DATE: Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, 6:14 p.m.
LOCATION: Boyland Avenue & Pitkin Avenue, Brooklyn.

Just a block from a police precinct, a 24-year-old man was shot fatally in the chest at the above intersection Monday evening, the police say. He was declared dead at the scene. Two men were arrested.

The Daily News reports that police were able to make quick arrests in the case because they saw the gunmen dump their weapons just before they entered the 73rd Precinct station house to report the shooting!

The alleged shooters, whose names have yet to be released, leaped out of a car and chased down Bishawn Turner, firing 5 rounds at him, striking him once in the head. The News reports the shooting may have been a gang retaliation for a prior shooting.

If you know anything about this case, drop us a line at grayman@villagevoice.com.

My sympathy goes out to his family . I remember our freshman year in Park West . He was so humorous and full of life . He was an extremely caring individual whose presence will be missed . This is a real heartfelt story , I can only imagine how heavy hearted and mournful his family is at the moment . Rest In Peace Bishawn !! Astagfurallah

I met Bishawn on 09/17/09, he noted he intended to turn his life around. He sought counseling and wanted to find a job. This young man may have had a past, but he was not givrn a chance. I hope his killers meet the same fate as he did.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I am Bishawns aunt. His deceased father only sister. Bishawn is missed already. He has been hanging with me these last couple of months. I am over 20 years his senior but still have a lot of life. I was introducing him to a different environment. We had a blast. He was my date when I did not feel like being bothered with others. On behalf of the family we thank you for all your condolences. He was very funny, mannerable, good looking, clean and well dressed. God had a bigger plan.

Rest in peace my sweet Prince.

Antonia aka Kandace from the 10 says:

I first met Bishawn the summer before I went to I.S. 298. I was at the store, he tried to hook me up with his friend, but I wasn't interested. I didn't see B.I again until summer was over and I started a new school, the first person I saw in my new class was Bishawn. I sat next to him and the jokes started from there. We bickered back and forth and cracked jokes on each other but it never got out too of hand.

Bishawn was just a naturally comedic person, even when he wasn't trying to be. You could be mad at him, but still laugh at his jokes. I used to call him TeddyGram in school because he reminded me of a chocolate Teddy Gram. It wasn't ever meant in disrespect.

Sometimes I would stand outside by his building by myself and smoke cigarettes(I live in the next building) He would always come and ask me if I was o.k or why was I looking sad or angry or to tell me I should quit the "cancer sticks"
About 2 weeks before he passed, he was telling me about how I should quit cigarettes(as usual), then he randomly told me that he was "sorry about cracking jokes on me in school and that he wish he had been more nice to me back in the days" I jokingly asked him " Brotha, are you sure you aren't sick or your life is flashing before your eyes because this apology is random, and what are you apologizing to me for, thats old news"
He said "He just felt like it" I found that real strange coming from him, but I shrugged it off.

The next thing I know I see his body laying in the damn street, but didn't know it was him until someone from Howard told me. That hurt so much. I thought about what he told me before he passed and it really made me think and cry. We were associates through school and neighborhood but still he did not deserve that and he really was trying to do better and not be like the rest of lames in the hood who dont want to make nothing of their lives. I know this was a long page, but I will really miss him and wish he had more time on this Earth. Long Live Bishawn!!!

To Teddy Gram

You are in a place now where there are no more tears, no more heart no more pain,
Where you can now watch over your loved ones that miss you
Where all the angels know your name.

-Antonia.
