Mayor Thompson Could Mean "Fear of Going Out at Night" (Giuliani), "Detroit" (Bloomberg)

rudysmiles.jpgThe Bloomberg-Giuliani victory tour of friendly city territories began with a bang in Borough Park, where the former Mayor told the annual Legislative Breakfast of the local Jewish Community Council that if Bill Thompson were elected, the city "could very easily be taken back to the way it was with the wrong political leadership" -- that is, back to "the fear of going out at night and walking the streets."

The Thompson campaign and Public Advocate candidate Bill de Blasio blasted Giuliani's remarks, with de Blasio calling on Bloomberg to disavow the former Mayor's "veiled race baiting." Questioned about Giuliani's speech afterward, Bloomberg said, "Detroit went from a great city with lots of good paying jobs to a city that's basically holding on for dear life." Detroit, cynical readers may note, has had black mayors since 1974.

"This event," reports Yeshiva World News, "is always a valuable outlet for the survivors whose daily personal challenges as senior citizens are compounded by the horrific memories they have been forced to carry throughout the years," referring, presumably, to the Holocaust rather than to New York before Giuliani.

Joe Nardiello says:

Ah, politicians. How can DeBlasio's hand-picked successor and fellow Working Family party guy in Brad Lander - sit at the Right Hand of Rudy, then, at this very same event? Lander would be DeBlasio's "3rd term" so.. what happened to support for Bill Thompson -- are we playing 2 ends against the middle again in Borough Park? PS - How's the investigation going for who placed & paid for the Der Blatt article in Lander's camp as reported, by the way in Brooklyn that called gays "abominations".

It may be time to vote differently in Brooklyn -- because its the Republican candidate that's INDEPENDENT. In Brooklyn the tables are turned upside down by a man that's boldly stepped forward to battle every politician, both in the GOP and Dem side.

The Republican is a Village Voice reader. It's the Republican that's a member of the Park Slope Food Coop for 5 years, is not a career track politician, is a supporting member of the NAACP Brooklyn chapter. 25 years in business and for 2 mayors in emphasizing NYC's cultural attractions citywide. You want change, locally -- start supporting a man over the Status Quo Machine Politicians that pay more games, than attention to our residents.

I grew up on the edge of Boro Park. When Bloomberg out-Rudy-ed Rudy in quickly mentioning Sept.11 during the recent (only) debate with Thompson, I knew it was going to get disgusting. And cynical: if Bloomberg is trotting Rudy G. as supporter, he is saying that he assumes people of color are not going to vote for him anyway and he must be scared.
Can a guy who paid so much in advertising and even some bullying to get term limits overthrown by City Council lose? I voted already. Not for Bloomberg.

Gool-inani will be out on Staten Island,on Halloween, where he has appeal with the many conservatives a.k.a. 'not in my backyard ' mid-island and south shore voters- but he should be ashamed to call himself a republican after all, Bloomberg has only raised taxes since 2002!

Right now people have to fear getting tickets and silly summonses more than being mugged. First it's crime now it's a police state. I will vote for Thompson.

Observing 2 white leaders partnering to play the 'race card' is no surprise..It is revealing how easy it is for white folks like Bloomberg & Rudy G to scapegoat Black Americans and venues like Detroit..

SO much for United We Stand" bullshit mantra..I guess I will not get invited to the passover seder this year... Damn it I like bagels too.....
