about something that kills hundreds of troops is OK, but joking about former First Lady hocus pocus is not?

'Cause if its anything, its that the right-wing is tolerant of alternative religious beliefs!

Jim Tavegia says:

Did everyone think that Obama's 20 year church affiliation was a "mistake"? Who makes the same mistake for 20 years? He claimed on national tv "my Muslim faith", and yet no one was listening?

His first day on the job and his foot goes right into his mouth with Republican bashing, but not really? This was no little mistake.

If Republicans have any sense left after this election they will totally avoid this administration that totally dissed them during this campaign. He said he is the messiah and now let him prove it. It is now time to shut up and lead, accept we all know what is coming. First more money for the U.N., a previous attempt he tried to tie the U.S. tied to forever in the Senate, but he couldn't get it out of committee. Now he doesn't have to.

The biggest slight of hand is how the Republicans had to take the blame for the financial crisis that was started by the Clinton Administration and fueled by none other than Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, heads of the Banking Committee. Greenspan is just as culpable. With ex-Clinton aides all in Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, and yet none of the blame falls there or on any Democrat. Talk about Teflon-coated politics.

There is a great piece on this mess on the web at Investor's Business Daily. If you care to know the truth. No wonder Mr. Lieberman is leaving the party. If you want to destroy an organization you do it from within. You were warned.

Liberty Lounge user says:

Thank you for quoting the Liberty Lounge, however, your quote is not from a right wing blogger. It is from an anonymous user of a message forum. Secondly, just because Obama was confused over whether or not Nancy Reagan had partaken in any séances doesn't mean that his joke wasn't in bad taste. It was made into more of an issue than it should have, however, Obama did feel the need to apologize for his remark. I'm not too sure why you would feel he shouldn't. I doubt you would feel the same if John McCain had made the same joke about Hillary Clinton (who has a closer history to séances than Nancy Reagan).

Ace McFace says:

I voted for Obama and supported him during the campaign but I cringed when he said that.
That was a dumb thing to say. But compared to the idiot in chief we have now he'll sound like a genius over time.
