The Daily News story also has a factual error, and important one for anyone looking to register a gun. The story says "A police source says the war could end peacefully if Littlejohn applied for a permit with the NYPD handgun license division."

The problem is that he doesn't need a handgun permit, he needs a rifle/shotgun permit, which you get in Queens not at Lower Manhattan where you try (often in vain) to get the pistol permit.

And to further expand firearmstruth's point, if you do not posses either the powder or shot to make a muzzleloader, you know, actually shoot, you don't need any permit at all.

And consider this: if there were a significant number of people owning firearms in NYC, you'd still be able to smoke in bars, just as a f'rinstance. His Honor can trample all over you with impunity, as can the NYPD, because you all don't have any sort of credible deterrant.

As well, if only 1 in 10 people were armed, the amount of street crime would plummet.

Why would he need a 'permit' when its not even classified as a firearm by the ATF?

I hate commentary like this. You obviously can't find any logical or factual reason to dis this guy who is obviously a victim of police harassment, so you have to trot out the "gun nut" stereotypes.

I can't understand why so-called progressives are so fanatic about gun control. After 8 years of Bush trampling the constitution, you would think that you would recognize it as the fascist policy it is.

Funny how nobody wants to take the cops' side on this one, isn't it? The cops says it should be confiscated - isn't that good enough? The cops' word was certainly good enough to condemn Professor Gates, wasn't it?

People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people.

It's a good thing Littlejohn didn't show the cops two forms of ID. He might have been arrested for disorderly conduct. But then again, he's white.
