​If you watch Boardwalk Empire you are aware that the Atlantic City of yore was filled with some pretty bizarre attractions (exhibits displaying babies in incubators, Paz de la Huerta). Well, now one attraction that originated in the 1920s is set for a return, and is making animal activists angry. If the Steel Pier's owners get their way, the "diving horse" act -- which is exactly what it sounds like -- will be on view by the time people flock back to the beach.

​Watch out, Vegas, Atlantic City might get all done up like a fresh-faced showgirl (oxymoron?) if legislatures agree with a proposal to spruce up the still kinda gritty boardwalk-clad gambling city with a state-controlled plan. At a press conference today, Christie stood firmly behind the proposals issued in a report by the New Jersey Gaming, Sports and Entertainment Advisory Commission to add both gaming and non-gaming attractions that will draw a crowd to the South Jersey locale.

​Some people are just not lucky. Not at all. Which is perhaps why they're on the way to Atlantic City -- quite possibly one of the most desolate, soul-sucking places on the planet, regardless of whether you're frequenting one of the fancy new casinos or loitering outside the "We Buy Gold" place(s) -- on a random Thursday. (Or is that just us?)
