New MTA Chairman Jay Walder is
coming to Cortlandt Street this afternoon, not to pay homage to the
late Sy Syms, but to
re-open the Cortlandt Street R and W train station. The station was
closed for renovations four years ago and was scheduled to be reopened on February 6, 2006 but, well, you know. (The 1 and 9 station on Cortlandt Street was rendered inoperable by the attacks and
demolished.) The new R/W station will open at 3 p.m. and will only accept northbound service; southbound service is expected in 2011 but, well, you know.
