I can understand why some people do not believe factcheck.org over say a federal judge. My nephew just got his first passport and he had to walk in with a certified birth certificate to prove his citizenship. I'm always curious about what they think they'll find on the "long form" birth certificate that they won't find on the standard Certificate of Live Birth form. Because as far as I can tell, the information needed to determine citizenship -- place of birth -- is already on there.

As I understand it, the state of Hawai'i considers its "short form" certificate good enough for every purpose under the sun except for showing Native Hawaiian status. And considering that I got my passport by showing an even briefer form from the state of New Jersey, I can't imagine that the federal government would have any issue with accepting Hawai'i's certification.

Then there's the whole issue of why an 18-year-old woman would fly, in the pre-jet era, from Hawaii to Kenya to give birth to her first child in third-world conditions among her husband's family (which included his other wife, whom he'd neglected to inform his second wife about) and then fly back with a baby in time to meet friends three months later, when she lived near her own family and modern hospital facilities already.

And, really, who paid for that little jaunt. Because that's a hell of an expensive trip nowadays; it was out of the reach of a middle-class college student in 1961.

Yes, Obama was born on Aug. 4th, 1961, and no, they were not part of Zanzibar, they were a British colony. Yes, Kenya did not become an officially recognized Republic by the world until December 12, 1964.

The British granted Kenya's independence on December 12th 1963, at which time they already had had adequate time to write their constitution and formulate their plans as what direction they would take. On that same date,( December 12th 1963) the Republic of Kenya Constitution was ratified and enacted.
