Well, here are four words we never thought we would type: Save the G-train?

Brooklyn's straphangers, known to love the looping line as much as they hate it, are now rallying in support of the G: District Leader Lincoln Restler has organized a petition to keep the MTA from cutting off full Church Avenue-to-Queens service. Nearly 1,200 have signed the online petition, which began Sunday. The move comes as communities continue to feel the effect of MTA cuts -- which resulted in the loss of two subway lines, 36 bus routes, and 570 bus stops in the last several years.

Last night's attack in Sunset Park doesn't fit the pattern attributed to these suspects.
In the last few days there have been two sexual assaults in south Brooklyn, one in Windsor Terrace and the other in Sunset Park. The attack in Windsor Terrace, in which a young woman was groped from behind on Vanderbilt Street, is definitely the work of one of the suspects in string of recent assaults in the area, according to police. But last night's crime on 36th Street and Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park -- another woman grabbed from behind while walking -- isn't thought to be part of the pattern.

A DCPI detective confirmed that the incident fit the pattern of the other attacks. This one is the 12th in the series, which includes one rape and is thought to be the work of more than one suspect.

Police sketches of the suspect(s)
It's been about seven months since the now-infamous south Brooklyn sex attacks began, and the NYPD still hasn't been able to finger a suspect. The police have ramped up their response after 11 crimes, but not without problems; women in the neighborhoods affected have begun to accuse police of handling this in a less than sensitive manner. Now, a petition demanding "sensitivity training" for cops has been launched. As of right now it has about 3,000 signatures and it will be presented to NYPD representatives in a meeting tonight.

krav maga.jpg
Not to be alarmist, but there is a serial sexual assailant on the loose in Brooklyn. We've written about him here before, but he's still at large; he's suspected of one rape and five attempted rapes along Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park, on 16th Street in Park Slope, and in Bay Ridge. The most recent attack was just a couple of weeks ago.

Now, a new petition is asking that free self-defense classes be offered to women in the area. Here's an excerpt from a letter by the author of the petition, a Park Slope resident, to Community Board 7 and Councilwoman Sara Gonzalez:

Scumbag armed mugger in Brooklyn
Cops believe the same armed mugger struck twice in Brooklyn in the early morning hours last Saturday, March 19. They don't have him, but they finally released what they say are photos of him. At 3:30 that morning, the robber came up to a 63-year-old at a bus stop near Sullivan and Van Brunt Streets in Red Hook, showed a gun, demanded money, took it and fled in a dark-colored SUV. At about 5 a.m., he walked up to a couple in their 30s in Windsor Terrace and demanded money. He smashed the woman in the face with his gun, took her purse, and fled in a dark-colored SUV.

Cops say he's 6-2 to 6-4, 220 pounds. Somebody catch this scumbag, please. Tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or submit tips at nypdcrimestoppers.com or text info to 274637 (CRIMES), entering TIP577.
