Latest Death Threat Against New York Official: Jack Geoghan vs. Andrew Cuomo

By Roy Edroso, Thursday, Dec. 17 2009 @ 10:17AM

Categories: Crime, Featured
andycuomolefty.jpgJust a few days back cops arrested a man who allegedly phoned death threats to Mayor Bloomberg and Ray Kelly. Now 45-year-old Jack Geoghan of Inter County Appraisers of Bayport, New York, is accused of leaving a message at the Attorney General's office promising, "If that fucker Andrew Cuomo is on the Long Island Expressway and his head is blown off with a 30.06, you'll know who did it." Police did not take this as a crimestoppers tip, and hauled Geoghan in. He is charged with terroristic threats and aggravated harassment.

His father tells the Post that his son doesn't even own a gun, which is a relief...

The father also says that as a real-estate appraiser, Geoghan has been annoyed by Cuomo's attempts to regulate that industry, such as the establishment of a Home Valuation Code of Conduct, which requires appraisal fees be split between appraisers and appraisal management companies, which other critics have denounced, albeit less homicidally, as an undue financial hardship on appraisers. You can sign a petition against it here.

Geoghan is also accused of sending a menacing e-mail to the Attorney General's web site. His held on $500 million [!] bail.

Bob Dixon says:

Mr Geoghan took it a little too far, but if you understand the affect the HVCC has had on many appraisers, mortgage originators and real estate sales people, it isn't surprising at all. This man (Cuomo) has single handedly erased years of hard work and many people's means of supporting their families. The work has been taken away by, government mandate, from small middle class business people and handed to large AMC's who have no motivation to assign appraisals to the most qualified, but only to those who will do it for the cheapest. The small local, appraisal company is pushed out and the public is given an inferior valuation from a cut rate person from out the area. The little guy loses again!!! When will someone stand up for us? IT REALLY STINKS!

Michael Goad says:

The HVCC that Mr. Cuomo statred on May 1st 2009 has put more than alot of appraisers out of business. It has put all of us out of busniess. I wonder what his take is $$$$. The lenders that used my office prior to HVCC told me the appraisal fees have gone up to $600.00. I was charging $375.00 and now I get $220.00 for that same appraisal. The AMCs get the rest, not a bad payday for doing nothing and having no one to answer to. The appraisers are not the problem. Punish the real villains. OH I forgot they make the rules.

To Bob and Michael,

Both of you need to get a life. The appraiser who made these death threats is not a hero. He is a criminal and he deserves punishment to the fullest extent of the law. I am no fan of Andrew Cuomo but there is no excuse for threatening another person's life. And.... if your past business model no longer works post HVCC, then just move on. Stuff happens.Maybe you shouldn't have gotten all your orders from mortgage brokers. Ever hear of the concept of diversification? Both of you should be punished for heralding this criminal.
You set a very poor example for the appraisal industry.

Appraiser Inactive says:

Jack if I had $50,000 I'd bail you out. Unfortunately I'm an appraiser too so I don't have 5 cents to spare thanks to shit bag Cuomo. He's pissed off alot of people including borrowers, mortgage bankers, appraisers, and Realtors. Come to think of it who has he not pissed off? So much for elected office.

Karma has a cruel way of stomping our asses if we've unjustly harmed others. Andy, FNMA, & Freddie Mac will likely see this soon enough.

Family of Jack says:

Cuoma has obviously created HVCC for some reason. Its not like appraisal fees were outrageous and needed to be regulated, in fact there more expensive now. There must be something in it for him. and "Iyamwhoyam" I am not sure what you do for a living but if your current business is doing well enough for you to live and provide for your family why should you have to diversify? To avoid being ripped of your life's work? I am not sure what you do, but maybe not everyone has the time to focus there efforts on more then one area. Obviously Jack was a hard working man and should not have made that threat, but you have to admit destroying an industry of hard working middle class in this economy is not what we need. Just another example for why big government is a bad thing.

iyam - who called Geoghan a hero? Bob stated he went to far, Mike didn't mention him at all.

IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS THREAT WAS MADE, THEN YOU DON'T KNOW ENOUGH TO COMMENT ON IT. ANDY IS A SLEEZEBALL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT. JACK JUST PUT HIMSELF UP TO THE FOREFRONT OF WHAT OTHERS SAY UNDER THEIR BREATH. ANDREW CUOMO SHOULD BE PUT IN JAIL FOR WHAT HE DID AT HUD. I MYSELF HAVE VOICED MY OPINION BY POSTING THIS LINK: WWW.ANDREWCOUMO.COM IF YOU READ THE ARTICLE YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND.

"...the establishment of a Home Valuation Code of Conduct, which requires appraisal fees be split between appraisers and appraisal management companies..."

The HVCC in NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM "requires fees be split between appraisers and appraisal management companies". The WHOLE "official" point of the HVCC is "attempt" to make sure there is someone between between appraiser and lender to avoid influenced values, etc. It DOES NOT and SHOULD NOT discuss fees, as that is none of their business to pass a law to "infringe" upon private businesses fees.

AMC's however DO split the fee but that is NOT a requirement of the HVCC. This fee split by AMC's (unless disclosed on the HUD statement) quite honestly appears to violate RESPA...(I'm just sayin!!!)

It appears there are alot of misconceptions out there about the HVCC and the apprasial industry and they ALWAYS seem to fall in the favor of AMC's.

By the way seeing appraisers and lenders fall under MORE regulation, WHO IS REGULATING THE AMC's......NO ONE!!!!!!!
